Please stay away from them, I bought a new HVAC system (heating and cooling) back in NOV 2023. The heat is works well but just turn on the air-conditioning two days ago because is starting to be hot. But the New air-conditioning doesn't work less than 20 minutes. Call them and need a part but will take 7-10 days to comes in. They want me to pay for the expedite shipping. Is a new system, why it goes wrong in the first place? Never used and already broke, did they sell me the lemon system? And is hot and I can't sleep all night, they never provide a temporary service to help me. Stay way!
Response from Charles A Klein & Sons
"We are sorry the compressor failed but please understand we are not the manufacture. As with any appliance there can be a failure that's the whole reason the Manufacture provides a warranty. Also we are paying for the expedited shipping. As far as the above rating, We were quick to get this unit installed, There were no issues with the install. This system was massively discounted because of the realtor they used has a business relation ship with us. Also they had no issue's until the a part that we have no control over failed. Then it's our fault the part has to come from the factory."

We have a custom home and Charles Klein did all of the HVAC work. recently we had no heat on a cold day (10/2018) and we called Klein. The tech came to the home, noted there was a bird in an intake that had blocked the unit, causing the fail safe to shut it down. During the process of the repair, he cracked a part on the unit (which we witnessed). He noted that he did damage the part, he would tell his boss, and they would repair it. He put it back together and told us the furnace would work but might leak water onto the floor. If it did, we were to call him. The next day there was water leaking, and the unit had to be turned off. We called first thing in the morning to ask the tech to come back. He did, and said that a new part was needed, but we should 'be prepared' to be charged for the part. We were not called about the part until the end of the day - it was now Friday, and they could not order it until Monday. We then spoke to the manager, who said that the furnace had overheated because the bird was obstructing and had caused that furnace part to become brittle, so it was not their fault that the part had broken. We witnessed the tech being very tough on the part and breaking it. Once we reluctantly agreed to pay for the part (it was a cold week and we needed heat), we had to call multiple times to get the part ordered and subsequently come and install it. So once the tech broke our unit, it took more than a week to have it working again. They did not feel they were liable for the damage they caused. The part was $600 to repair. They took over a week to restore heat to our home. Again, the tech CLEARLY STATED that he cracked the part. Wow. Never again.

Diagnosed the issues of the HVACs and repaired one of them. Didn't repair the other one since it was hardly used. They replaced a part and fixed the issue. They didn't exaggerate the problem or overcharge me. I was very pleased with their service.

I got talked to several HVAC contractors before selecting CA Klein. They participate in BGE's SmartEnergy program. The design they proposed made the most sense and the price was good. It was easy to set up a time to do the work and coordinate it with other work I was having done on my house. They showed up on time, made sure I knew where they needed to cut holes or remove woodwork, and were careful to do as little damage as possible and work neatly. They also ordered a special allergen filter for me. Each person working in my house was professional and pleasant to have around, so they must take care with whom they hire. They got the whole job done in less than three days. I've only been running the heat for a short time, but so far I'm very pleased with the system. I was concerned before talking to them based on some negative Angie's List reviews, but my experience was very positive.

They're wonderful. They're top notch and I would use them again. They rectified a problem that happened because they brought the wrong unit. Took it to my 3rd-floor closet and installed it. Then when it was discovered that it was the wrong unit. They came back and replaced it with the right unit. I thought that was very standup of them. They were good. They gave me the right stuff for the right price. They were all "A"s.

They are very thorough. The work took about three hours and he cleaned up great after himself. He was very courteous and friendly. Went above and beyond until the problem was solved.

I used Charles A Klein & Sons because they were listed as the subcontractor my home builder used for construction of the house. The house is 3 years old and I've already had to call them several times for various plumbing and HVAC problems. Their customer service rep (Joanne) is horrible. She always sounds annoyed that someone is calling. That's probably why every time I call, once I go through their automated answering service and get transferred to her line... it goes directly to voicemail. That may be fine, but when 2 hours goes by and you have not received a call back, that's poor service. If you do not make repeated calls to them... you will be ignored. When they do arrive, they are expensive! I had a valve replaced on the 3 year old condenser. The $100 part was covered under warranty. However, the install was a flat rate of $650. For that price I assumed this would be a very long process. The technician showed up and was finished and gone in under 2 hours. $325/hr is outrageous. I currently have an issue with my hot water heater. Called them 2 hours ago. I have not hear back. I'm done with them.

"We were hired by an Energy Efficiency Contractor to install new Heat pump system in the Masson residence in November of 2013. In May The [member name removed]s called our office to report a problem and we had a service technician out look over the unit with in 24 hrs. Unfortunately at that appointment our technician made a mistake resulting in the issue described in the review. Once Ms. [member name removed] notified us of a potential problem we responded, identified the issue and repaired it. Realizing what occurred The [member name removed]s provided us with copies of their utility bills, a reimbursement was calculated for the overages they encored and a refund was provided to them. The party that hired us was communicated with and kept up to speed on the progress and problems the entire time and is happy with our decisions and responses to The [member name removed] household. We regret any inconvenience to our customer and to The [member name removed]s but feel we handled the situation promptly and correctly."

