M & I Hawkins Concrete

Work was done over the period of a week by the owner, someone I believe he said was his brother and some younger man.The existing steps were removed and forms put in place as well as forms for the patio and walkway. All work was done during the late afternoon hour and on weekend. I also had to make the check out in his name and not his company. When the concrete truck arrived I had to be here when the driver arrived first thing in the morning so I could pay the driver for the load. He only accepted cash. Surprisingly the cost of the concrete was not a part of the original estimate.
 The concrete was dyed, poured, and stamped while I was at work. After the concrete hardened he began work on the block wall surrounding the patio.
The stamp work was very inconsistent as if areas of the concrete had hardened before he couple apply the stamp making the stamping almost non-existent. The first level of the steps is at such a steep angle it is a safety hazard in the winter or when wet from rain. The slope of the patio is much more pronounced than I was expecting. In a couple of spots on the patio there are black shoe prints that are not permanent. I had to stop him and ask them to leave my property when he was putting in the block wall as it was all messed up and uneven. This was after he told me that he needed me to purchase more glue for adhering the blocks in place.
I had to remove the block wall he had put together and redo the work myself. The drainage system along side the walkway was never installed and I had to do that myself as well. I also had nearly half of a trash can full of beer bottles.
I waited several months so I could make this review after the anger had subsided. Despite this mans claim that stamped concrete is his specialty, I would not recommend him for any work no matter how simple. if you do, only agree to payment upon completion of the work to your satisfaction.
