Once again a great experience. Chris and his crew created a fantastic patio complete with lights and planter under our deck. It looks fantastic. They were efficient, prompt and incredibly neat. I would recommend them to anyone for this type of work. Our next job for them is lawn care.

While the end result is absolutely beautiful and enhances our front yard immensely, the amount of time, effort, and communication we had to expend to get what we wanted was not worth what we paid. 1. One wall had to be completely redone due to a 13" alignment issue and a 3/4" tilt. They used cement under one side to make the cap stones look level. It took 4 hours to convince them to fix it, and we heard many ?reasons? why it was like that from design problems with the Keystone blocks to a ?pro? way to make the wall better. We were told our family and friends would think the repair looks funny, even though the end result was a perfectly straight and level wall. We found out at the end of the job that they had never worked with the Keystone materials before. 2. During removal of the old retaining walls they damaged the corner of the house and tried to charge us $400 to fix it. They also left a large gap against between the house and the new wall and wanted to charge to fix it. 3. When we saw the crew was laying the blocks right next to the soil, we had to tell them to backfill the wall with gravel and put a perfed drainage pipe behind the wall for runoff--requirements that are included in Keystone?s installation instructions. 4. Our new dry well backs up after about 4 minutes of rain and our garage has flooded twice since completion. They claimed there is nothing that could help except a sump in the garage. We originally asked for a 200 gallon tank to be installed, but somehow this changed while my husband was on a trip. When we asked them to come back out and reevaluate the dry well, we were told that they had ?fulfilled? the contract,? even though the contract states that the dry well will ?contain all surface runoff.? 5. They didn?t seal the wall edges to the house, so water still runs into the driveway. We had to redo the drainage around the tops of the walls to redirect water from the driveway. 6. They left so much clay on the front yard and patio that water pooled and ran into the driveway and we couldn?t re-lay our patio until we had the clay removed. 7. An angled stairway was discussed in the first meeting, but either our request was not noted or it was forgotten. When the stairs were built in their original position, it took multiple discussions to get it changed. We had very high hopes when we began our job with TGM due to the reviews on Angie?s List and ServiceMagic, and our initial meetings with John and Chris. This experience, however, was very disappointing. The fact that they tried to negotiate with us to accept poor workmanship, then complained when we didn?t accept it does not represent good business practices and we are not inclined to recommend them to anyone. The state of Maryland is taking them to court for "Fail to perform Contract" and "Acting as Contractor without a License" (4C00292513)
Response from TGM INC
"Their remarks to Angie's List about my company are completely false and inaccurate. From the beginning of the initial consult, the member explained to us that he has only had two contractors perform work for him and had nothing but troubles. I explained to him that we always go above and beyond with all of our clients which is why this company has grown as much as it has in such a short time. As I promised, we went above and beyond including performing extra work for them at no additional cost. I challenge anyone to visit the property with me and explain what we did wrong. The fact is that the members are the type of people always looking for some one to do work for free for them. Also, we were never contracted to prevent water from entering the home owner's garage. As a matter of fact, before we began, I explained to the home owner that the only way to prevent water from entering their garage would be to install a sump pump system and he said that he didn't want to do that. I tried to explain to him that a dry well can and will fill up depending on the frequency and amount of rain. It is a small area at the base of their driveway and a dry well could only be so big. His response was that if it didn't work, he would install a drum under ground. I again explained to him that even a drum will fill up if the soil around it is too wet and can't absorb the water and flood his garage. - John Henriques, President"

We were very impressed with TGM. Billy came out to do the estimate. He seemed very knowledgeable about the product and said he would be the foreman supervising the job. After scheduling the service we had to move it back one week, this was not a problem for them. They did the job in two days as promised and were very neat. They filled in the trenches they had dug and reseeded as promised. Billy then took the time to make sure we understood the system throughly. We are considering using them to build a patio.

"THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE RATING. AS THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY, I NOT ONLY USE THIS AS A TOOL TO ENSURE THAT OUR CLIENTS ARE HAPPY, BUT ALSO AS A MEASURE OF HOW OUR EMPLOYEES ARE DOING OUT IN THE FIELD. KEEP IN MIND THAT IF YOU NEED ANYTHING AT ALL, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO CALL. WE ARE NOT THE TYPE OF COMPANY TO LEAVE OUR CLIENTS ONCE A JOB IS COMPLETE."

Great. After their completion of the job, I called about some slight adjustments needed; they were ready to come out right at that moment. I could not be home that day, so even though they said they were jammed the rest of the week, they made time to come out when it fit my schedule. Everyone was extremely pleasant and professional.

I've tried for 2-3 years to find a landscaper here in MD, and didn't have much luck until I found TGM in the Shepherd's Guide. The company knows what it is doing. A certified horticulturist came out to diagnose the infestation that destroyed my lawn. The foremen for each phase of work were courteous, responsive and very pleasant to work with. They left my yard looking immaculate and beautiful. I got multiple quotes on the patio portion of work, and TGM was very competitive. The patio I got looked even better than I hoped it might -- simply beautiful. I can't recommend this company highly enough, and I never met them until I called them up on the phone. In fact, I terminated my other two lawn services (for mowing and for weed and feed) to transfer responsibility to TGM for total lawn care. I don't know what more you could ask for in a service provider. Triple A+ and five-star ratings in my book, and I consider myself to be a fussy buyer.
