Once demolition had begun, he encountered the tubing for our central vacuum system. Because he was unwilling to move this, our bathtub would not fit in the original location, and our bathroom had to be expanded further into the bedroom. This resulted in a dramatic increase in the cost of the project. disproportionate to the additional work. He had an extremely hard time running the plumbing around the HVAC ducting, both of which he had to modify. It appeared he had little if any experience in this area, and it took an inordinately long time. Once the subfloor was finally installed, the tile was laid, and the cabinets needed to be installed for measuring for custom granite countertops. He did not understand that the cabinets needed to be permanently mounted prior to measuring for the granite, which he finally did upon our absolute insistence. The shower pan was poured improperly as the sill was too low, and was not properly leveled. This had to be corrected by a different contractor prior to installation of our custom shower door. The vanity lights were both mounted off center, one of which we had him correct because it was so blatantly obvious, but only after significant arguing. The bathroom fan was mounted pointing the wrong way, which he corrected again only after much arguing. The closet door needed to be moved because of the reconfigured bathroom, but the width was narrower than we wanted because he was unable to deal with moving wires in the wall. Furthermore, upon moving our bedroom light switch, one of the outlets was disconnected, which we had to repair with another electrician. The remodeling of our closet consisted only of gutting the existing hardware and moving the door. He only agreed to paint the closet after significant negotiations. The new master bedroom door he installed would not shut, nor would he paint it until after much arguing. We had to fix the door ourselves. There were innumerable examples of lack of attention to detail, such as missing screws, crooked switches, and lack of baseboards. He also failed to install any mirrors. We had agreed to purchase all materials for this project, but he also included basic supplies such as gloves, towels, buckets, a soldering iron, and blades and bits for his saws and drills which he should have already owned. He showed up late many days, and sometimes not at all. He almost never called to inform us when he would or would not be arriving. The plumbing is still problematic, with the water pressure being very low. We will need to hire another plumber to deal with this, as well as with the leaking toilet he installed. Overall, he was pleasant when things went right, and his price initially seemed fair, but when he encoutered problems, he seemed unable to cope with them and escalated the price. This seemed to be the biggest project he had taken on to date, and he was ill-prepared to deal with its complexity.
