Although this was a costly repair, I expected it, as I was having clutch/transmission problems. Repairs included replacing clutch, battery, and repairing an oil leak that was allowing oil to get into the clutch assembly. They saved me $750 by finding a creative alternative to replacing an integrated sensor unit. They also repaired without request or charge a minor interior hardware problem. Great outfit. Will definitely go back.

Even though Sand L didn't service my car, I did speak with Bill over the phone and I think that the direction of the call merits this review. We have a 1962 Oldsmobile that we run every so often. One of the lifters got stuck and it was creating a horrible noise. I called Sand L and Bill said that his shop tries not to get into cars that age and beyond because of the things that can go wrong and the lack of parts locally. Fair enough. BUT, instead of leaving me with any option he gave me ten minutes of his time, and gaveme intsructions on how I could try and get that lifter unstuck on my own. His advice was very sound, his voice was very kind. And he provided me the name of a local mechanic who could help me IF his remedy didn't work. And this is exactly what a caring, and secure business person will do - if they can't do something, they know who can and or they will give you the best advice they can. I just might give him my Prius to change oil!

I have had my cars worked on at Sand L for almost 10 years now almost exclusively and have never been disappointed in their work. They were recommended to me by a friend and the first time I took a car there I was very impressed. I was sure I needed a new starter and told them that when I dropped the car off. Bill called me back a couple of hours later to tell me there was a loose connection in one of the wires and that I could come pick up the car. They could have easily sold me a starter, but that is not the way they do business. I have had similar experiences with them over the years and I value their integrity and professionalism.
My latest experience happened after I took my car to a local Mr. Tires (and I will be writing a review on that shortly) for a new set of tires because they were and quot;cheaperand quot; there (when will I learn that and quot;cheaperand quot; usually isn't?) and also a front end alignment. I soon noticed a very bad shaking in the front end around 50-55 mph. Rather than return to Mr. Tires, I took the car to Sand L to have them look at it. I had had previous problems with the steering arm on the Cherokee and thought it might be that again. (This is a problem that is common on Cherokees). It turned out that the problem was that all 4 wheels were grossly out of balance because Mr. Tires had put way too much weight on every tire. Again, Sand L could have charged me for extensive repair work I thought was needed, but they did not.
Bottom line, I have a repair shop I can trust and I will continue to use them for all my auto repairs.

I've used them for a few years. I know the owner and he is very honest with me. They are reasonable. It's a small shop so there is not a lot of overhead.

You can't go wrong using Sand L Auto. I have used them for the past 10 or so years and feel completely relaxed and confident that they'll provide the best service, an honest estimate, and be as prompt as possible. They are the first automotive mechanics that I have ever felt confident using and being a single woman, I think that should carry a lot of weight when deciding who to use. In the past when my budget has been very small, they worked with me to fix only what was absolutely necessary and told me in what order the other items should be fixed. They won't nickle and dime you to death. My engine light came on twice for short periods of time and they hooked the car to the diagnostic machine and wouldn't charge me for that. Another place would have charged $60 - $70 just to hook up the car (called to find out how much I was being saved by using Sand L Auto). It was the air/fuel sensor that had gone bad.

I've been using this shop for years. Ever since I took an old Ford Escort in with an electrical short. First the accessories (wipers, lights, etc) would stay on even after I took the keys out. They they stopped working all together. Sand L told me that this would be $65/hr (I think that was in '02). I agreed to up to 2 hours for them to explore the miles of wiring in my dash looking for the cause of the short. I'd have to pay them even if they couldn't find/fix it. They found it and only charged me for a half hour of work. Good work, honest and reasonable pricing. ------------ As for this service: Dropped my car off the night before, leaving the keys in the night drop. Picked it up the next afternoon. Everything works as expected and the high pitched squeal is gone. A week later on a hundred degree day, my car started shaking at idle. I called the shop, and they suspected that it was my engine mounts. A common problem as cars age, but my car is only 7 years old. They didn't have any immediate time, and scheduled me for next Monday. They said it should not cause any damage in the mean time. The shaking went away a couple of days later when the temperature dropped a little. They checked out my car on Monday as planned. My engine mounts were fine. It was a dirty air flow sensor causing the car to idle very low, almost cutting out. They cleaned it and charged me $23! Lowest 'repair bill' I've ever paid.
