"Dear Ms. [member name removed]: Thanks for your review. It sounds like we didn't do a good job in explaining our minimum charge for mold remediation, a policy which we've recently introduced. Just to be clear - we do not charge $2500 "just to come out" - we are happy to provide free estimates. However, we have decided to set a minimum charge for mold remediation projects for three reasons, all of which are related to complying with remediation industry regulations and best practices. First, we offer a warranty that we will repeat the remediation at no additional charge to our customer until we pass an independent third party's clearance test via air sampling and we will pay for any additional sampling required. Our pass rate for clearance tests after initial remediation is over 97%, but we bear the risk of a clearance test failure. We encourage any prospective customers to compare that warranty to our competitors' warranties or guarantees - make sure that they insist on using an independent third party (called an environmental hygienist) to take air samples of their remediation projects and make sure that there are no additional charges if they fail a clearance test. Mold remediation should always be quantified with air sampling. Success of a remediation project should not be determined by a visual inspection alone. Second, it's a best practice in our industry for remediation contractors to carry "pollution insurance" in addition to general liability insurance. The increasing cost of that insurance has influenced my decision that we cannot perform mold remediation projects less than $2500 in a way that's cost effective for us. Finally, we need to make sure that our employees who perform mold remediation are properly protected - with the right equipment and training and the right workers' compensation insurance codes. That, too, has influenced my decision that we cannot perform mold remediation projects less than $2500 in a way that's cost effective for us. For all of those reasons, we've concluded that we can't do mold remediation projects the right way and cost effectively for less than $2500. We understand that price is not suitable for all project or customers, but we try to be very clear about our minimum charge so that we don't waste your time to schedule an estimate that will ultimately be much higher than you think the project warrants. I called them up at the same time as 4 other companies on Angie's List after a violent storm and sump-pump failure left my 1800 sq ft finished basement flooded. I learnt that all the restoration and water removal companies were overbooked due to similar issues. I left a message at 9 pm. I heard back the next day from Brad at 8 am.
I explained the situation to Brad and he regretted that he couldn't get a crew out soon and encouraged me to walk down Angie's List and call others saying I should go with a positively-reviewed company who is able to reach here the soonest. I told him that I would really like PuroClean to come over based on their positive reviews. Brad was thankful and said he'd try his best and gave me a 48 hour expectation for the crew to come to my home. I called other companies too and no one could get in any sooner. Brad called later that evening saying their schedule had eased up and he would come in earlier.
From the moment they took over, I had absolute peace of mind as it was evident that their staff were honest and competent. They walked me through all possibilities, were reachable on their cell phones throughout the process, were efficient and had the same person (Garry) overseeing everything which made communication and decision making easy. Jeff visited every day and gave me updates and unfailingly asked me every time what more they could do to ease the concern for me. They did not ask me for any payment upfront, gave me an idea of the cost involved, and took my insurance information - but there was no pressure and scare tactics regarding payment expectations. In comparison, many other companies I called wanted to collect my insurance deductible or have a pre-authorized credit card transaction before they came out, even to schedule their trip out to the home.
They brought in a lot of equipment: massive dehumidifiers and fan blowers and it took almost a week to get the place fully dry. Unfortunately for me, my insurance company had a cap on such water damage. When I mentioned this to Brad, they worked with me to attempt to keep the overall tab as close as possible to the limit.
As a homeowner, I have simply not had a better experience with any type of service provider in Maryland. I hope this company expands its service offerings to cover other home issues as it becomes increasingly rare to deal with honest, reasonable and competent people who understand that the best way to grow your business is to earn every bit of a customer's satisfaction.

After one day, Brad called me back (without me having to reach back out to him), and notified me that while there wasn't any breaks in their workload, Brad himself promised to take time from his own day (mind you this is a SUNDAY) to come out and take a look at our house. He showed up on time as promised, and was extremely thorough in his evaluation of the damage caused to our basement. Brad did everything he could to get a team (Brandon and Chris) out the very next morning, again with the heavy workload being demanded from other people in the area who were experiencing flood damage. Brandon and Chris were highly efficient while still maintaining excellent workmanship and professionalism for the 4-6 hours they were in our home. They even mentioned that they would work through lunch just to get things done, knowing that we had waited a couple of days to get someone out to the house (again due to high volume of affected homes in the area)
Brad, Chris, and Brandon were in and out in a short day, and Brad followed up with us each evening thereafter to make sure that all of the equipment was working properly and also visited to monitor progress. I couldn't have been happier with the job these guys did, I would highly recommend them not only for their capability and affordability, but just for the sheer fact that you are dealing with highly professional teams who genuinely care about providing quality workmanship when terrible situations like flooding or fire/water damage occur. Definitely give these guys a call before anyone else, you won't be disappointed.

Gary and his team were very responsive and provided a full explanation of the equipment and services they provided. They explained that there was no need to remove any of the rug or padding, because we found the problem early. The equipment (dehumidifier and fans) was set up quickly and ran for several days. The services included antimicrobial treatment and a complete carpet cleaning.
We were very satisfied with the entire process and recommend them for anyone with a similar problem.
