From beginning to end, Phil Zowd was very helpful and informative. Whenever I needed clarification, even after the roof was installed, he was responsive and answered my questions in laymen's terminology. I would definitely recommend doing business with this company.

ZHR did a fantastic job helping my husband and I prepare our house to go on to the market. They helped turn our outdated basement into a possible theater room, removing old built in cabinets and they were able to fix our damaged walls and check for possible water damage. They helped replaced dry rotted pillars and roof siding as well as providing fresh paint. It truly made a difference in the curb appeal of the house. When remodeling our bathroom they were able to provide suggestions on updated styles and colors to add to our renovated bathroom. They provided us with reasonable prices and options of companies to choose from for tile and cabinetry. The complete renovation of our bath was a completely new and fresh look. In addition they were able to replace dry rotten wood and add a new energy efficient bay doors to our kitchen. I highly recommend ZHR! The staff was friendly and easy to talk to. In the variety of projects that were completed for us ZHR was honest about options and made sure we were happy with what was being done. I will be using them again in the next month in renovating a kitchen, adding crown modeling, and fresh paint to our home.

Zowd is a great contractor to work with. After getting estimates from other contractors including one that was family, Zowds was the one closest to what I knew it should cost. They never asked about the budget till after they presented the estimate. The others asked up front and their estimates were at the top of the budget. This left no room for anything that may go wrong or for any additional work. The Addition to the house was within budget which allowed us to get the Bathroom, three bedrooms, and our office area which the previous owners built and did a botched job on redone as well. I have rehired them currently to build my garage and will rehire to finish up the rest of the house. We also had them repurpose a door into a barn door to go in the new Addition. The door turned out 100 times better then anything I could have bought. I highly recommend hireing them for any construction projects you may have or are planning. Any issues I’ve had they have been very responsive to in resolving quickly. They will be my go to contractor for all my housing construction needs.

They did a great job!!  They were here when they said they would be and the project went smoothly.  Only ran into a few minor things, but they were very helpful on making the appropriate decision on how to correct the problem.  We have been very happy with the way everything turned out.
The guys are great and they have been to my home since then to help with a frozen pipe.  They added duct work to add more heat to the crawl space and insulated the outside wall.  I now have a nice warm kitchen and don't have to worry about another frozen pipe.
I will definitely use them in the future for any other work.

We wanted to be sure that the front door was painted properly, relatively simple job but important.  Joe was great, very pleasant and knows what he is doing.  When home improvements are needed in the future, we know who we want to do it!

The installers, Phil and Brother, showed up as scheduled to install the storm door.  They discovered a problem where the door would not fit the opening properly and consulted with me.  After doing some thinking, they made the necessary adjustments to the existing surrounding door jambs then installed the storm door.  It's absolutely beautiful and I couldn't be happier.  The job took about 4 hours or so.  I have hired ZHR since 2011 to do all work on my house since they are experienced at building houses.  They have a penchant for detail and quality.  After meeting them, I've never had to seek another contractor.  They take care of most everything in this house.

Window installations went off without a hitch.  Unfortunately the beautiful storm door was about an inch too large to fit the trim of my recently installed new front steel door (Legacy) and transom.  So Mr. Zowd is taking it back to the retailer for adjustments or a new door, whichever is the best solution.  I have no worries that he will return with the perfect-fitting door.  I've worked with ZHR for the past 5 years or so and have always been satisfied with their quality of work and attention to details.  They have replaced entire roof and siding on single family home, repaired flooded basements, installed front and rear doors and 25+ windows.  I look forward to our next contract for 2 bathroom remodelings and a complete second level painting.

The estimate didn't include the tub or faucets and showerhead, but Tony was very helpful in making sure I got the right tub. He even went out of his way to pick it up and deliver it to us. Some unexpected problems with the installment added some additional costs and these problems also extended the time to finish the job.  But, everyone was very nice and professional and didn't rush to finish. It looks very nice.

Recently moved into my dream house, except the carpeting from the previous owner looked like they had barn animals living in the home.  The carpeting was disgusting, so bad that I refused to let my kids step on it.  I was frantic to get it replaced ASAP.  I was referred to Zowd Homes from a friend and they were amazing.  They gave me a very reasonable price and were able to do the job THE NEXT DAY!  When they came to replace it, they we all super nice and worked quickly and neatly.  I couldn't believe how fast they worked!  And the house now looks amazing.  Zowd Homes is the only contractor I will use in the future!