"Unfortunately we have no record of contact or attempted contact from the [member name removed] since 2009. Regretfully we did not get any messages for we would have responded immediately to the request for service. As for the leak, problems with the tile, subfloor issues or 8 years of use can cause a leak and for those reasons we do not feel as if our quality of work is subpar nor that this issue is fault of Charles A Klein and Sons."

I had 2 units installed in my home by Charles Klein and sons when my house was built.
They have been nothing but trouble. On 1 unit, I was having air flow issues. I called another company because I was tired of using Charles Klein and sons (after about 3 years of using Klein). They found my problem in 5 minutes. When Klein installed my unit, the installer left the instruction packet on the exhaust side of the air handler. This was blocking about 80% of the air flow out of the fan. As soon as this technician removed the instruction packet, the difference was huge.
Now for the real problem (as if that other unit wasn't bad enough). The unit for my top floor has been problematic since day 1. Various problems throughout the year(s). Both the furnace and A/C.
In the coldest days of the winter the unit would stop functioning because the drain would freeze. The A/C has had to be serviced every year for one problem or another. (Fast forward a couple of years and I discover that the unit was far too small for my space). So every year for the first few years I had Klein out to diagnose why my upstairs is so warm.
One year they discovered that some part (a piston of some sort) was the wrong part and that is why my upstairs unit could not cool adequately. They said that they needed a couple of days to get the right part. They proceeded to disable my A/C while waiting for the part to come in. My A/C had been "working" with this incorrect part for 3 years. I don't know that 2-3 days would make a difference. This was in the dead of summer. (Late July). When my wife called to complain about them shutting down the A/C, Michael Klein proceeded to yell and curse at my wife, claimed it wasn't their fault because the builder forced them to use cheap units and hung up on her. When I called back (I admit, I was super hot) he had a different tone. He seems to be a bully to women and more cordial to men. When I told Michael that the builder didn't force them to bid on this project (a 100 home development). They bid and won the bid. So they decided to proceed. In my development the houses range from 2000sq ft - 4300 sq. ft.. My house is 4300 sq. ft. They installed the same units on all of the homes. So my upstairs unit, was the same size as the homes that were half the size.
Here is a last situation where I have a huge issue.
On many of those service calls, Klein would send out 1 technician and 1 apprentice (typically a HS age kid). The apprentice was actually more of a hindrance since the tech would go slowly and explain what he was doing. They bill hourly, see where this is going? Here is where it gets really bad. When they were done (done nothing as the actual reason the unit couldn't cool was because it was too small) they would bill me for 2 employees at the same rate. This was suspect since the apprentice provided no value to me and actually slowed the process down. Why should I pay for his education? Even if I were to pay for the apprentice, his rate should not be the same rate as an experienced technician.
Because of their shoddy work, suspect billing and Michael Klein's terrible attitude, stay away.

This contractor was recommended from High Performance Home. I worked with Carl at Charles A. Klein who met with us to evaluate the project and give recommendations on what would work well with our house. He was friendly and knowledgeable. We decided on the Trane Air Conditioner and Gas Furnace.
On the day of installation the group of workers arrived on time and did a good job. A few days later, I heard a faint noise when the air conditioner compressor unit would turn on. I went outside to the unit, but it was hard to tell from there. I thought that there may have been a problem with the unit so called up to have someone come look at it. They were quick to respond and troubleshot it to one of the ceiling vents. I was a little apprehensive, but sure enough we tightened up the screws on the vent and the noise went away. I haven't had any problems since and am happy with my selection.

I was previously unhappy with them because every winter, we get a leak on the furnace and they have been out numerous times and it does not ever get fixed, however, at this time, they sent Gary and Gary figured out that the problem was that there were stink bugs stuck in the trap of the vapor exhaust from the furnace and in addition to having Klein out here, we had other companies out as well to figure it out, so I would like to give them A+. I am very pleased at this stage because previously I was not pleased. He was very knowledgeable and very thorough unlike the other people who came in here, they were all dealing with the vapor line freezing in the winter and they thought that the line was freezing and needed installation, this guy looked on this and I said I have never seen a vapor line insulated because the stuff coming out is warm. All the other guys did not look beyond their nose and this guy was able to figure it out and knew that there was some reason that the water in the tube was freezing and the reason for that it was backing up before got up into the tube that went out the attic. I think he was just more experienced and knowledgeable. He also had a very pleasant and helpful demeanor and was also recognizing that he had been out here three times before and had not solved this problem, so he was very conciliatory and very pleasant. I would have that guy back in a heartbeat. I thought their prices were reasonable and comparable. He took time to call my husband and explained him the situation.

