McHale has done many jobs in our neighborhood so I knew they did
quality work. When they asked if we had a budget we said not yet but
that we wanted to keep the work within reason considering the overall
value of the home (about $1.5 Mil). They charged me $1000 to do the
design and estimate. The design work was fabulous, but no where near
what we had requested. What they had designed was appropriate for a
home three times the size our ours. When I saw the price I just laughed
to myself. They quoted $522K for the work! Incredible! I had
expected a price of not more than $100K for the work. I felt the design
and estimate were an insult to my intelligence and completely missed
what we were looking for. So unless you have unlimited $$$ and don't
mind wasting them I would look elsewhere.

Our focus on customer service is paramount to the solid reputation we have maintained since 1981. Deciding that a contractors price is too high (with no basis and no mandated budget) , is not a reason to post a negative comment on Angies list. As we do with all of our clients who do not give us a budget, we create a plan that includes all the design elements the client has requested. We then provide a cost analysis and the client is then able to make decisions based on their budget and needs. The client has the option to do all of the project at once, phase the project according to their available funds or have us revise the plan to meet their budget. [removed member name] did none of these. It seems unfair that [removed member name] posted the comment that our prices are too high when he never gave us a budget. [removed member name] has also made an assumption that is not true for most of our clients. He was astonished, his word was “incredible” that our price was $522,000 for the work on a house that is valued at 1.5 mil. Many of our clients exceed 30% and even 40-50% of the value of their home in landscape design/build projects. It’s all about value and quality of outdoor living, not just price. If [removed member name] had given us a budget, we would have presented a plan within his budget with options of design ideas above his budget. Their pricing was a little higher than average but they have an excellent product. They are timely, they do good work and they are overall good. I would use them again; they are coming back out.
