Description of Work: The guy from Arocon roofing game to my scheduled estimate appointment on time, was very professional and overall did a good job at assessing the problem with the roof (i.e. I had a rusted chimney panel). However, he did not actually get on the roof to inspect the chimney and roof, he rather only used binoculars to make and educated guess. He then proceeded to over charge me for the overall repair. Overall a very good business man and I do believe he was for the most part correct with his assessment. I did not like that he did not get on the roof and that he overcharged therefore I did not end up using his service.

They were very knowledgeable and we were impressed by them. They subcontracted some of the work, and they were able to get the subcontractor to come back and correct some issues that we saw. They were very responsive to that request.
Description of Work: We got a brand new roof, including removal of old shingles, and installation new shingles and replacement of the skylight.

They had to shift days because of rain on the agreed to start date, but we quickly rescheduled for later that week. They arrived at 7:30, worked through the day and completed after 5 PM. The guys worked hard, they were obviously experienced roofers, they took care with their work to do a professional job and got every done in the manner we had agreed with the estimator. It rained right after they finished (in the nick of time), and the latest hurricane showed the job was done correctly. I was a little skeptical of them at first, but they're really a very professionally run organization and I'd do business with them again.
Description of Work: I had a failure of a roof on my large screened porch. They removed the entire roof, including sheathing, and replace it (Arocon did not do the original roof). The estimator did a good job, coming up with suggestions to hopefully improve the life of the new roof. He called back several times, but didn't press once I said I needed more quotes from other contractors.

We were going to wait on getting a new roof until next year, when I noticed that our living room ceiling was leaking onto our new carpet. This happened 3 weeks before our daughter's wedding, and I was devastated because we were expecting out of town guests and hosting a celebration in our home. I called several roofing companies that I found on Angie's List, which I had just joined because we've had some really bad experiences with home improvement companies in the past, even after I checked them out through the licensing agency and BBB. My main concern was that we get a quality job done at an affordable price, but most importantly, the new roof had to be completed no later than the week before our daughter's wedding so that we could be ready for our guests and the wedding. Arocon had one of the very best ratings and reviews on AL, and they were able to come out the very next day to give us an estimate. I was very appreciative of the fast turn around time given our circumstances, which they were very understanding and compassionate about. Ed came out and met with me and my daughter, and was probably here nearly 2 hours. During that time, he looked into our attic, went up and inspected our roof, and gave us a detailed explanation and estimate of the work they would be doing. I was a little embarrassed that we had another company here to give an estimate, and they overlapped, and Ed was so nice and even let the other guy use his ladder to go up onto our roof. He wasn't the least bit offended, and said that he expects that his customers are going to get 3 estimates. His estimate was very professional looking, and he gave us a folder that gave all the details and went over any questions that I had, which were a lot. I didn't feel like I was being pressured or rushed whatsoever. Their estimate was right in the middle of the 3 we received, but we went with Arocon because I honestly got a good feeling that their company was honest, reputable and professional. Ed said that their company was scheduling jobs about 2 weeks in advance. However, he made some phone calls, and let us know that he would be able to do our job on an expedited schedule due to the wedding. He was at our house on Wednesday and they did the work the following Monday, which worked perfectly for us. After our contract was submitted, we received a courtesy phone call from the company to keep us updated on the status of our job. The workers were supposed to arrive at 8:00 and were actually early, which was great. The lead guy introduced himself and they got right to work. The whole roof was finished by about 5:00, with very little disruption. I went outside several times and every time the crew of about 5 men were working hard. We have dogs and so I was concerned about any nails that might be left, and they swept the whole lawn with a big magnet and when I cleaned out the gardens that week, I only found 2 nails. Pretty impressive. As they were finishing up, I noticed one of the men just constantly walking around the house picking up little pieces of debris. The clean up was really perfect. After they left, I realized that there was no cricket built on the chimney, so I called the company, who apologized and sent the crew back the next day and they took care of building it. Again, the men were so polite and nice. Our wedding guests arrived and we were able to entertain them and not worry about a leaky roof. I am very leary of home improvement companies because I've had a lot of terrible experiences despite doing my due diligence. But, Arocon was top notch! I felt very good about the decision we made to go with them, our roof looks beautiful, and I've already recommended them to several neighbors. And, yesterday was the day of hurricane Sandy, with massive amounts of rain, and the roof passed the test! I highly recommend this professional company, who really went out of their way to accommodate our timetable.
Description of Work: Tear off old shingles and replace with a new roof, also they built a chimney cricket and installed vents on the peaks of our house.

