Interacted very well with both cat and owner. Good communication. Discussed treatment options. Answered all questions. Cat had previously been found to be allergic to med that would combat symptoms of hyperthyroidism.(the last vet did not even diagnose this condition. these vets found it immediately upon exam.) Formulated a new treatment plan which was to offer food more often to accommodate the increased metabolism rate, try a high blood pressure med for a wk and report results.
A positive response would be that the cat would exhibit increased activity and appetite, and decreased heart rate. And, of course, to call if there were any problems.
The appt had been made that a.m. for the last slot of the day-5:30pm. And yet, the vet gave ample time for an unrushed and attentive visit. We have had several cats and tried several veterinary clinics over the years. We are most pleased with Falmouth. They go beyond expectations!
I have a and quot;problem dogand quot; with a peculiar autoimmune medical history and Dr. Lyons was the first vet I met who was immediately, 100% behind the fact he couldn't be vaccinated, he shouldn't take NSAIDs and was just generally and quot;less is moreand quot; with his care. She was willing to do a very reduced drug protocol when I finally bit the bullet and got him neutered. It was the first time he was put under since a major autoimmune episode as a puppy and I was nervous. She was wonderful. He's since gone back under for a dental extraction and I was barely nervous at all because I knew he was in good hands.
Today, my young b**** went in for her spay and I was only nervous about her recovery, not the surgery itself. We'd been working on an issue with her liver and it hadn't been resolved but we'd narrowed down what we believed it was and she was doing very well. She did a laparoscopic ovariectomy and took a liver biopsy. She's storing the biopsy sample in case we need it, but we're not doing it right away because we're already treating the suspected cause.
You'll notice I say and quot;weand quot; because I really feel that I am part of the process. Also, when I was stressed out and we were still unclear about what was wrong with my girl, she expressed concern for my mental state (I was exhausted) and told me to and quot;Stop reading!and quot; (because she knows I can go overboard with research and we all know that Google always tells you that your pet is dying...) She encourages my involvement, research (within reason) and respects my choices.
Overall, this vet practice is excellent. The vets are responsive, the techs and office staff are wonderful. They will work hard to try to figure out what is wrong when your pet has a mystery ailment, but they won't make you panic or immediately jump to the most expensive diagnostics. They support minimal/holistic care options like limited vaccination, adult spay over juvenile spay, supplementation in place of medicine (when feasible), etc. They are up to date with their knowledge, techniques, and equipment.
