We hired this South Carroll Backhoe to seal and put drainage around my basement as it was leaking. The owner, Don, came to the house and gave a price that we both agreed on. When Don went on vacation, he sent his crew to do the job. But then Don had informed me AFTER the crew arrived that me, as a 64 year old man, would have to do all the sealing of the basement and it would be an extra 200.00 dollars a day for his the helpers to do the work. No way was I going to do that so I did the work myself as they were digging. Miss utility came and marked the supply lines that lead to my house under ground and sure enough Dons helpers ignored the markings and cut through the cable and prevented my wife from working as she works from home. They didn't leave enough slack in the power supply line when backfilling the house and tore the electric supply box right off the side of the house. THAT turned into a fire hazard! Don left his inept helpers. He was VERY deceitful and dishonest! DO NOT HIRE!

it was an absolute pleasure dealing with Don and his crew at South Carroll Backhoe. We had a project that was started almost a year ago and required us dealing with various contractors to get the best scenario. The contractor whom we eventually hired because his company came highly recommended by the county, unfortunately did a bang up job. The project was delayed and it ultimately would have cost us twice the sum quoted by them. It was also a stressful experience dealing with them. When we contacted Don he was extremely forthcoming. Amicable and understanding he responded immediately and got the ball rolling. He explained everything in detail to us every step of the way and made us feel comfortable. His professionalism and friendly disposition was reassuring and he completed the job effortlessly and actually also cost us less out of pocket. We highly recommend South Carroll backhoe and would indeed hire them again in future.

Contacted company. Owner (Don Schissler) came to our house that day to investigate problem and propose work with a fee. Upon acceptance of his proposal, we scheduled a service date within one week (work was not an emergency).
Don and his one-man crew arrived when he said. Sod carefully removed, dirt excavated put on tarp and fully replaced upon completion. Hand-dug around a 2and quot; gas line as well as a telephone line without incident. Took great care in insuring lines would NOT be impacted. Kept backhoe on road to avoid disruption to yard.
Entered house from the back in the basement, removing shoes (much to our delight!). He noted that he treats and quot;your home like I would my homeand quot;. He did thoughout the project.
Used a small hand-held jackhammer to cut hole through concrete block. Threaded wire through existing line to hole in front. Pulled old line through, followed by new copper line. Sealed hole on front wall, providing sleave through block to exit of copper line inside house. Fixed hole in inner wall. Installed 1/4 turn on/off valve as well as a pressure reducer valve.
One general contractor from whom I had received a reference told me that Don and quot;caresand quot;. That characteristic very much defined all of his work on this project.

This was not an emergency job, so Don was able to schedule it in advance. He and his two helpers arrived about when he indicated and got right to work. Don was very courteous and took time to answer all my questions, before and during the job. Don took extra pains to dig and tunnel about 3 feet by hand under my sidewalk so that he would not have to destroy my concrete. He is also a real expert with his backhoe. He and his men were able to complete the whole job in just 3 hours, including regrading the terraced hills on my front yard. They cleaned the street and sidewalk as well as possible, and left me with a reasonable amount of additional cleanup to restore the lawn. I am very happy with the work.

The project went as scheduled, there was great communication about the project and no surprises. Don was extremely professional and explained the work well. There was no haggling about the price, the initial quote was fair.

They worked in conjunction with Pipe Rite Plumbing (Dave at Pipe Rite made the interior connections). South Carroll did a great job with little disruption to service. They ran into an issue of how the lines were installed by the builder. They resolved quickly and with minimal disturbance to our yard. We would highly recommend them!!!!! Their pricing was significantly less than other bids

The company did a great job. They started by giving me advice on who to contact in the county to get credit for the sewer connection fee that was already paid by a previous owner. They answered all my questions and more before the project started and always returned my calls quickly. They worked an extra long day to get the job done in one day. Since they finished grading the land in the dark, they came back and did a better job of grading the ground when it was light and after it had settled some.
They did all the work on the job except for the clean out of the septic tank and dry well. Their contractor was there in a timely manner and didn't complain when he had to come back a second time to finish emptying the dry well. Also had one truck load of gravel and two truck loads of dirt delivered.
The company did a great job of quickly resolving a couple problems that came up during the work. I highly recommend them for any excavating or outside drain pipe installations or repairs.

We had three companies quote the job to repair or replace or leaking main water line. We have only been in the house for a couple years, so we didn't know when the last time the water line was replaced. Two of the companies quoted to replace the line. When I asked if repair was an option, the representatives from both companies said it wasn't an option.

