The move was terrific! Two men arrived on time and they started right to work. We were not moving all of the furniture just selected pieces. They moved the furniture with great care. I was impressed with how careful and quickly everything went. We were treated great and before you knew it we had all the furniture where it need to go. i would recommend Thompson's moving to anyone and we will call them again when we need furniture moved. Jamie who coordinated the move was great as well!

This is the second time I used them. The first move was only a year ago and went well. So they were the first choice this time. I spoke to the office and made the appointment. I told them of all the pieces that I needed to move. I made the appointment and we set the date and the time. They text messaged me at 10:45pm the day before asking if we could do the move at 9am. I saw this text when I woke the next morning and confirmed this time. I then received a phone call at 8:40am telling me that the crew was there and waiting for me. I arrived to only two men, the third had not yet arrived, and began to discuss with the lead man Mark about the scope of work. When I discussed the piano with him he told me and quot;know one told me about a piano and I don't have the dolly to move it.and quot; I told him he needed to call someone to get the dolly there. About an hour later someone did arrive with it.
When I set up the appointment and discussed with them everything I needed, they suggested I take the three man crew. and quot;It costs just a bit more but it moves fasterand quot;. I found this to not be very true. The lead man I found standing out in the truck on more than one occasion waiting for the other two to come back and take another load. Two of the men were very professional, helpful, and moving non stop. The lead man was cursing, complaining, and taking his time.
When it came time to settle up the bill, the travel time and hours on site just didn't add up. The move was 3 hours to the minute. However, even though the travel time from Forest Hill to Abingdon is 15-20 minutes they wanted to hit me for a full charge. When I said that the time was wrong I was told that they have a 4 hour minimum on Saturdays. This was the first I was told this. The amount at question was $130-150. I paid the amount they requested even though they were not at all right.
So, they showed up unprepared, weren't very professional, and then jacked up the cost at the end. I won't be using them again.

The three man crew arrived at our old house at the time we agreed upon. They immediately did a walkthrough to see what needed to be moved. They had us completely packed onto the truck in 4 hours. After they arrived at the new house, they unloaded into the specified rooms. We were fiinished in 10 hours including travel time. So far we have not found a single broken item. This is the second time we have used Thompson. I have nothing but great things to say about this company.

Overall, it was a very good experience. They were easy to work with, very prompt – arriving exactly when expected, wrapped everything well, and handled everything with care. The movers themselves were very professional and helpful. The only issue I had was that I sometimes found it difficult to get in touch with office personnel before I had my contract.
I was grateful that Tom was so accommodating during my move. For four days I did not have a residence, and they were able to store it in a truck until I could take ownership of my new home. I would highly recommend Thompson Moving for both short and long-term moves.

The two men arrived on time and began to quickly start loading the truck. The job took much longer than I expected, thus a higher cost, since I under estimated the amount of boxes and furniture I would be storing, but they were careful with my belongings, accomodated some special requests, and avoided scraping the the walls/stairs. The men worked continuously, not even taking time for lunch, though I offered to get some for them. The cost of the project was exactly what we agreed upon, however, since it was based on an hourly rate. I was pleased with the professionalism and service overall. I'd recommend them to others and use them again.

They were really great; they knew their job and they very organized. They went the extra mile for me to make sure they were done on time, so they actually got help from another group of their movers that were moving someone else in that was not on that much of a time crunch as I was. They were able to get my move done as they scheduled.

Overall, the experience was very good. They handled and moved our delicate baby grand piano very well into storage. They wrapped each piece of furniture and protected everything pretty well. I was pleased with the owner, the workers and how they took their time in moving everything ensuring the house and furniture wasn't damaged in the process. Everything was coordinated and they were extremely easy to do business with. I will be using them again when I move my stuff from storage into our new house.

The moving crew of four men arrived on time, and did a quick walk through, then immediately started loading the van. Since they were the experts, I asked them to pack my electronics and glass table tops. They worked almost non-stop until the van was packed. Along the way, they occasionally asked me questions, but mostly just loaded my goods into the van. When they arrived at my new home, the crew started unpacking the van and moving the furniture and boxes into the house. They reassembled the furniture and placed it exactly where I wanted it, even when I changed my mind. They finished several hours sooner than estimated, but the best surprise was that the cost was lower than estimated. The crew worked so hard and was so pleasant. For a moving experience, it was probably as good as it gets. Kudos to everyone I dealt with at Thompson's Movers.