The initial meeting with the Salesman went well. Rapport was good and there was no B/S in response to numerous questions. I discussed several problem areas such as ice damming that occurred 2-3 years ago. Ice and water shield was recommended so we went along with it as I had previously read about it in a press article. I remain to be convinced of its efficacy but as the problem has only happened once in 30 years, (and I may not be around to see the next one), my concern may be moot. Venting to the attic space needed improving as two bathroom fans were being vented into that space and some mold had appeared on the underside of the decking. The infected sheets of plywood were replaced at a price 40% less than a competitive bid. Free spraying of the remainder of the attic space with bleach was provided. "Edge Eave" venting was recommended, which consists of plastic vents placed under the shingles near the gutter and a slot is cut in the decking a little higher up to provide a pathway for air into the attic. If it works, it would seem to provide an airway from the lowest level to the highest, (through the ridge vent). A competitor suggested a roof fan + ridge venting which seemed to me to create a short circuit of air flow through just the highest regions of the attic. It was claimed that air flow from the bottom to top would keep the attic space cooler in the summer. Sounds OK in theory, guess I'll have to wait till next summer to see if it works. After the contract was signed, I realised none of the houses on this development have "under eave" venting and we never discussed the pros and cons of one system over the other. Later it was said that "under eave" conventional venting would have been much more expensive, although no price comparisons were offered. As an after thought, it seemed to me that "under eave" venting might have been a better fit in an ice damming scenario. Several small issues needed resolving and a Technician was dispatched within 24 hours. Overall comments: Getting several quotes provided a number of opportunities to discuss alternative approaches, (as well as different quotes), for the same problems and raised issues that might have been otherwise missed. There was no hedging over provision of insurance information and when materials were delivered and had to be left outside for nearly a week due to rain forecasts, I became concerned that items might be pilfered. It was said that Arocon would accept responsibility. I didn't see the work crew standing idle, unlike on many other job sites. Maybe this impacts other job quotes!! I rated quality as a B because this type of product/work can only be assessed visually and can only really be validated over time, and not because of any suspect performance issues. Warning: When the shingles are delivered, the truck sprouts outriggers while the shingles are loaded onto the roof via a conveyor belt. The weight created by those outriggers cracked my drive. My drive needs replacing anyway so for me it wasn't a major issue.
Description of Work: Shingles replaced Partial deck replaced Ventilation to roof space changed from two gable vents + attic fan, to ridge and "Edge eave" venting. Added ice and water shield to "prevent" ice damming. Vented bathroom fans to exterior through the roof.

This was one of the best home improvement experiences yet - from estimate thru completion. Eric promptly came out for an estimate and among the 5 companies that we asked for an estimate, he easily made the most professional impression. He was very detail-oriented, made in-depth suggestions about what exactly to fix; which shingled to use etc. The price was - though not the cheapest - was very competitive. Eric was also open to negotiate, e.g. we received an upgrade to the architectural shingles for free. Material was supposed to come one day before the job - didn't happen, but turned out to be a minor hiccup (phone call would have been nice). On the day of the job, work crew was very punctual. They were extremely nice and forthcoming. I had organized an insulation blower, to add insulation to the attic. They were flexible enough to take off a plank and install the insulation for me. Overall, they were quick and thorough, and also very clean. Debris was at an absolute minimum, and there was no damage to the surrounding shrubs. While they accidentally trashed our (very cheap) gutter guards, they immediately agreed to install new, high-end guards with absolutely no hassle. The roof looks great, and a rainstorm later, I can report no leaks. I can only commend AROCON for the great job.
Description of Work: Complete new roof install (architectural shingles), including replacement of any damaged flashing/boards/plywood.

