Inside & Out is a residential and small commercial interior decorating company based in Westminster, Maryland. We cater to discerning clients who value superb quality, service, unique custom solutions, gracious living, and of course having fun. We offer beautiful transparent solutions for everyday living. Our complete decor solutions are both comfortable and luxurious in design. Owner, Denise Landes brings a considerable amount of knowledge of fine textiles, furniture, antiques, art, and accessories to clients, and an intuitive sense of space, color, proportion, and how things go together. She has experience with a wide range of residential projects and budgets. Denise can take the burden off you, so you can do what you enjoy most. Denise takes a "hands on" role when working on project to insure that all runs smoothly and within a timely schedule. She is passionate that the outcome should be nothing short of fabulous! Her company is involved in all aspects on the design process, interior, exterior and landscaping to insure a cohesive home that is both sophisticated and fresh. Whether designing a home in the country or an apartment in the city, Denise has and keen sense of style and comfort for a family friendly lifestyle. Projects may range from the very traditional to the transitional to the very contemporary. Or, from the very colorful and highly detailed to the more serene, peaceful, mono/achromatic palette. All projects, share certain eclecticism - freely mixing the antique with the contemporary in varying proportions. Ultimately, all receive the same meticulous attention to detail.

Your knowledge of current trends and interior design were essential for preparing our house to go on the market. We love the items you advised us to purchase for the staging, but also to use in our future home. We are enjoying pieces we never would have thought to buy and are so glad to have them! Denise was great! She helped us think through the design for our new home and gave us some great ideas that we implemented right away. Purchased an Angies List Deal for an Interior Design Consultation on May 2nd with Inside and Out. I was contacted by Denise within 48 hours of the purchase with a questionaire to fill out about my projects. We went back and forth when coming up with an appointment date due to both of our busy schedules, however Denise was very flexible considering she lived about 1 hour away.
I received a couple of emails both before and on the appointment date confirming our meeting. On the day of the appointment, Denise was running late due to some traffic so she called me 15mins before our appointment to let me know the situation. To some people that may not be a big deal but to me it is because I am one those people that respects others time and would do the same if I were meeting a client. This to me showed her level of professionalism.
During our meeting, I described the areas that I was thinking of remodeling which included the kitchen, bathroom and master bedroom. I had some ideas as to what I wanted to have done however Denise gave me some ideas that I really never thought of and also let me know certain things that I couldn't do based upon the current configuration. For example, I wanted to replace the door into my bathroom with pocket doors because there was no room between the door and the tub and toilet, however Denise let me know that it may not be possible because my tub was too close to have the room for pocket doors on the left of the door and I had a vent on the right of the door (things that I didn't even think of). Another example was my initial idea of expanding my bathroom into my master bedroom to make the bathroom bigger, however she gave another idea of making that space an extension of my current closet which was really tiny. I didn't even think of that idea but when she mentioned it, that made more sense to me because it would add more value having a bigger closet. Just from a couple of hours meeting and observing what I had so far Denise was able to figure out a little more what my style was because if you were to ask me I probably wouldn't know how to describe my style.
Overall my experience so far with Inside and Out has exceeded my expectations considering this is my first time really hiring a designer for any projects and I look forward to working with Denise in the future.

The appointment was so much fun - we explored options that I would have never be able to put together myself. She provided me with sample materials prior to our meeting and she encouraged my "new" style to evolve - I can't wait until all the work is completed.

I'm very happy with the drapes. Each room has its own style ranging from the least formal (living room) to the most formal (formal living room). A lot of time was spent making sure that the style, material, and quality matched that of the room, which is actually something I never would've thought to do on my own (left to my own devices, they all would've been the same). They sit a bit higher, are a bit more durable, and are more elegant than my previous drapes, so it really changes the overall feel of the room. I'm definitely a fan and will get the rest of the rooms done in the same fashion when time permits.

The Hunter Douglas blinds are a great product - you can tell that they're high quality blinds simply by how heavy they are. They're also very good at blocking out sunlight - not enough to keep your bedroom pitch black, but definitely enough to not worry about glare in your TV room. Finally, the slider is very smooth and easy to manage with the wand, which makes it great for coupling with a sliding door. As long as they match your style and you don't mind paying for quality, I highly recommend these blinds.

This was a pretty clear "A" rating. I hired an Interior Designer because quite frankly, I had no idea what I was doing. Fortunately, Denise was very good at respecting my style preferences while guiding me through each decision. Not only did she provide hints, but she explained the reasons behind going one way or another. I had a pretty large project and was a bit overzealous, so she ended up working A LOT more than she charged for to get everything right. The results are incredible, so there's no question who I'm going to use next time I have a project like this.

The project went Great! My husband and I contacted Denise of "Inside & Out" to help us figure out how to decorate our patio and to landscape a small garden area. Denise is resourceful and has a great sense for high value and good design. We really feel like we get our money's worth. She knows what she is doing and has lots of knowledge to draw on. She located all the materials, products we used, and saved us lots of time shopping. Denise loves helping people. What a bonus to work with her skills and great attitude! We are extremely pleased.

After extensive communication on my wife's notions and expectations of our general design needs and those of mine (which were in conflict), Denise provided us with a number of creative living and dining room designs and configurations that we had not thought of, and that allowed us to step out of our comfort zones and change our perspectives. I think that was due not only to her worthy interior designer skills, but also to the fact that she was an amazing listener to our "have to haves", our perceptions of furniture functionality and traffic flow. Moreover, she asked questions that teased out of us preconceived notions that were limiting our viewpoints. We ended up with a configuration that far surpassed our expectations....and....no more conflict!.
Actually it was difficult to choose a configuration. My wife -a person who has definite ideas about most things- exclaimed "I like EVERY ONE of Denise's ideas!".

So, maybe you think that an interior design company comes in with the latest trendy ideas, works some magic and then similar to TV, ultimately yells, ?Move that sofa"? and you gasp with joy, write a check, and move on. Oh but it is so much more than that. The consummate professional is responsible for assessing the functionality of your space and the surrounding structure. The company must address your needs, those you know of and those you had no idea existed. In the end, the concern should present you with a plan that lays out a style and a plan that is both aesthetically pleasing and within budget. Interior designing is sort of a cross between being an artist, an architect, and an engineer, someone who understands fabric, color and furniture, has an eye for art, can work with testy vendors, figure out electrical loads, and foresee the longevity of granite versus laminate counter tops as it specifically relates to your family. Occasionally, the designer must even be a marital counselor when one partner just cannot fathom the others eccentric vision. Denise Landes of Inside & Out Designed Spaces walked into our lives with all that AND a bag of chips. With the very limited budget we presented to her, Denise created a living room for us that exceeded our wildest expectations. Not only was she professional and knew her craft ?inside and out?, her manner, work ethic, and approachability quickly wove her into the fabric of our family. Company picked up new appliances at Sears and delivered to my home.Work then commenced on dismantling old wall oven. The kitchen cabinet base then had to be cut(including to counter top) to install the new kitchen range. New gas line had to be installed and a new water line for the new refrigerator. A new wall closet was built where the old wall oven was..All done in ONE day. GREAT JOB!!