Easily perfomed this task in one day. Team was on-time, and furniture was broken down, moved, and re-setup with no issues and no damage. Now the big negative: Promised to "buy back" used boxes after we unpacked and provide a minor cost discount. Vendor never returned my call and boxes never cashed in, and hasd to go to recycling. so, once the party was over, they "turned into a pumpkin".

I hired them for two hours of moving locally. They arrived at arranged time. They took the furniture out quickly, efficiently, and without damage. I followed them to my son's house where they moved it in. No problems at that end either. They also relocated furniture within each house as requested to make each room look finished.

They were good and nothing was broken or damaged. They are a local company and they were quick to respond which prompted me to choose them. Professionally they seem to have more of younger staff. I will be using them in the future.

Some parts requred to put furniture back together were lost. Some scraping of floor getting off elevator.
Moving is always hard. These teams did listen and respect our wishes, so I would give them another try.

They are wonderful! They will come to do as small or large of a job as you wish. They have helped me rearrange one room as well as move furniture to a storage unit. They are very reasonable and show up on time. They give you an exact time instead of within a certain time frame. They are very efficient and timely. They are also very courteous. It was very difficult to find a company that would do something as small as rearranging furniture within a room but they are more than willing to do so. They are the only company in my area that I found that will do that for me.

As of the moving date, they still had not returned with an estimate. The driver was sent to the wrong county. Upon arrival (2-3 hours late), the driver informed me they had sent only the driver and he was unaware of any packing to be done. When we called their office, I was told they had forgotten about my request for two movers, packing, and my description of my medical condition. They would not reschedule even though the driver was not equipped for the move. The driver had one box in the truck, which had broken dishes in it. He kept loading it; bringing it to the truck; and returning with the same box to reload. After about 2/3 of my property was loaded, I instructed him not to load any more as he had dropped my property several times and I feared further damage. The superintendent, landlord, and neighbors offered to assist by fedexing what they could. Some of my property was fedexed. I returned the next day by Amtrak to pick up what I could, which was limited. Some of my property was left behind. When my property was delivered to my new apartment, since it was not boxed, it was left in piles on the floor throughout the apartment. Two days later, I received a call from Thompsons asking when and how they were going to get paid their $1,200.00. I explained that was the first time I heard the figure $1200.00. I also explained I was not satisfied and first wanted to get advice on how to handle this. Thompsons hung up. I eventually discovered they simply charged my debit account $1,000.00. When I called my bank. they indicated a procedure I could not possibly handle due to my medical condition. Further note an auto is necessary to commute in the area I located to. I do not drive due to my neurological condition.

Thompson's was recommended by the self-storage company when I could not find a mover in a pinch. I called and the office confirmed that they could help me. They were very courteous and gave good information. I booked them for the move. On moving day the truck was 20 minutes late. Not a big deal. The employees were very courteous and took extra care with the furnishings. Things were well-protected as they went out the door. It was a very hot day and the building elevator was moving very slowly. Since I had packed the apartment thoroughly, I had estimated we could get the three small rooms of furniture and pre-packed boxes out and into nearby storage in 3-4 hours. It took 6, which I thought was way too long. On the flip side, I would rather not have had people moving too fast and damaging my things.

We move from a townhouse into a single family home. The movers were on time and moved very quickly. They were careful with our things, but did not bring a big enough truck so they had to make two trips, fortunately our new home was only 10 minutes away. Our main complaint is that they did not move two lawnmowers and two garden benches after being told to do so, I did not realize they hadn't loaded them until after they left with the second load and I stayed back to clean. It was a very hot day and it was 4:00 by the time they took the second load but I do believe they deliberately left them behind. I had to get a friend with a pick up to come by and move the items for us before our new buyers did their walk through

These movers were EXCELLENT. From my first contact with the woman who answered the phone, to the end of a long, hard day of moving, these movers were pleasant, professional, responsive to our requests, competent, and thorough. Anyone who has moved knows how stessful it is. This crew was so pleasant all day, smiling and cheerful, in spite of the oppressive heat and humidity, that it was difficult for my husband and I to stay grumpy. It's great to see a company with an old fashioned work ethic and integrity. THANK YOU, Thompsons moving and to crew chief Al and each member of his crew!
