I went to Wilson, which I have used before. The experience was great. The sales people have a lot of experience, and were quite willing to talk to me about technical questions, and to ask each other if they weren't sure. I had already made drawings and calculated the lumber. They calculated my concrete and gravel for the postholes and we put together an order. I was pleased that delivery was only $7 (They only charge fuel cost for orders over $500.) I ordered bagged concrete and gravel due to the nature of the job, and there was a $15 pallet charge, which I don't know yet whether refundable.
I got delivery the next business day as promised and early in the time window they gave me.The driver made sure he knew exactly where I wanted the materials, even offering to take them by forklift to the back of my property, where I will be working. He did not bring the big truck up my driveway, a thoughtful insight for blacktop driveways in 100 degree weather. Instead, he brought them by forklift from the street. In addition, he offered to and did place the concrete into my garage despite the fact that the forklift is taller than my garage door. (and quot;Experience, and quot; he explained.)
I would use Wilson for any project that uses quality, common building materials. They are not a full-service hardware store, although they did have a steel digging bar I needed that I could not find anywhere else, and their tools are all heavy duty; I believe they serve mostly contractors and farmers.
Super experience all around.