The company was mostly very professional. The salesman explained in detail what we needed to have done. He offered us several different options and made us feel comfortable with whichever we chose to pursue. Once we signed the contract, they were prompt in setting up the appointment. We were not home during the chimney repair but I can tell that the chimney is no longer cracked and that there is a chimney cap. I was home during the roofing and found the work crew very easy to deal with. Only two things concerned me: The scheduler had said that the roofers would arrive around 8 am - and they did not arrive until around 1 or 1:30. Apparently we were their second job. I wish someone had called me to explain this. That is why I gave them a C on punctuality. The other concern was that they brought the black torch-down instead of the white. I did catch this in time and once the foreman verified the order, he went and replaced the black with white. Despite this, they still finished in a timely manner and cleaned up the debris from our yard and porch. I would use them for another job. I found them very easy to work with and was impressed with their work. On a final note, we just experienced a rainstorm and we had no leaking!

I liked them but I might have a little question about what they did because I don't go up on the roof. I agreed to go with their bid after their estimator came out and gave me pictures of what it looked like up there. They sent guys up there to do the work but I am not sure they finished because they just left. I am not sure whether they are finished so I probably will call them to find out what they did. Arocon send inexperienced crew who never installed this product. The crew had to read manual to install new railing, job took 7 days instead of 2 days. We had to bring back an expert to make correction to botched installation. On a good side, we had access to the owner, who came over to review the punch list and in the end sent an expert to make repairs. Their assigned project manager (supervisor) responsible for a job was very much useless.

Our overall experience with this job was not what we expected and was quite frustrating. There seemed to be a lack of communication between teams and management at times but this may have been due to a change in the management staff and structure of the company during the onset of our project. Although there were quite a few problems over the life of the project, April 11 through September 14, Dave Silverstein (co-owner Arocon) seemed committed to do what they could to make the job right. He also assured us that the problems we experienced were not the norm and improvements were made so future customers would not go through the same experiences. The metal crew is skilled in their trade and everyone that we met through this project was friendly, courteous and carried themselves as professionals. Just a final footnote, now early November, after obvserving additional details. I've noted a number of damaged/crushed soffit caused while they were repairing fascia that had to be replaced (a 3rd time) and the fact that the ridge cap (also replaced a 3rd time is still not centered with the fascia's peek in the front of the house. This wasn't as noticable before the tree on the porch directly in front of the peak lost its leaves. A wider ridge cap was ordered to offer additional protection from water over the attaching z-bars since they would have to be moved. But the z-bars were not moved so now the ridge cap overhangs the z-bars by inches on the one side (the z-bars are normally right up to the edge of the ridge cap and inserted into the rolled/folded edge to create a stronger, tighter and weather proof joint. . . Anyway, just more reason that I would not use them again. It's sad because I do like the folks. After their last time here to attempt to correct things I deleted almost the whole lengthly review that I submitted. Although I kind of wish I would not have removed so much detail without holding their feet to the fire I will leave it go at this now and move on. One good thing I can comment on, we just survived the Hurricane Sandy as at least as far as I could tell there were no leaks and no pieces torn off by the wind.

