We got the original quote to remodel our master bathroom from Tim Whiteman of Tilemasters, who has recently begun working together with Jeff Louis from Kaso Construction, LLC in Sykesville MD. Jeff did all of the demo, framing, and installation of everything other the tile (done by Tilemasters, although Jeff also does tile himself) and shower glass (done by a separate glass company). They provided us with a bid within a couple days of contacting them and were able to start the job within a week. They kept closely to the original estimate, both in terms of cost and time to complete the job. Jeff was very flexible in terms of working with us for start and end times in our busy household with three kids, school, preschool, activities, etc, and we were completely comfortable giving him a key to our home to work while we were out. Jeff is a hard worker who routinely put in 10+ hour days to get the job done on time. He worked unobtrusively, heading into the master bathroom and working for hours on end with the door closed, kept the mess contained, and cleaned/tidied up the work site at the end of each day. He was a pleasure to interact with. (One of our kids even said today that she would miss him!) He communicated well with us, accommodating changes from our original plan (for example, a change from an existing framed shelf to building a new half-wall between the shower and roman rub) and delays in our parts arriving (we bought all parts ourselves and had a delay in both the vanity and the hardware arriving), and letting us know when he thought we were making a bad decision (for example, mounting a new light above the vanity facing up as shown in the picture, which would have left our vanity counter poorly lit). When the project required modifications (for example, the mirrored medicine cabinets we had ordered online from all the way across the country were much too deep to use simply mounted on the wall as intended with the vanity we had chosen), he happily accommodated those changes (recessed the cabinets, even though they hadn't truly been designed to recess, and did the necessary unanticipated work in the wall to accomplish this at a reasonable price). We are really pleased with the finished bathroom. It looks great, is so much more functional than our original bathroom, and was accomplished at a very fair price relatively quickly. Our only suggestion to Jeff for improvement would be to confirm the desire of the homeowner with regard to the outgoing parts before starting demo. We had planned to donate our vanity--which was a contractor-grade, nothing fancy 60" vanity that nonetheless still had enough life in it that someone could have used it...after all we had been using it as it was for 10+ years!--to a local place called Second Chance that helps to build and refurbish homes in low-income areas. This was communicated to Tim from Tilemasters, but didn't apparently get relayed to Jeff in time, so the cabinets were lost in the demo process. We have previously used numerous other contractors for both major jobs--putting in a completely new full bathroom in our basement and doing a complete renovation of our kitchen--as well as for a variety of more minor jobs such as installing new patio doors and painting. All in all, we have to say that Jeff is by far the best contractor we have ever used in every sense. Whether it's reliability, quality of work, price: value ratio, honesty, communication, flexibility, or friendliness, Jeff has everyone we have ever used in the past beat hands down, and unless his price was excessive, I don't think we would likely use any contractor other than Jeff for work in the future. We thought about keeping him all for ourselves, but we decided that wouldn't be very nice for Angie's List or for him! :)
Description of Work: Complete remodel of our master bathroom, including demo, framing, installation of new lights, new toilet, new vanity, new plumbing hardware, and new recessed medicine cabinets, as well as installation of new tile on floor, shower walls, and tub surround (tiledone by Tim Whiteman from Tilemasters). We did the painting ourselves to save a little money since we enjoy painting.