I first contracted Zowd Homes when I bought my first home in 2005, I needed new floors through out, the whole house painted, and the entry way which they completed way ahead of my move in deadline. This included a custom Mickey Mouse bedroom! Soon after came the 100 square foot shed built onsite!  I was impressed, so I also had them build a deck out back.  In 2008 I had both bathrooms remodeled for way less than I could have imagined.  That same year we had bad storms that caused a tree branch to fall on the corner of the house, which they repaired ASAP, they were here the next day.  In 2010, they installed all new windows and front and back doors--they brought an entire crew and had it done in one day.  Then Hurricane Sandy caused an even bigger tree branch to fall on the house, again they treated it as an emergency and sent Joe the very next morning--early to beat the expected rain.  Our house would have flooded that night in the storms had he not patched it that day.  My most recent job with Zowd Homes was March of 2013 to power-wash the entire house and both front and back decks which was completed in 2 days.  All in all, I am very satisfied with their work and recommend them to all family and friends.  They have competitive pricing, and always complete exactly what I envisioned.  I will continue to contact Zowd Homes for future projects.

Dealing with Zowd Homes and Restoration Inc was a complete
nightmare. A two week job dragged out for over 10 weeks. Nothing was ever
cleaned up; they left the site with the toilet leaking all over the new floor.
Grit and cement pieces tracked all over our hardwood floors, windows left open
with air conditioning on. The main floor shower leaked into the basement on two
separate occasions when it was supposed to be finished. Zowd was notorious for trying
to take shortcuts on everything from prep work, clean-up, installing trim, and
painting. We got to the point that we would not leave them alone in our house
and we would inspect everything they did after the shortcuts we experienced. We
questioned them as to why they did not paint or install base trim in a corner
of the bathroom, they said the ?vanity will hide it? . . . we went on
contractor forum sites and everyone said that was wrong that the whole room
should be painted and trimmed regardless. By the way, if you want your door
painted by ZOWD you?ll need to instruct them to paint both sides or they?ll
only paint one side of the door. Like I said any shortcuts they can take they
take. The window trim they installed is literally even with the wall, they
finished the wall/trim by smearing joint compound to be level with the final
window trim. They really wore us down we just gave up and accepted it the way
it was and will get it fixed by someone that knows trim carpentry. The linen
closet door still won't close right. We have a list of everything that is still
wrong, but in order to avoid other disasters and just us wasting our time
knowing they have no idea how to correctly fix their poor workmanship, we just
decided to close out the contract. There is still no trim in the upstairs bath
in back of the vanity even though the vanity is on legs and you can see a
sloppily painted line that I guess is supposed to represent trim? We are going
to put the trim up ourselves and make the necessary repairs ourselves.
We would not recommend these people to anyone unless they
were having something demolished. They are jacks of all trade and definitely
not masters of carpentry, finished trim, plumbing, and clean up ? a drop cloth
is a foreign concept to ZOWD workers who have little to no respect for your
hardwood floors or carpets. They started on June 13th and besides a week's
vacation we already had planned was over 10 weeks to get a poor workmanship,
low quality  job that was supposed to be
done in 2 weeks.
We are very disappointed in the referrals from Angie's List and would
definitely NOT recommend ZOWD for any remodeling project.

"In response to the (member name removed) review, we take great pride in our company and workmanship. We are a family owned and operated business, We put our name on the company because we back what we do. Please look at all the other review's we have received and you can see that. We also have pages of referrals that we can provide upon request. The contract was for $12,282 + there was a Time and material part of the quote. The (member name removed) never paid for any of the time portion, they never paid for material we picked up on there behalf nor did they pay for the extras that we performed. The statements they made are made up & fabricated. There goal was to get us tied into a contract then find every way possible not to pay for the work. I feel sorry for any contractor that does work for them in the future. The only reason they left a review on here was to hurt our name, Just spiteful. They stated that they got us off Angie's list which is not true, A friend of their's another client of ours recommended us to them. We still do work for the friend and have a excellent relationship with them to this day. As I said before I can pretty much go line by line from there statement and it is all made up. We do clean up after ourselves, We did not delay the finish, they did. They bought discounted faucets where the boxes had been open and parts missing and tried to get us to use them, when we explained this they would not take that as a reason. we had been contracted to do the two bathrooms and the kitchen floor but in there minds if the room connected to another room like through a door you are suppose to paint that room as well, Just not realistic. Very un-trust worthy people to work for we even caught them going through our lunch boxes at one point. The nightmare was ours trying to deal with them. We did finish the job and then some. It's very unfortunate that it had to come to this when we did everything possible to make them happy, But sometimes no matter what you do it comes down to people just trying to get out of paying you. If anyone has questions about this review we would be happy to answer them."

