Emergency Services Offered
Services we offer
Plumbing, water heaters, drain cleaning, video inspection, line location, air balancing, heating & air conditioning.
Steve really spent a lot of time at the house and gave us really good information about our options. He informed us that we weren't pulling enough air into the house system, and we brainstormed how to increase it within the home's existing conditions. He sent us a number of different options, and returned to discuss each of them with us. After we decided on the systems, we agreed on an installation date for a Wednesday. They took out the old system and installed the studio heat pump first. The studio install went well, but on Thursday, the house proved to be more difficult. They informed us that they would need to take the sheet metal back to the shop and would not return until Monday. We had not discussed how long it would take to complete the work beyond the two or three days Steve had told us, but we had assumed three days would be sufficient. Not only would the delay mean that we had no heat or air conditioning over the weekend, but we were planning on leaving town for four days that Monday. The owner promised us he would do the work while we were gone, and everything would be done when we returned. We gave him access to the house, and we were a little suprised to find the workers still there when we returned the following Thursday afternoon. They advised us that they would be finished in an "hour and 1/2," but at 10:00PM that night they were still working. Not only was it disruptive and noisy, but we were concerned about them installing the furnace when they were obviously fatigued, and they weren't understanding the enormity of the project. We then learned that they had not been scheduled to work on the system for two of the days we were gone, which is why it wasn't finished when we returned home. A call to the owner the next morning resulted in sincere apologies, and the work was completed that day. Luckily for us the weather was mild for the nine days we were without a system, and we are very satisfied with both the systems and the work. Having done a lot of work on our 100 year old house ourselves, we have come to expect the unexpected. A lot of angst could have been avoided if they had assigned the right amount of resources to the job in the first place or recognized and communicated that the job was more than they anticipated. The installers were very polite and professional, as was everyone we encountered.
Description of Work: We had our furnace and air conditioning replaced in our house and installed a heat pump with with two units in our separate studio.

We?ve used their services before and have had good experiences with them in the past. However, this time we weren?t pleased with how their work came out. They said that they had fixed the toilet, but it actually worsened the situation. We guess this time was an exception, as we?ve been very pleased with their work in the past.
Description of Work: We had some plumbing work done by Thomas Clark Inc. They fixed a couple of toilet problems and looked at a pipe leak.

The whole process went extremely well. The plumber arrived on time and was extremely friendly. He also explained what he was doing at each step in the repair process.
Description of Work: The plumber replaced the gooseneck and connecting piping on the drain in my kitchen sink to fix a leak. He also noticed that the hose connecting my dishwasher to my garbage disposal did not have a clamp, so he installed it free of charge.

We recently moved into the house and the new furnace stopped working. The furnace was still under warranty and the company sent someone out that night for a repair. He arrived in about 20 minutes and was gone in about 30, with the heat back on.
Description of Work: Nighttime emergency service call for the furnace. They were out in 20 minutes and had the system working again shortly thereafter.

Though the work performed fixed the problem, it was expensive and the the technician missed the first appointment date and never even called. I called the company several times after the appointment window and was promised that the technician would eventually show up. He did. After I called the next morning (Saturday). It was 58 degrees in the house, so the work needed was evidently urgent. The technician found the problem quickly but said he couldn't even look for a replacement part until Monday. After calling the company several times on Monday, I finally got an estimate for the part and labor and the technician showed up on time (early, in fact) on Tuesday and replaced the part quickly. The work was fine, but the service could use improvement, especially for the prices they charge.
Description of Work: The company diagnosed the problem with my furnace and replaced the faulty circuit board, thus resolving the problem.

We received the member's service call Saturday morning 10/17 at 9:57 am. We arrived at his home at 11:45 am and diagnosed the problem. The supply house was closed so we couldn't find out price and availability until Monday morning 10/19. We ordered the part and had it shipped over-night. We returned on Tuesday 10/20 at 11:00 am and installed the part. Parts from this particular supplier are very expensive, but the member was quoted the full price before any work was ever done. On Sunday afternoon, after trying everything I could think of myself (from plungers to prayer) I called a non-Angie's List plumbing company we'd used a couple of times before; though they advertise 24/7 emergency service, no one answered the phone. Called another local company (this time from Angie's List). Their answering service took my info, said they'd relay the message, and someone would call me back at the first opportunity. After 90 minutes I gave up (that outfit has yet to call back), and called Thomas E. Clark (Angie's List). Phone was answered immediately (3rd ring) by a delightful lady named Theresa. She listened to my sad tale of an apparently clogged major pipe (my guesstimate) and my plea to have it taken care of. She told me she'd contact a plumber and I'd get a call once she had a timeframe. Five minutes later the phone rang, and Theresa gave me the details: the plumber was headed back to his house to change clothes and get his truck and would be on his way. I asked for a ballpark time estimate, and she said about an hour and a half, and he'd call me once he was headed here. Sure enough, Joe The Plumber (no, not THAT Joe........) called around 5:30 and said he was on his way. At 6:15 he rang the bell. It's always a joy to witness someone working who knows what he's doing, and Joe certainly did. I gave him the rundown, showed him the situation in the basement (laundry sinks were backing up from the upstairs kitchen drain), and within 5 minutes he'd made his diagnosis. He explained it was an eminently fixable problem, then proceeded to fix it. He was finished and paid and on his way home in half an hour from that point. Both Theresa and Joe had told me about the additional emergency service charge up front, and Joe added the info about the specifics of this particular job once he'd checked the problem. I'm still marveling at the whole episode. Needless to say, Thomas E. Clark, Inc. is now the ONLY plumbing organization displayed on my refrigerator door!