We're pleased with the job Arocon did, though it didn't get done without a couple hitches and some miscommunication. We chose Arocon out of three contractors we had bid on the job because it was highly rated by Angies members and by one of our neighbors, who'd had the company re-roof his house earlier this year. Eric Consuegra, the company's vp, was very patient and responsive as we delayed deciding in order to have another pressing job done, and then adjusted our job description. We went back and forth about adding insulation, and ultimately opted to handle that separately, but in a second meeting with Eric chose to have eave ventilation and a solar attic fan installed. I walked out back with Eric and indicated that we wanted the fan in the back or on the side of our pyramid-peaked roof, to reduce its visibility from the street. We scheduled the job to be done the Monday after we got back from vacation, and a company rep called me the Friday before while we were still at the beach to confirm the start date. We found roofing materials stacked neatly beside the house when we returned that weekend. The crew showed up early Monday and set to work. The crew leader informed me that the gutter guards hadn't been delivered, but would be later in the day. He confirmed with me that the shingle color delivered was the one we wanted, and said they should be finished by day's end. As I left for work, I yelled up to the roof to ask that he call my cell if they had any questions, and to call me in any case when they neared the end of the job, and I'd come back out to inspect and pay them. I thought he acknowledged that, though perhaps it was too noisy for him to hear properly. The day passed without any calls - though that might have been because my wife ended up taking my cellphone. I checked in at one point late in the afternoon with my son, who was home, and he said they were still working and had just started on the garage. I didn't get home from work until dusk, and the job apparently was done. I walked around and looked over what I could see, which looked fine - with one major exception: the attic fan had been installed on the street-facing side of our roof. It was the same color as the shingles, but the solar panel made it large and quite visible. I also couldn't see from below any indication that gutter guards had been installed. I called Eric's cell that night and left a message that the fan had been installed in the wrong place and I wanted that fixed, also that I couldn't tell if any gutter guards had been put on, so wanted to be shown them and how they worked. I got a call the next morning from Jason, another company rep, who said he'd heard from Eric. He said the fan could be easily relocated, and that I wouldn't be able to see the gutter guards from the ground. He said a crew could come back out the next morning, a Wednesday, to move the fan and show me the guards. I agreed. Then, in a subsequent call, Jason informed me the gutter guards had not actually been installed because they weren't delivered, but they would be now. I went to work, and then around lunchtime Jason called to ask if the crew was at my house yet. I said I didn't know since I was not there, but I'd thought we'd arranged to have them come Wednesday morning when I could be there. Jason informed me that since someone was available that day to do the work, he wanted to go ahead and address my problems promptly. The crew had already left their Westminster shop a short while ago and should be at my house already or soon. I hadn't planned on taking a long lunch break, but was able to, so drove out to my house to find the two-person crew - headed by a self-described troubleshooter named Troy - had already moved the attic fan and re-shingled the spot where it had been. I couldn't tell there had been a fan there. He then showed me the gutter guard, how it would be attached to the gutters, and set about installing it after confirming with me where it was to go. Troy also gave me a plausible explanation for a troubling mystery that had presented itself in the wake of the re-roofing job - but one that again highlighted some of the miscommunication that occurred during this job. My son informed me water had been dripping out of an air conditioning vent in the ceiling of our den on the day the roof was being replaced. I suspected water may have penetrated the roof while the shingles were off, but my son informed me it hadn't rained that day. I checked in the attic and confirmed that our central air conditioning unit was not leaking water or condensation. Then I realized that the drain pipe for AC condensation discharges on the den roof. I asked Troy, and he said water was trickling out of the pipe noticeably. He said he'd been on a job once where AC condensation leaked through the shingle-less roof and through the ceiling of a home creating a large puddle. He told me the crew should have asked us to turn off the AC while they were working on the roof, or that portion of it. Fortunately, there was no water damage to the ceiling, as the leak evidently channeled itself along the AC vent. I went back to work with Troy and helper working on the gutter guards, but more confident I was getting what I'd arranged to pay for. When I got home that evening, the guards were installed - I could see the lip overhanging my gutter from the ground. In the end, my wife and I were pleased with the new roof, and the job Arocon had done. Except for a few bits of old and new roofing material -- and one small bush I noticed afterward was flattened, possibly by the roof-to-ground tarps put on all four sides of the house to collect old shingles and roofing paper -- the crews were neat and cleaned up thoroughly. My only complaints were over the miscommunication that occurred: about where the fan would go, about letting me come see their work before the first crew left, about the initial failure to install the gutter guards, and the lack of a caution about turning off the AC to prevent condensation leakage through the roof. Fortunately nothing untoward resulted, but I do think the company could improve its communication internally and with customers. For potential customers of Arocon or any contractor, I would highly recommend making sure you have a written contract or work order that spells out in excruciating detail every aspect of the job, so nothing gets lost between the salesman or estimator and the folks who do the actual work. When the crew shows up, also take the time to walk through or review everything before they start, just to make sure they understand what's written out and nothing's been left out or changed at the last minute. We were fortunate this time, but I can assure you I'll be doing that with every future contractor!
Description of Work: We hired Arocon to re-roof our home, detached garage and storage shed, all of which except the shed had been untouched since we bought the place in 1988. On the advice of a home energy audit, which found we had inadequate ventilation in our attic, we contracted to have eave vents and a solar-powered attic fan put in. Lastly we ordered gutter guards.