Don noted that the line coming into our home was 3/4and quot; copper and the line from the line from our meter was 1and quot;... so there was a reducer in there somewhere! Don gave us two quotes, one for repair, and one to replace, if necessary. (I had checked the permits pulled on the house, and the water line was replaced just prior to our moving in)

Don and Ed arrived on the job on time and as soon as the utility worker completed the markings, they got to work. Don was very careful of our landscaping while digging and took great care when a small shrub needed to be moved. After a bit of digging (machine and hand), he was able to locate a pea-sized hole in our line. He gave me a full update of his findings.

Don and Ed dug under the sidewalk a bit to ensure that the connection to the city water line was secure. Turns out, it was incredibly old and also needed to be replaced. They did wonderful job with all repairs.

After the replacement work was completed, Don went over everything that was repaired and replaced and why it was done. I really appreciated the updates and the work completed was well done.

The area originally dug was refilled and the landscaping was replaced. We could hardly tell that the yard was even disturbed!

Our neighbor also had Don remove some stumps on our property line. It was such a huge project for us using hand tools, but for Don and his incredible backhoe skills, it took less than an hour!

I would HIGHLY recommend this company as I had a wonderful experience!!!

It was excellent. He came to discuss the problem with us, then we paid extra to get a camera diagnostic and the person who did that job was very precise and clear in the explanations on what was the problem. We had 4 estimates and South Carroll Backhoe was least expensive and most reliable. He was very accomodating about our schedule. He came one day to remove the concrete and two days later to excavate and replace the pipe (rain was the delay to skip a day). The inspector came at exactly the time needed. Inspection was passed with no problems. Donald then closed the hole, packed and placed gravel on top so that we can drive on it while waiting to replace the driveway. He was very professional, answered all our questions and he is very friendly.

We contacted three contractors. All came to our house to evaluate the situation but only 2 actually bid the job and were within $90 of each other. South Carroll Backhoe was very responsive when we called with follow up questions. Don Schissler knows his business and is very knowledgable. The job was done within days of signing the contract. There was a minimal amount of distrubance to our front yard as they did the pull through method rather than having to dig up the whole front yard. The plumber left his work space in the basement neat and clean. We will recommend them.

Owner was fantastic!!! I called him late in the week and he reworked his schedule (even working over the weekend) so that he could start my job first thing Monday morning (as I requested). He was very nice, friendly, professional, and accommodating. The job was finished in hours (including obtaining the required permit, followed by a inspection by the county inspector.) The plumber he works with was also fantastic. I highly recommend. As for price, it seemed very high to me. But compared to my other estimates (ranged from $2100 - $2900) Don at South Carroll offered the best price out there.

Don and Ed came out to my house and did a great job. They were confident and explained everything that was going to take place and also took time during the work to explain what they were doing. I had been battling a root problem in my sewer for many years and the roots finally won. South Carroll Backhoe did a great job digging up my yard with minimum damage to the plants and the sewer is draining great now.

The primary operator on my job, Mark, is one with the machine. Skills obviously developed from years of experience. Could probably flip over a dime with the backhoe and not disturb the ground around it. Watch the "minimums". Was quoted a 6 hour minimum for the job to get equipment on site which turned into a 6 hour daily minimum after completion which turned what was thought to be a decent hourly rate into something much different when you have to pay for basically a full day when you really got a hour worked. It seems billing practice changes on the fly. I suggest a written quote.

We had a sewer pipe crack in two places in our front yard. Don was knowledgeable and professional. Although he has a small operation, it is to the benefit of the customer that he has his own backhoe and goes on each job, so that you don't have to pay the plumber's time and then their cost to rent a backhoe and an experienced operator for a day. The cost was well under other estimates that I was getting in the neighborhood of $3000 and $4000. He did a great job and did it in one day. He also found an additional crack near the other cracks that the sewer camera (Roto Rooter) didn't pick up in their inspection of the pipe and repaired that as well for no additional cost. We have a cast iron pipe and everyone wanted to use PVC because its easy to use, but Don (not a believer in replacing parts of a cast iron pipe with PVC because the ferncoats that hold the pipes together, crack and break as well) used cast iron and still charged an unbelievably reasonable price. His work was great. I don't wish this problem on anyone, but I'd refer him again and again!

They came out for an estimate on the same day we called. Their price was about half of what we expected and half of what we were quoted from another reputable company. Their price included a warranty. The workers arrived promptly. They carefully removed the rails from my rotting split rail fence to get the backhoe into the yard. One of the business' owners was on site and working on the job all day. They explained everything from start to finish and were very patient with our many questions. The job was done by mid-afternoon. The hole was refilled and the fence reassembled. Great job. Only downside is that they don't want you to use credit cards, but if that helps keep the prices this reasonable, that's fine.
