As stated above, he took off with our $400 and has not returned to do the job he said he would do. He also did a sloppy job on another neighbor's roof. While the job he did on his friend's roof seem adequate, it's definitely buyer beware when it comes to Mr. Hartley. He is friendly and draws you in very easily. It's easy to see how people can trust him, but then he takes that trust and tramples all over it. Thank goodness we didn't give him any more than $400 and shame on me for letting him leave with our money without doing the work.
Description of Work: We live in Connecticut but he came down from Massachusetts to help our next door neighbor who is friends with this contractor. they hired him to replace their roof and replace their porch. Just as an aside, he also does work in Maine. He was given $400 cash to paint the back of a carriage house and absconded with the money. He was given the money while replacing the neighbor's roof. Another neighbor also enlisted him to do their roof for $2,000. He said he was leaving to take care of another job in Massachusetts. We insisted that he at least do the other neighbor's roof, which he did but he did a sloppy job. He said he would be back in three weeks to paint our carriage house. After numerous phone calls and emails and texts, which he has chosen to ignore, we have chalked this up to a learning experience and highly suggest if anyone hires this clown, that they make sure he does the work first and pay him after the job has been done and thoroughly inspected. We did managed to get a hold of him once to ask him when he planned on coming and that he needed to redo the sloppy work on the other neighbor's roof. He stated he would return after he completed the Massachusetts job, which he never did. He does many types of home improvement work such as roofs, decks, painting garages, tree trimming, etc.
