When Ken came to my house to provide an estimate he looked at my existing condition and offered alternatives that I could perform myself in lieu of installing a heat pump. He admitted that he was not a good salesman. I appreciated his honesty and decided to have him install a heat pump anyway. The installation occurred over two different days since I had electrical work that Ken could not do himself and had to sub out. Since the subcontractor ended up doing the work far less than Ken had quoted, he adjusted the bill down. I believe Ken to be an honest businessman.
So far the heat pump is working well as a cooling unit. I am satisfied with it's performance so far. I can only assume that it will function as well in the heating mode. I'll find out in a month or two.
I called K&J in Gray. He very promptly returned my call. A couple hours later he was at my house. He tightened the gasket and stopped most of the leak (something the other company should have done but didn't). The next morning he showed up as promised, repaired my furnace and charged about half what the other company would have charged. He was very professional, polite and knew what he was talking about. I recommend K&J highly. It is almost time to replace my aging burner and I won't hesitate to use this company. I wish I had found them sooneer!
I'm not giving this business an "F" because they were not rude to me or steal from me. They just provided very bad service.
The representative from K&J responded:
Jan,
I do not blame you in any
way. I would do the same thing as you. If any consolation, the salesman
who handled this order has been fired.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Ken

"I, as the owner of K&J Heating, take full responsibility for this failed transaction. On 09.07 the Member sent me a message asking about an actual proposal. I was away on vacation, but I responded with the actual cost in an email. I stated that I could send an actual proposal when I returned to the office. I almost always include the statement the "an actual proposal/ quote can be prepared if you decide to move forward with this project", I failed to include this line. On 9.24 The Member emailed asking a question about the offered equipment and about the proposal. I had assumed that the Member was not interested before this date as I had not heard from her. I should have checked in with the Member to verify instead of assuming. The Member gave the go ahead for me to draw up a proposal on 09.24. I sent the Member the proposal on 10.03 and on 10.05 the Member gave the go ahead. I ordered the stove from my supplier. On 10.22 I checked with my supplier to find out where the stove is. I was informed that the order was not in the system any longer. I re-ordered the stove. I then informed the Member of what had happened. On 11.19 The Member emailed and cancelled her order as she was not happy with the level of customer service she had received. I completely agree with the Member's decision. I personally should have stayed on top of the status of the order. I contacted my supplier to cancel the order and to ask where the stove was. On 11.19 I received a call from the Stove manufacturers Representative. He wanted to apologize and stated he would find out why the stove still hadn't shipped. He also asked if he could have the customers contact info so he could explain that his company failed to provide the equipment. I stated that it would not be necessary as I was accepting full blame. He called back on 11.20 and explained that he could not find any reason for the delay in shipping the equipment. With another apology he again asked for the customers contact info in the hopes that he could make things right. Again I declined. This entire failure is my responsibility and as much as I am sorry for disappointing the Member, I have already instituted an new follow up procedure at our company so that this does not occur ever again. Member, I offer my humblest apologies. Ken"
In February, I called to scheduled a cleaning and they showed up promptly at the time we agreed upon. Before the cleaning they took the time to go through the parts of the system with me, give me an overview of how the system works and answer any questions I had.
A month later my furnace started acting up and would automatically kick off. I had to reset it in the morning when I got up and I called K&J that evening and left a message to explain what was happening. (They do offer 24 hour emergency service, but I didn't feel I needed that) They gave me a call back first thing the next morning and said he would be by around 10am.
While at work, they called me and said that they had spent 3 hours tearing down my furnace and checking everything over and didn't find anything wrong. He explained that they installed a digital modular that would be able to record the last 15 cycles in case this happens again they could track it. They did not charge for the 3 hours of labor or the modular that was installed. These guys are top rate and I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for honest people who will treat you fairly.
