"Harvey and his team were professional and courteous. My wife and I were very satisfied with the completed work on the interior. We had originally planned on doing the exterior of the house first but had to change our plans. Harvey was accommodating and offered suggestions. Some I took, some I didn't. We are already discussing the projects for this coming summer. He doesn't know it but I have a couple new ideas I may implement. I have no doubt that they will do as an outstanding job on the exterior as they did inside. It looks like a new home."

"Sentri Homes provided the most professional flooring service I’ve ever had. The LVP installation turned out absolutely beautiful, and I was amazed at how quickly everything was completed without sacrificing quality. The crew was fast, accurate, and extremely detail-oriented from start to finish. Everything was installed cleanly, precisely, and with real craftsmanship. The entire process was smooth, efficient, and far beyond what I expected. I would absolutely recommend Sentri Homes to anyone needing flooring installed."

"We originally met Richard last summer when we were considering buying a house that needed an extreme amount of renovation. I saw his excellent ratings on Angie's List and called him right away (before we put in an offer).  He met us early on a Sunday morning, walked through the house and gave us his estimates on what it would take to get the house to a livable level. After that walk-through we decided that this house was going to take too much work, and had a few hazards that were unacceptable to us. We decided to put off the house hunting a few months.

Fast-forward to January, 2012. We find another fixer-upper home, and this time know we are putting in an offer. We need a hard copy estimate for our 203K Renovation Loan. Richard again takes time out of his busy schedule, meets us over his lunch hour to walk through and around the home, checking electricity, furnace, plumbing, bathroom/kitchen renovation needs, roof (which we did not know was leaking), the cost of repairing the water damage from the leaky roof, and also the garage door and garage guttering. He provided us with a written estimate and we then had good, solid information of what sort of loan we needed to request, and were able to put in an offer that made sense based on the data.

Well, that offer was not accepted; we were disappointed, but knew that  Richard's work had revealed many problems not visible to us, and costly ones at that.  We knew, based on that information, that our offer  was a reasonable offer based on those facts.  It would have been much worse to have moved ahead only to have had so many problems exposed during the inspection.   So, we moved on to look at yet another house.  Again, Richard took time on a day of my request to come do a walk around outside of the house to survey what would need to be done on the exterior with the paint, gutters, eaves, and window frames. He gave us an estimate of what needed to be done and told us what could wait, and what needed to be done immediately. Based on Richard's estimate, we were able to put an intelligent offer on this third home, feeling confident about the quality of the home, the amount of money we needed to set aside for our improvements, and the priority of the improvements. Ultimately, we were able to come to terms with these sellers, and we have just signed our purchase agreement!

After looking at this home's exterior, Richard offered to come back to walk around the inside during  the inspection so he could get a solid idea of the hardwood floor refinishing we asked him to do, along with some minor kitchen remodeling we want done before we move in.

Richard Froais of NE Renovations is quite a guy, and we really appreciate his reassuring manner and honest, kind, timely and informative responses. I can be a bit of a nervous Nellie, and he has been so patient and caring with his work with us. His customer service is the best I've seen!"

"The technician did an excellent job. It did take a while to get the repair finished, but that was due to Bertazzoni delivering the parts. I have had multiple problems with this particular appliance. My range now works better than it did when new, but I have a feeling that even if I have continuing problems with it, American Home Shield will just repair rather than replace due to the cost of the range. By the way, I'm not exactly sure of the date of the repair."

"I had a bad contractor who gutted my house and left it. I called E&L and they came in and rescued the house. They were outstanding. They were quick, professional, and I would highly recommend them. They were trustworthy and I would definitely hire them again."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

How long it takes to build a log cabin depends on a variety of factors, including its size and design, and whether or not you have to clear the land. Construction can take a few weeks for a prefab log cabin on an established site, but up to eight or nine months for a custom cabin on undeveloped land. In comparison, the timeline to build a house is typically four to 12 months.

The average cost to renovate or remodel a home is $52,300, with most projects ranging from $19,500 to over $88,400. However, costs can vary significantly, from as low as $3,000 for a small project to $170,000 or more for a complete home remodel.

Several factors influence the total price, including:

  • Project Scope and Size: The extent of the renovations, whether it's a single room or the entire house.

  • Location: Geographic location affects labor and material costs.

  • Materials: The quality of materials chosen.

  • Room Type: Kitchen remodels ($14,500 - $70,000+) are generally more expensive than bedroom remodels ($1,500 - $5,500).

  • Other Factors: The time of year, complexity of the work, and any additions or expansions.

On a per-square-foot basis, you can expect to pay between $15 and $60 for standard projects and up to $150 for luxury renovations.

Examples of specific project costs include:

  • Basement remodel: ~$20,200

  • Garage remodel: ~$27,900

  • Loft conversion: ~$20,200

  • Disability accommodation remodel: ~$4,300

  • Major home repairs: ~$11,700

If you are financing the project, note that some loan programs, like the FHA 203(k), may require a minimum project cost (e.g., $5,000) and will necessitate a home appraisal and professional cost estimates. Using a home renovation cost estimator can also help you budget for your project.

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

No, a structural engineer is not the same as a builder. A structural engineer is an expert in all things related to the structural integrity of a building. The structural engineer is responsible for calculating the correct materials in terms of load-bearing capacity and overall structural safety. Structural engineers do not perform the actual building of the house or other structures. Rather, the builder executes the plans and designs specified by the structural engineer.

Custom homes can take an average of 18 months to build, mainly due to the lengthy design process, and most projects take somewhere between 12 and 24 months. When you work with the right custom home builders near you, they can help you map the road ahead and understand what can speed up or delay the timeline. Choosing locally available materials, for example, can speed things up without losing that customized touch.
