Phil and his crew were great. They did high quality work very quickly, and Phil himself was wonderfully responsive. The price we agreed on was the price we paid. I can't recommend Phil's work highly enough. If you want to know that you're going to get what want, for the price you're quoted, on time, this is your guy. For the kitchen remodel, Phil did: * All plans for the layout of the kitchen. * Wall demolotion to create an open kitchen. * Electric heavy up. * New cabinetry. * All new appliances, requiring new water lines to be run. * Floor tiling. * New lighting runs. * Granite installation. For the basement remodel: * All plans and designs, including a reduction in scope to fit within our budget. * Full framing of an unfinished basement, including subdivisions of spaces to create a bathroom and a storage closet. * Removal of an old utility sink and updates to the way in which lines & returns are run.

Phil is consistently reliable and punctual about getting estimates. He usually can come over to look at a project within a week. Then, he prepares an estimate matching the requested level of detail (since sometimes I just want to know if I could afford a project - and sometimes I need a detailed estimate in preparation for hiring someone). He's good at corresponding over email.
We've had one occasion in particular when we wished we had hired Phil instead of another, lower-priced bid. Phil does an excellent job at communication and he himself and his work crews are very punctual. That was not true of the other guy...
I also appreciate that Phil will attend to relatively small renovation jobs - like repairing our basement door. He'll let you know if a job would need to be combined with other work to be big enough for his crew.
We've been very pleased with the work Phil's team has done and would recommend him.

We were working under a very tight timeline, and Phil did a great job managing the process.  We finished on time, and I have a great looking tutoring center to show for it.  I highly recommend Phil for small or large jobs.  He is personable, responsive and fair with cost.  He has great relationships with his crews and knows good folks to get the job done right the first time.

Phil Lazus was originally recommended to me by a realtor friend, and he painted the front door and front exterior of my home in the 2000's. That paint has held up very well so I knew I wanted to contact Phil about my stairwell.
My 30 year old home was covered in very durable wallpaper-- EVERYWHERE-- including the entire staircase, basement up to second floor. During Phil's inspection of the job before providing me a quote, Phil noted that the walls had been papered over by the builder without any primer but just a thin coat of white paint sprayed over the drywall. Over the last 15 years, wallpaper removal was a laborious, DIY effort. The 19 foot height of the stairwell was beyond my abilities. Phil gave me a detailed, al la carte quote, so I could decide how much DIY I wanted to do vs. how much it would cost to have him do everything.
When I called Phil, he said he mainly does remodeling now, but he did keep a painter on his team to do occasional painting jobs. Ron showed up early on each of the three days that he worked in my home. He basically spent three days on a ladder in a confined space during a heat wave.
He cleaned after himself and tried to prevent excessive sanding dust by curatining-off with vinyl drop cloths and tape the area where he was working. He used the minimum of chemicals to remove the dried on paste, and vacuumed daily as he worked, and removed each day's trash as he worked.
I consider spending $1000.00 for the removal of wallpaper to be a significant expense. However, I can honestly say that the three days and $1000.00 was a much more than fair exchange. Phil Lazus' work made it possible for the stairwell to be painted in a matter of two days (primer and two coats of fashion color paint). Having done it all DIY in many rooms of my home, I know that the stairwell would still be half-done, months later. Phil Lazus, in my experience using his painting services, ONLY does quality work and he charges for the quality and speed which he can provide. Lastly, be aware that many painters just flat out refuse wallpaper removal work.

It went like clockwork. Phil's workers removed the drop ceiling and the old ceiling underneath it, and removed the debris. Then workers created the structure for the walls and insulation and framing for the new door. Electricians came next and wired for the new lights and outlets. They created switches that allow us to control the stair light from the top or the bottom of the stairs, and rewired the laundry room so all lights can be controlled from one switch. Then Ron, Phil's wall and ceiling finishing genie, came in and created the new ceiling, walls and enclosures. The new baseboards were cut and installed, and the new door was hung, and Ron came back and painted everything. The electricians did their finishing touches (switch plates and outlet covers, etc.) and the new carpet was laid. It all happened in less than two weeks.

Everything went beautifully! Phil was on the scene or on the phone with us each day telling us what to expect and who would be doing what. He has a wonderful team of experts working with him--plumber, electrician, tile craftsman, drywall installer and painter--and each step of the process (which seemed so intimidating at the outset) was carried out quickly and with finesse. Along the way, we got other issues addressed as well--an extra electrical outlet installed in the workroom laundry room.
Phil and his team attended to every detail, pointing out issues before they became problems (the medicine cabinet we'd bought that was too deep to fit over the sink), conscientiously addressing the door that wouldn't quite close smoothly after it was painted (I hadn't noticed), and the hinges that weren't the same metal finish as the bathroom fixtures (I didn't realize that it would bother me until after he had changed them). The final product can only be described as dazzling, with every beautiful detail exactly as we wanted it.

It was a great experience. I highly recommend the Phil Lazas Contracting LLC. Phil and his company renovated my kitchen. The floors, appliances, cabinets, sink, lighting and counter tops were replaced. The timeline was met as well as the proposed budget. His team is meticulous, they cleaned the site before leaving every day. His team is on time and professional. I will be using them again next year for another project.

Phil will listen to your ideas, as any contr...actor will, but what sets him apart is that he brings his own ideas to a project and isn't afraid to tell you when something isn't going to work. He also is keen to embrace fresh concepts -- installing a glass brick wall in the master bath shower, for instance. I also have to commend his crew, who were professional, reliable and tidy. Special praise to the guy who does the tile (I can't remember his name). My friends still rave about the quality of the tilework in the bathrooms and kitchen. It was a great job at a fair price. I've already referred several friends to Phil and will continue to do so. I love my house.

We can't recommend Phil Lazas more highly. From his timely, thorough and responsive estimate to the on-time and on-budget completion, Phil was fantastic every step of the way. He re-did our entire kitchen in a month-- including gorgeous custom cabinitry, new flooring, new countertops, new paint, new appliances, and an entire re-haul with electricians and plumbers. It was a lot, but Phil and his crew showed up everyday and did thorough, precise, and clean work. Phil checked in with us all the time to make sure we were involved in the process, and was flexible with the details and costs when we needed him to be. When there was something that needed tweaking post-installation (a knob out of alignment, a corner in need of more caulking), Phil had his guys come out to fix it immediately, no questions asked. The crew left everything clean at the end of every work day and maximized the amount of time we had a working kitchen, which was hugely appreciated as we have a toddler and another on the way. I honestly couldn't believe they were going to get everything done on schedule and budget, but Phil came through for us, and was truly a pleasure to work with. The kitchen is beautiful, and we look forward to working with Phil again.
