Stanleys Auto Center

We were in Millinocket for a fall weekend of hiking etc. when our car quit in Baxter State Park. Timing chain (newer chain/belt still under warranty Hyundai!!!! - they ultimately reimbursed me $229. for the cost of the chain - but not the entire top end of the engine that it destroyed). The tow driver recommended we take the car an extra 20 miles to Mr. Stanley rather then some smaller local shops.  We are so glad he did.  I know a bit about cars and about running a business. I was half expecting to be preyed on - or an attempt at least - since we were 500 miles from home and helpless and a bit desperate to get home.  But instead I found the Stanley's 100% honest, caring efficient and professional.  They kept me involved through the entire process (we considered some short cuts to save money or time - but with the information and my own experience - chose not to cut corners each step-  in diagnosing, repairing and ultimately rebuilding.  It is a very very busy shop - you know when all the locals come here it means something - but he still made room for us, fit us in and dealt with the challenges of no local suppliers for Hyundai parts in the north woods.   They worked on the car for nearly five days. He actually brought in an unscheduled mechanic in on Saturday to help us get done and on the way home.  The repair job was very well done - no problems at all.  I figure the price to be about 70% of what I would have paid here in my own shop in Pennsylvania.  The people were all nice to us - and you got to love that real old time Maine accents of the folks up there!  Five stars all the way.