Last year in the fall, this company installed a new heat pump for my home. (I was working with a contractor and they wanted me to work with Charles A. Klein for the HVAC portion of the work.) There were problems from the start. Charles A. Klein's rep. (Carl) suggested adding a small pipe/hose in the back of a closet, but then ended up installing a huge one, rendering the closet completely useless as a closet. Oh well. I chalked it up to the fact that I may have misunderstood, but I know he never told me it would be 12+ inches in diameter, taking up half the closet.
Within days or weeks, we went away for 3 days with the thermostat set to 60 degrees so the heat would come on only if it got below 60 degrees. When we returned, the house was extremely hot. The granite countertops were hot to the touch! The thermostat had gone crazy and could not be turned off. I called Charles A. Klein's emergency number immediately, and explained the situation and was told someone would call back. No one did. I waited all night, and no one from Charles A. Klein ever called to respond to the emergency. The thermostat could not be turned off, so we had to turn off the circuit breaker to the HVAC so we didn't boil, and we opened all the windows to try to get the heat out of the house, which took a long time. It was astonishing. I called the company again the next day. (In the mean time, the contractor that I had worked with that recommended I use Charles A. Klein for the HVAC contacted Carl to express his concern that the installation was done poorly and that no one had contacted me during this emergency. He asked Carl to contact me immediately. I did not hear from Carl for a number of days.) In the mean time, it turns out that the thermostat had been installed incorrectly (two wires were connected to the wrong portals). But I had to take off work on two different days to have this situation remedied. And their response time and their customer service response was horrible.
Now, this spring, they contacted me to schedule my spring maintenance checkup. We scheduled it for a four hour (8 a.m. - 12 noon) window for 5/25. I waited at home during that time, and no one showed up. I called Charles A. Klein at 11:30 a.m. and it went to their voice mail, so I left a message asking the status and saying that I was waiting for a service tech. I got no call back from the office. At 2 p.m. that afternoon (2 p.m.!!!), I got a call from the service tech stating he was heading to my home, and I explained I was no longer there because I was told it would be between 8 a.m. - 12 noon and even called the office. He was apologetic and told me that he had been involved in a tough job at another site and that he had let the office know that he was running late, and they should have called me. He said he would contact the office immediately and have them contact me to reschedule, and here it is, 12 days later, and I have heard NOTHING from Charles A. Klein.
The lack of customer service from Charles A. Klein has frankly been astonishing. I would definitely NOT recommend them. I spent a LOT of money on a new HVAC system from them, and I have no confidence in their work or their customer service. It's difficult for me to say that, because I wanted to give them a chance, but it just has not gone well. I'm a fair person, and I have repeatedly been disappointed by them. I'm sure there are some good people there, but it's not translating to good care of customers, unfortunately.

.They were very responsive, and their service department is very experienced. They had pictures of the installation on the computer so they could guide me to try and find specific parts. They sent someone quickly on a holiday week and they were just really good.

They came out to service and tried to upsell a number of items (furnace, air coil, etc) - just wanted to get teh new unit on place. They didn't get back to us wit ha quote for 72 hours and then would be another 72 hours before they would install (in 90 degree heat wave. They didn't seem interested in getting the job done or care about our situation. Had to go to another company to ge the new unit installed. Also, Charles Klein didn't reurn phone calls or left on hold for unreasonabl time. Lousy service and people that don't care.
Response from Charles A Klein & Sons
"We responded to the homeowners call 7/6/11 and had a tech to his home within 24 hrs 7/7/11. Our tech found the compressor to be grounded. We then called the manufacture to check on the compressor availability which was not readily available, a price to replace the system was provided to this customer since an immediate repair was not an option nor would it have been the most cost effective resolution to the problem. We would like to note this call was during the July heat wave when the demand for service and estimates was at it's peak."

A/C was not working during initial heat wave. Part (capacitor) was ordered. Incorrect part was sent to the company. Took 1.5 weeks to fix. Technician was great. Telephone customer service was not -- phone constantly went to voicemail and they were late in returning calls and relaying status.

I would not use them again. One of our heating systems did not work and we called them for emergency service and all day long I would continue to get a call saying they were on their way. This lasted for 6 hours and no one showed up after the appointed time. They then called and said another technician would take over. No one showed up and then they came the next day. It appeared to me they did a Band-Aid fix to get the system to the through the warranty period and the same problem occurred the previous winter and that’s why it appeared to me to be a Band-Aid fix because if it had been fixed properly it wouldn’t be continuing to happen each winter.
Response from Charles A Klein & Sons
"The homeowner called about attic system leaking water on 1/23/11 which we responded to the service with a technician the same day. The leak was temporarily repaired and the homeowner was informed we would return with the appropriate parts to permanently repair the problem. The home was rescheduled and due to circumstances beyond anyone's control the service appointment had to be reassigned to a separate technician due to a personal emergency. We as a company did everything we could to keep the appointment we had made with as little inconvenience to the homeowner as possible, at the time of the follow up appointment the correct part was install and the leak was fixed. Please note this home was never left without heat."
