They cut the dormer trim boards incorrectly and wasted some very expensive lumber, leaving that job unfinished and in the process, the owner (who was helping his carpenter), cut several clapboards incorrectly and simply threw them on the scrap pile. They never finished that part of the job (thankfully) and I have to go back and tear out some of their work and redo it properly. I also asked them to prime the raw ends of the freshly cut clapboards where they butted up to the shingle roof. I supplied primer & brushes. They never used them & nailed the boards up raw. I supplied pre-primed lumber & siding for this part of the work. Secondly, they were to strip and re-shingle a small porch roof. I supplied all materials (again). They showed up late on the 1st day without any tools & asked if they could use some of mine rather than push the job back. They had to work after dark to get the 1st days work completed and still installed the materials incorrectly so I had to run out the next morning & buy more materials. They could not follow clear, simple directions & didn't know what the building code required for roofing & didn't care what the manufacturer wanted to guarantee the roof products. They did not know what was required for proper installation methods. Additionally, they only had one experienced roofer on the job out of 5 men and left much of the work to the inexperienced brother of the owner. They showed up after 10:00 AM on the 2nd day & started working about 11:00 AM, rushing to finish & get to the next job. They had no idea what metal flashing was or how to install it, they did not know how to install rubber underlayment or ice & water shield properly, which I had to fix the 2nd morning before they got there, they broke & split trim boards to force shingles behind them, they did not know how to shingle roof valleys so now, I have to go back & rip out defective work & redo it. They never looked to see that the lumber yard had delivered mixed colors of shingles and did 3/4 of the roof before they realized that the porch roof did not match the main roof of the house that I did myself, they left debris and old metal behind that they were supposed to remove and they never cleaned up the roof nails or scrap metal. The owner claimed that he had no idea that I wanted vents put in the roof, even though they were sitting in plain sight on top of the materials & said he would have to increase the price to install them. In order to install the roofing materials, they had to pull off about 3 rows of clapboards from the front of the house. They claimed that they would be back in 2 days to complete this work & replace them with the new clapboards I purchased for this purpose. It's now been 2 weeks & I don't want them back. I hired them because my neighbor seemed to be having good luck with them but they have run out on him as well, leaving a lot of unfinished work.