tEric came to our house to give us an estimate for a new roof, new gutters, a gutter guard on one side, and two Solatubes (which are like skylights). He was very upfront and very willing to talk through various options for shingle choice, based on aesthetics and quality. We had estimates from three companies and this was the best price for the quality we wanted. Eric even dropped off some shingles so that we could see the ones we thought we wanted before we signed the actual contract. The work was performed on time and was well-done - and none of my landscaping was adversely affected! The Solatubes are beautiful and make a big difference for a relatively small price. We are planning to have some interior home improvement work done in the fall, and will definitely be calling Arocon again!
Description of Work: We had our existing roof removed and a new roof put on, plus two Solatubes installed. We also had the gutters replaced and a gutter guard put on one side of the house where we tend to get a lot of pine needles clogging the water flow.

Excellent job overall. We did have some damage to our gutter helmet; however, they promptly returned and repaired the gutter helmet-in the rain no less. The delivery truck did put a slight hole in front lawn and they returned and repaired that as well. Excellent service.
Description of Work: We had our entire roof stripped and replaced.

A salesman made exaggerated claims and promises that were not honored by AROCON. The sales person left the company and it took a period of time to resolve the issues created by the sales person. The company was professional and reasonable when it came to finding a solution to the problems. All issues were settled amicably and in a timely fashion.
Description of Work: The resolved issue with AROCON was because of unwarranted and exaggerated claims of a sales representative. The relationship with the sales rep was terminated and the principals of the company resolved any and all issues that were pending. It is unfortunate that this incident occurred but a reasonable and acceptable resolution was proposed and accepted.

Chet Haifly was helpful, fair, and gave an exact estimate and contract within 30 minutes or less. The front porch work was done by Mike. It was quality work completed within 3 hours. The 2 carpenters who replaced head beam did work to die for. They were great, clean, and if I didn't see them work I would not believe that much was done. Mike's crew led by Manual B. were the best. Never seen such quality workers, handled 40ft ladder like they were nothing. The quality time used and clean up was A+.The office person Jason was sincere. there when you needed him. Right down to giving his cell number. What a group.
Description of Work: Replaced damaged face board on right side of house. Installed soffit, wrapped new face board with aluminum trim, supplied and installed new seamless 5k gutter and new 2'x3' down spot. Replaced 9'x10' of warped front porch door boards, replaced header beam and wrapped with aluminum trim, and replaced soffit to porch.

I got three estimates and theirs was the most reasonably priced. The only thing that I didn't like is that their crew left before letting me know they were finished so I could inspect the work while they were present. There were a couple of small things they missed and they had to come back out, but did so quite cheerfully and professionally. Their crew was very hard-working and quite professional. I would definitely use them or recommend them again.
Description of Work: They replaced 6 valley liners and a number of broken slate tiles on the roof and replaced most of the gutters with half-round gutters and downspouts.

Overall the process went well. The estimate was detailed and the person actually went into the attic to show me where there was insufficient ventilation. I had a small bump out in the rear of the townhouse that I also wanted the shingles replaced. I was told that if I gave them the job they would do this small area also. I wasn't home when they came out and did the job. When I came home the job was finished and they were gone. The main roof looked great, however, they didn't do the bump out as promised. I called the office and they apologized and scheduled a time to come out and finish the job. They came back and finished the job about a week later. Overall, the roof looks great, however, they did replace shingles over wood trim that was rotting pretty badly (on the bump out). I would have thought they would have seen this and replaced the trim but I guess it wasnt in the contract. I do remember bringing this matter to Arocon,s attention the day before and telling them I would cover the extra costs but apparently the information wasnt relayed to the roofers in time. Now I have to figure out how to remove the rotting trim without damaging the shingles.

