I found the staff and Dr. Pinales are way above excellent. They are all professional, and caring not just treating my cats as and quot;animal'sand quot;. They supported me when we had to put down my and quot;Sissybearand quot;, My heart was breaking and the staff was there to comfort me and allowed me to take my time...plus the sympathy card that I got from them was very special. I've never had issues where I couldn't get my and quot;kidsand quot; in when they were sick.
I would just say that of all the Vet's that I have taken my cats and dogs too, the Animal Hospital of Houlton. THEY ARE GREAT PEOPLE!!!!

I took my dog to be spayed. As an additional service, I asked that she have 2 of her baby teeth pulled while they had her under anesthesia. There was an additional fee for that service, per tooth. However, when I arrived to pick her up they had not performed the extractions. I was going to have to pay to have her put to sleep again to have them pulled. I was not pleased. Additionally, while Dr. Pinelas and her staff are all very friendly, Dr. Pinelas is not very professional. I understand it is a small town and maybe I am expecting too much, but it would have been nice if they had shown more professionalism. The surgery site healed well with no complications. The staff was friendly when I returned to have the stitches removed.

My first occasion to meet Dr. Pinales was one Saturday morning. That morning my dog either had a seizure or fainted. When I woke up, I noticed he was wheezing and coughing a lot, as well as panting and sticking his tongue out constantly. Of course, as any other person that loves their pet, I was very concerned -- especially being a Saturday, in a small town, it was quite likely the animal hospital was closed.I called the number for the animal hospital and after six or so rings, a woman answered with 'Animal Hospital of Houlton' (another vet I called was not open -- I left a message, but no one ever returned my call). I explained to Dr. Pinales, what had happened and that I wanted to bring him in to be examined. That's when she told me she was currently doing a rabies clinic in another town and would not be available until after that ended, around 12:30 PM. She told me she would be happy to see him after that if I wanted to bring him in for the exam. I would have expected her to recommend that he be seen, but she didn't do that. Upon arriving at the hospital, I saw another pet owner was there and Dr. Pinales was examining his pet at the time. No one greeted me at the desk, the lights were not on. She was there alone, but did eventually stick her head out and tell me she would be with me in a moment. She seemed like a nice woman, but lacked the refined look or mannerisms one would expect from a veterinarian. She was very descriptive in what she thought was wrong with my dog, explaining things in a manner I could understand, not medical jargon. However, while I feel her knowledge in the area was not her strong point, she did seem to know enough to give my dog the proper care at that time. I was instructed to give him a diuretic medication 3 times a day and to make sure he always had fresh water. I followed that regimen for 10 days, as instructed. I started noticing improvement with the second day after treatment began. Dr. Pinales called one week after seeing the dog to check on his condition. This was something new to me, but was really appreciated. I would recommend this professional to a friend, and I will definitely be going back to her with future problems I may have with my pets.

I have always had a good experience with Dr. Pinales and her staff. I tell all my friends if they need a vet.