Without exception all of the jobs worked as scheduled. Men arrived on time. Stayed with the job until completed. The scheduling was established based on our, convenience and not waiting to be "put in the schedule" Communications with the office exceeded the norm. I was never put on hold, never advised I would be called later. Plus, when you talk to someone, it's generally the general manager, the one who gets it done
Description of Work: There were 3 Parts to the project. One, replacing all of the plumbing fixtures in two bathrooms, Two, move complete plumbing in kitchen to accommodate new sink and base cabinets, and Three, searched existing sewer line to find problem, ran a complete new line.

We phoned Clark Plumbing at 8:30 am and by 11:00 a technician was on site. He showed us the broken connector--the Saturday price was $80 (Saturday jobs are 35% extra) plus the Saturday service fee of $104 (normal base fee is $69). The tech explained that the stopcock could be replaced for an extra $200 but he recommended we not do that. He spent ten minutes doing the repair and a good 30 minutes explaining the problems, explaining how to shut off the water (several shutoff valves are involved since we have a pressure relief valve). He also spent time telling us how to shut down the water before a trip and turn the water heater to 'pilot.' Maybe a POH is going overboard but gosh he was on time, did the job, spent lots of time explaining things, and he also complimented the dog.
Description of Work: A water connector on the bottom of a toilet tank broke on a Saturday morning. We shut the toilet stopcock but water was still dripping, so we had to shut down main water, making an emergency call necessary.

Once I got someone at the house, everything went really, really well, and I was very pleased. The work was done in one day, and very professionally. As mentioned previously with this company, I had a problem with someone not showing up at the designated time/day. After calling, they sent someone out the next morning first thing.

We appreciate the feedback. Sometimes, our technicians get on jobs where they find more problems than originally anticipated. When that happens it can mess up the schedule for the remainder of the day. That is what happened on this particular call. My dispatcher remembers her being very understanding of the situation which makes it easier for all parties. Thanks again for taking the time to offer valuable feedback.

Sometimes our technicians get hung up on jobs that take much longer that expected. We really try to arrive within the 2 hour window, but things happen on jobs that are beyond our control and we have to stay and complete the work. Our mistake here was that we did not communicate the delay to the member and that is unacceptable. We pride ourselves in providing top-notch service before, during and after the work is done and in this instance we did not. We constantly review our performance so that this does not happen, but we don't always get perfect results. We have addressed this situation with the parties involved and will continue to strive to do better. Michael S. Hartman, President

They spent a good deal of time doing a basic "assurance inspection". I sense we have little to worry about in terms of pipes, water pressure, functioning plumbing, etc., after their visit.

They are expensive plumbers, like everybody else, but we are very happy and satisfied with them. If something is not right, they come back to us. The initial A/C checkup was fine. A couple of weeks later, when we turned the A/C on again, the temperature never got below 80 degrees. We called company back and they sent a different repair man. Unfortunately, the day he came, it was raining, so he couldnt inspect the outdoor heat-pump located on the roof. He suggested that we make another appt for another day when it was not rainy. We did that and the serviceman for the 2nd appt never showed up and even did not leave a message. We called the office again and they sent a 3rd serviceman (different from the first two). He was able to get to the heatpump on the roof and noticed that the freon was below normal. He refilled it and did not charge us. Unfortunately, this did not fixed the problem. After placing 4 calls to Thomas E Clark, we decided that we needed to choose another company who would actually determine the root cause of the problem. The other company determined that the heat pump was not pumping cool air because the compressor was broken. The other company spent 4 hrs trying to fix the problem. In the end, we had to replace the entire system. If Thomas E Clark would have made the determination from the initial cleaning, we would not have been without A/C for over two months now.

4/29/09 Our initial job, for $4500, was to replace the outdoor A/C unit and indoor coil for the 2ND FLOOR SYSTEM. 5/19/09 Customer called about BASEMENT system leaking water. Since we checked that unit during our first visit, we went out and cleaned the condensate drain pan at NO CHARGE. On 5/22/09 we were called out for the BASEMENT system leaking again. We responded immediately and couldn't find any leakage. Our technician watched the system operate for 2 hours, still no leaking. We did not get paid for that visit either. As of 6/22/09, we have not received any calls from customer regarding any leaking. We responded to every service call within 24 hours. Michael S. Hartman, President

Among other plumbing issues, I thought I had a leak from my bathroom shower. In actuality, my shower door needed a rubber strip to prevent water from seaping onto the floor. Jayson, the plumber, made some very low cost suggestions that I fixed myself after getting a part from the local hardware store. Jayson was great for giving me that advice. For that reason, I will continue to use Thomas E Clark Inc in the future.

Based on the plumber's initial assessment of the problem, he estimated a cost of $208, less a $20.00 Angie's List discount. However, he encountered quite a bit of difficulty in soldering the pipe because of trapped water, and it took him more than twice the amount of time he originally estimated. However, he honored his initial estimate.
