"Everready Plumbing and Well Service responded to a call for no water. After checking the well system it was obvious the well was very dirty. After removing the pump from the well, Everready attempted to clean the well. After the cleaning process was complete, it became obvious that the well casing was damaged underground and to install a new pump was not advisable. The customer was advised to drill a new well. The customer insisted that Everready install the new pump and test the system. The customer was advised that installing the new pump in the well with so much debris could ruin the new pump in a shore time. The customer still wanted to try so Everready installed the pump in the well casing. The pump was started but could only produce about 20 psi. If the well had cleared up and the pump operated properly, the charge would have been $3400. Since it ws obvious that a new well needed to be drilled, Everready offered to take a loss and suggested that $2500 of the $3400 could go toward the cost of drilling a new well if Everready did the job. When the new well was drilled, Everready would use the new pump and install it in the new well. At this time Everready could not quote a price for drilling the well until he contacted his well drilling associate. This was the reason for the delay in calling the customer back. It was explained to the customer that Well Drilling companies are very busy with backlogs of weeks or months. Everready's Associate has worked with us int eh past to squeeze a customer into their schedule. I think perhaps the customer misunderstood all that was discussed on this job. Granted, communication on the part of Everready could have been better, but ultimately Everready removed the old pump, cleaned the well as good as possible and installed the new pump in the well casing at the direction of the customer. A charge of $3400 is a fair price for the work. If the customer would like us to drill the new well, Everready will be happy to honor the offer of $2500 as a down payment toward whatever the well drillers quote is."
The 2 toilets repaired were repaired, to include replacement parts, by another plumber in Sept; since these are not used regularly, I didn't discover, that they were still running until Nov; I shut the water off in both bathrooms. SInce Christmas was nearing I decided to have them fixed.
Rather than go back to the same plumber, a friend of mine referred me to Everready. They came the following day; fixed one and came back the next day with replacement parts to repair the other.
They explained the problems, with both; they were very professional and polite; will use them in the future. The pump did have a hole in it and needed to be replaced. First problem was extracting the old pipe, which they claimed needed a huge crane that cost $1000. This to only take out 160 ft of pipe. I since learned from two well companies that the standard truck is all that's needed. They claimed they weren't sure how much pipe there was in spite of what I and a neighbor told them (wells in that area are about 200 ft).
Second, it turns out the casing had a hole in it but they didn't tell me (you can see the stain where it was on the old pipe). They can't dig wells after all so why would they tell me? Since it had a hole in the silt problem continued until I consulted an actual well driller.
I've also since learned that a master plumber has to be on site when they do this kind of work. I wasn't informed of this requirement and don't know if one was there.
Therefore, a new well had to be drilled, which is what should have been done in the first place. When they extracted the plumber's new plastic pipe it was obvious where the silt was coming from (about 50 ft down). The drill company would only guarantee the pump they installed so another one had to be put in to replace the one only 6 months old (in addition to new pipe).
THEN, Everready charged $4000 for the new pump and installation (plus the $1000 crane). I've been told by several people that the usual charge for this is between $2000 and $2500.
So, I paid double for something that had to redone only months later!