We called Zowd to check out some leaks after the storms brought in by Hurricane Sandy.  They came out and determined that incorrect flashing and installation were letting in water.  They scheduled immediately and came out and fixed everything.  Looks great and leaks no more.  Really happy with the rates charged and the responsiveness of this company.  Planning to use them again.

Overall, working with Zowd Homes & Restoration, Inc. was a wonderful experience.  This is a family owned business with more than 100 years of experience between the dad, 2 grown sons, uncle, and cousins.  I first met with front man Tony Zowd for an interview.  He actually showed up a little before our scheduled time.  [I was impressed.]   I went through a whole list of tasks and Tony explained how he'd address each one.  He was very knowledgeable about construction and home repairs and had a great demeanor.  [Again, I was impressed.]  He didn't suggest short-cuts, just solutions that would fix the problems.  Of the 4 contractors I interviewed, I felt most comfortable with Zowd.  The solutions were on spot, and his personality was likable.  I was told work would start on Nov. 7 because they were working on two other jobs at the time, but work actually started about 2 weeks earlier because they became available.  Hurricane Irene left 3 inches of water in my unfinished basement and soaked the insulation.  Zowd removed that mess, then applied Drilock on the walls and some new insulation.  They even repaired a leaky pipe that a 'handyman' had earlier fixed for me.  [This was not in the contract.]  On the upper levels they repaired drywall ceilings and walls that were either wet from Hurricane Irene or damaged by other means.  Zowd wrapped the exterior of each of the 22 windows on the home.  Four of the windows had frames that were so rotted that they could not be wrapped and so recommended the windows be replaced.  I did so with Simonton brand windows.  I replaced a 5th window in the basement for security purposes.  Zowd also installed a new Provia Legacy series steel entry front door with full glass sidelites and transom.  It's absolutely beautiful.  The way they cut out that existing door and slipped in the new door----simply marvelous.  My foyer and first level feels so much warmer now since there are no longer any drafts from the door.  There is nothing this team cannot do with quality.  Even neighbors driving by actually slowed to watch them work and check out the beautifully wrapped windows.  Did I mention they painted the shutters to match the new door--absolutely beautiful.  My contract was originally costed at about $13K, but when I added 5 windows and other touch-up work (time and materials) around the house, the contract ended at about $18K.  I plan to use Zowd for as long as they are in business and I own a home.   You should, too!

I initially contacted Zowd Homes and Restoration to repair some damaged siding. Tony Zowd was responsive to my inquiry, and he showed up to perform the estimate on time.  While looking at the siding, I asked about the possibly of also getting an estimate for replacing our back patio door and painting our chimneys. He was extremely agreeable and very flexible regarding my additional request.

After deciding that we would go with Zowd for our projects, Tony set up a time to meet, sign the paperwork, and pick up a deposit. On the day of the appointment, I received a phone call that Tony would be unable to make it. I waited for a stream of excuses, but the man who called me told me that he would be coming to the house in place of Tony to keep the appointment. This turned out to be Phil Zowd, Tony's father and the founder of the business.  He went over the paperwork with me in a clear and straightforward manner. We also talked at length about several other problems I have had with the house and he offered a number of suggestions and possible solutions. I never once felt like he was trying to sell me something I didn't ask for, nor did he ever try to take advantage of my lack of knowledge regarding home repairs.

We discussed a leak in the front of my kitchen that could not be fixed by 4 previous contractors. Phil had several ideas for how to fix the leak, and so we added this task to the list of projects.

The work was scheduled and completed on time. When there were some unexpected difficulties in finding the appropriate siding to replace what was removed, the Zowds always kept me informed of the process. I never wondered if or when they were going to show up. The siding work looks great. The new door is so much better than I ever expected. And, most amazingly, the leak in my kitchen appears to be fixed. Finally!  And Phil assured me that if it leaks again in the future, to contact him right away because he hates to be wrong. :)

Long story short, working with Zowd Homes and Restoration has renewed my faith in professional home improvement. Phil, Tony, and Joe Zowd and the other gentlemen on their crew were a pleasure to work with. I will not hesitate to call them for any additional work I will have done to my house.
