Next time I think "how badly could a simple repair job go," I will remember the horrible experience we have had with Emerald and the importance of selecting a reputable, trustworthy, and skilled contractor.
11/29/14 Update - somehow things went from bad to worse. For the past month, Emerald has repeatedly avoided our calls, and then once we were finally able to get a hold of them, made promises to send us the check but never followed through. The worst case was when the rep agreed to meet my wife (along with our 9 month old baby) at a supermarket to hand her the check. He never showed up, and left them waiting in the freezing cold. Would not respond to any messages from her to find out where he was either. In my opinion, their behavior has been inexplicably unethical and unfair.
"I believe it was mentioned that a settlement of financial means was agreed upon and then the company never followed through on our word, even to the point of having his wife meet us. None of that sounds like the family oriented organization that I am proud to be a part of. The owner of Emerald Plumbing, is a father, brother, husband and deacon at his church, He has family ties in this area that go back for generations. He believes that if you treat people the right way, then you will be covered. I think if we felt that we were negligent all hands on deck would have been there to fix the situation. Integrity is the hands down motto that our organization lives by."
A few hours after he left the drip came back and I had to reschedule a follow up appointment through my Home Warranty Company, who advised me to call Emerald back. I called again and set up a follow-up appointment, which they set up for within a week. They apologized for the apathy of the first plumber and set up another appointment for me which they missed. I had to call them and remind them of my appointment. They then gave me a new appointment for that same day, which they were late for.
I think this company has the potential to be better, they need to work on their appointment system, punctuality and ensure that their plumbers are professional.
They came back between Easter and Mother's day 2011; we looked at this war-torn site for almost 5 months. They leveled our yard, applied grass seed and filled the broken concrete with tar. They did not push the porch back into place. Initially, the porch was about 2 inches out of place (out of alignment with the siding), but flush with the house; now, it is 2.5 to 3 inches away from the house and tilting downward. Upon approach, it looks like the haunted house with the crooked stairs. The tar applied to the broken concrete has settle in and is now a big hole, just waiting to twist someone's ankle.
My husband called Emerald and they said they would come to look, but never returned. In his attempts to send registered letters, they refused to accept them.
I tried to contact them again through their website. No response.
I have gone practically summers enduring this and trying to get them or some else to fix my porch.
The plumbing part was fine, but the aftermath is terrible.
I contacted several local plumbing companies, all of whom agreed after initial visits that the drain was "un-snakeable" and needed to be cleared by an alternative method called water jetting. The equipment required for this type of work is very large (it must be towed on a trailer behind a pickup truck) and is typically not stocked by smaller, local plumbers.
I contacted Emerald Plumbing by recommendation from another company who could not complete the job. Emerald was very responsive. They came out to my house within a day of the initial call. It took about 2 hours to clear the lines.
Service was excellent. I would definitely use this company again.