Overall, we are very happy. The roof looks great, and the quality that went into the installation is visible. We had a few issues, however, we would and have already recommended them. Estimate: Ed was very thorough in this estimate, going around the house, into the attic, and taking measurements. He didn't pressure us to go with architectural shingles or to make a decision that day which we appreciated. The estimate was thorough and specified exactly what we'd be getting. The price was not the lowest, nor was it the highest. And Ed was willing to negotiate with us in order to meet our needs and get the business. They required 1/3 down as a deposit, and collected the remainder after the final inspection. Process: We were told the job would be completed in a day; it took two days which was not a problem at all for us. The workers were punctual, professional, and did excellent work. They were regular subcontractors who worked extremely hard and diligently, hardly taking a break. They knew what they were doing and seemed very precise in their work. The lead spoke English which helped when we had a question. They did a good job of cleaning up after finishing the work. Ed did a final inspection within two days. As we said, they did an incredible job and the roof looks beautiful. Issues: We had three issues in working with them. First, we invested in a new top-of-the-line $18,000 Azek deck that runs the entire width of the house. We said to Ed and had specified in the contract that we wanted the deck protected during the roof installation. The project mgr. loosly put down a plastic tarp to cover the flooring and left, and the wind immediately blew it to the house. When I checked, I saw the deck covered with old roofing materials thrown down, nails, and tons of black gravel like material, and both ends had sheets of plywood sitting on it. I was upset, and went out myself to pick up the mess. I moved the plywood, moved all old nails and roofing material onto the tarp, replaced the tarp and weighed down the tarp on ends and sides. My husband later swept up the small particles. Secondly, we negotiated and Ed agreed to put in the contract that a project manager would be on the job during the entire process. Another company (top notch) that we considered does this, and we told Ed Arocon could have the business if they agreed to this. We wanted the person to ensure that the work done was quality and asked Eric to take pictures of any issues, materials, and the work as it was done (ie pictures of where the wood was damaged, ridge vent, flashing, piping etc). The company persistently requested on both days to let Eric leave and go to other jobs. When I told Eric I wasn't comfortable, his boss Doug called and asked for us to let him leave for a few hours. I reminded Doug that Eric's presence the whole time was in the contract, and we'd like them to honor this. We were asked on the second day as well, and again I said I wasn't comfortable, when my husband went outside Eric asked him! They finally wore us down, and the afternoon of the second day, we said if they want him to go that badly that he could go. We also found that Eric was in the pickup much of the time taking calls and being on the computer. When we approached him about this, he said that the workers didn't need any supervision. We got the feeling they just put this in the contract in order to get the business, and didn't think we'd hold them to being there the entire job. We also were shown a few of the pictures, but certainly not of the whole process as we requested. The third issue, was that while the company was for the most part very careful about the landscaping, they smashed a foot high ornamental bush in the front of the house. It is still alive, but half of the bush was broken off. I showed this to Ed on the final inspection, but no offer was made to replace the plant. It was a $40 plant.
Description of Work: Tarp and protect all landscaping, decks, sidewalks, etc. upon project commencement. Remove and dispose of all layers of existing roofing materials. Replace any damaged plywood with CDX 1/2", and cut plywood and install to fill gaps at eaves along outer perimeter of the house. Install CertainTeed Landmark Pro architectural shingles to entire roof system. Install F 4 1/2 white drip edge to roof perimeter. Install #15 felt to roofing area. Install Shingle Starters to roofing perimeter. Install hard plastic cap-over ridge vent to main roof apex and secure with 3" hand drive nails. Install Shingle Hip an Ridge to all ridge lines and seal. Install new aluminum vent piping flashings. Install double gaskets to all vent pipes for 200% life. Seal all flashings and applicable roofing penetrations with high density Vulkem roofing calk. Install new chimney step flashing and apron metall. Install shingles using manufacturer recommended 4 nail pattern and secure with 1"1/4 coil roofing nails. Install Ice and Water Shield to all vent pipes, valleys, eaves, rakes, chimney, ridge and any other applicable roof penetrations. Clean and tighten all gutters and clear downspouts of any existing clogs. Spray paint all vent pipes to match shingles. Have a project manager on site during the entire installation. Provide pictures of the process, materials, damages and unexpected conditions that surface resulting from removal of existing roof material.
