He got a portion of the money up front and had no credit (ie he had to have money up front before buying supplies). He started by removing the 2 trees and excavating. He then had 2 men who had NEVER built a rock wall work on it completely unsupervised. The wall was terrible, it feel down after one mild winter and if any one leaned on it. He was coming in to rebuild part of it and actually ripped up the existing terrible wall, dumped crushed rock on an existing 150 yr old rock wall and dug deeper holes. After 1.5 years of him doing sporadic work, subcontracting to incompetent workers, and taking my money, I gave him an ultimatum. He told me he would "be done when he was done". I fired him. At that point, I had a backyard that was a wreck--piles of dirt and rocks everywhere with NO portion of the job done. He agreed to repay a portion of the money, but of course I haven't and won't see any of that! He does shoddy work, doesn't keep his word, and is incredibly irresponsible. RUN away fast if you hear of James Lagasse!
