Handyman Service
I received Chris' contact information from another company who was doing work at my house. I was disturbed that there were no recent reviews on Angie's List, but figured there was no harm talking to him.
I read my "honey-do" list over the phone to Chris and he said he'd come out and give me a free estimate. He happened to be available the next day, so he came over and we walked through the list. I found him to be very honest and methodical. He really looked at each job, thought about it and gave me prices for each task. He told me that he wasn't the fastest or the cheapest but he always did the job right and stood behind his work.
I normally get a minimum of 3 estimates for any work, but I really felt like Chris was the right choice. I'm sure that I could have found someone to do it cheaper - but you get what you pay for. The crack was in my bedroom ceiling, so it's something that really bugged me and I wanted it fixed right.
I had read about the appropriate way to do the repair and watched YouTube videos. This was how I decided that I needed to hire someone since it looked sufficiently easy for me to screw it up. It also gave me some background so that I could evaluate Chris' description of how he would make the repair.
When Chris pulled the buckling tape away he found a large settlement crack. The previous repair (before I bought the house) likely was an attempt to fix this. He told me that if he used regular joint compound that the crack would eventually return. He wanted to use a compound that had some elasticity. He didn't have any on his truck but he stood by the need and even though he had to go across town to get it, he stood by his original estimate of $300.
He had to put several layers on and let them dry, so he was here several times and put in more hours than he had anticipated. When it came time for me to pay him, I offered an extra $100 because he did the right thing and put in extra hours. He didn't have to tell me about the settlement crack or that regular joint compound would just crack again sooner rather than later. Even though it was more than I wanted to pay for the job, I didn't feel that he should have to take the time (and money) hit because he was honest.
I will definitely call him again for other projects and feel confident referring him to friends, family and all Angie's List readers. I think he is quite a rare man these days; when there are so many people out there who either try to rip you off with high prices or shoddy work, it is a pleasure to find such an honest, humble, hard working man.

AVERAGE. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO REACH CHRIS. HE HAD TO RETURN TOO MANY TIMES TO COMPLETE THE LIST OF JOBS. HE WAS SLOW AND CHARGED US $55/HOUR. THE CHIMNEY STILL LEAKED AND HE RETURNED TO FIX IT. HE WAS VERY PLEASANT AND PROFESSIONAL TO WORK WITH.

They didn't respond to my call for three days. By that time I had already contracted with somebody else.

THIS HANDYMAN WAS RECOMMENDED BY A FRIEND AND HE DID A WONDERFUL JOB. IT WAS NOT A LARGE JOB AND WE HAD A HARD TIME GETTING ANYONE TO CALL US BACK. HE WAS NOT SCHEDULED TO COME FOR A FEW DAYS BUT HE HAD A CANCELLATION AND CAME EARLY. HE CHARGES BY THE HOUR AND OF COURSE THE CONCERN IS IF HE WILL WORK QUICKLY BUT HE DID. HE WAS DONE IS LESS THAN AN HOUR! VERY NICE GENTLEMAN.
