Jim was very helpful in determining the approach to take to repair and replace the porch components that needed work. He had a lot of good ideas, but respected our choices (another contractor we talked with kept pushing for changes we didn't want). To get the style we previously had, he worked with a nearby sawmill to have our railing custom milled. He also suggested we go with Mahogany for the railings and spindles, since it would hold up much better than regular pine. The price difference was negligible. The end result is what we wanted and should last a long time. Once we settled on what was to be done, we had a quote the following day. We scheduled the work to be done. It took parts of 4 days to complete everything. Jim was prompt and very professional. He was neat and orderly. He placed tarps or drop cloths under his saw to keep debris from ending up in our grass. At the end of each day everything was put away, materials were neatly stacked. He used a blower to clear the walk and work area as well. The other thing we appreciated was his attention to detail. He knocked off the sharp edges from the flooring boards with his sander. He took time and effort to add small pieces of trim to cover areas that were previously left exposed by the prior builder. We had some settling between the bottom porch step and the concrete walkway. It was very minor, yet Jim added some small trim to help hide the gap and dress up the appearance. Overall the porch looks much, much better than it did when it was originally constructed. Jim enjoys what he does and it shows in his work. We appreciated having him do the porch and are now talking with him about some other projects. I would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Rebuilt front porch. Leveled porch where settling had caused it to no longer be level. Replaced flooring and handrails. Primed coated all materials that would need to be painted.
