Sean is terrific; she was prompt, friendly and enthusiastic about my project, with lots of ideas to augment some I already had in mind. I received the design sketch sooner than I anticipated and I got so excited about it I started working on it immediately, buying, digging, amending, planting, and made far more progress than I thought I would this year (thanks to Sean's friendly encouragement). I look forward to working with her on Phase II and III in the future.

Sean made good suggestions for a new design with a mixture of several different plants. She and her crew did an excellent job removing the old bushes and planting new ones.

We wanted a professional to work with to choose new plants to replace a dying tree and shrubs long past their prime. Sean listened to our objective to use plants to screen our yard from neighbors, suggested a variety of plants for us to choose from to meet our needs, and worked with us on a plan. She and her crew tore out the existing shrubbery and planted a new tree and new bushes. At our request she provided large specimens that will soon be large enough to perform their screening function. She was flexible to make changes and additions to the plan at our suggestion once the plants were on the site and we could see how they looked together. Sean was on time for every appointment. We are very pleased with the results.

Sean has a great eye and terrific ideas, such as the graceful series of hornbeam trees in our back garden, and the gorgeous rose bush in the front. She is also an excellent collaborator, always willing to hear my thoughts and incorporate them into her plans. Like all good gardeners, Sean knows how to strike a balance between the ideal of a design and the chaotic reality of plants. I have worked with her for more than six years, and she has always been thoughtful, responsive and professional. I can't recommend her enough!

It all went beautifully. Sean's team was quick and efficient. Loads of trees and bushes were cleared out and the remaining space was made much prettier by the strategic placement of plants we already owned (that needed moving) and new plants. This area, in front of our house, is Now much more inviting. We love the way it turned out.

I appreciate that Sean has lots of ideas and a depth of knowledge about plants and also allowed me to keep some areas open for my own tinkering and future planting. She was happy to do things in stages and would provide any amount of input I wanted from designing the whole thing to just adding some ideas. I ended up relying heavily on her input and am glad I did.

This was the dream installation. She actually finished slightly ahead of schedule. Great workers.
Recent rainfall was great - no problems

It was disappointing.  She looked around and said that I didn't need anything done.  She didn't give me a design.

The person was very nice and courteous but the entire thing took way too much time to set up. It took her a few weeks to return the design. In the end, she only provided me with some hand drawn sketches of my views of what was needed. She said she would give me a quote for how much it would cost and when she could start but I haven't heard back from her and its been two months.

Sean did an amazing job on a tight budget. To start she was very responsive by email and phone. It was a big help that she stopped by the house and reviewed the yard while I was at work, saving me from having to take off. She was very accommodating to my budget, as I had about half as much to spend as the original estimate. Comparing what she proposed against other landscaper estimates for the same price, Sean offered way more bang for the buck.
The work was completed in one day and Sean was flexible in receiving payment. The work was absolutely amazing. She added a beautiful mix of shrubs and flowers in a visually appealing arrangement. She also incorporated some of my existing flowers into a wonderful design. The results were dramatic and all of my neighbors complemented me on the new curb appeal.  My house sold in one day, in part because of the wonderful opening picture that the new landscaping provided.
I would definitely recommend Surla Design and plan to use them again at my new house.

We were concerned about the grading of the front lawn.  Shawn added a pipe and more drainage (see previous job).

Sean listened to my ideas and plant preferences.  She and her crew worked efficiently and hard to remove weeds (including poison ivy) from my front yard.  She selected and installed beautiful plants.  We have neighbors coming over to tell us how great everything looks.
