We've had one occasion in particular when we wished we had hired Phil instead of another, lower-priced bid. Phil does an excellent job at communication and he himself and his work crews are very punctual. That was not true of the other guy...
I also appreciate that Phil will attend to relatively small renovation jobs - like repairing our basement door. He'll let you know if a job would need to be combined with other work to be big enough for his crew.
We've been very pleased with the work Phil's team has done and would recommend him.
My 30 year old home was covered in very durable wallpaper-- EVERYWHERE-- including the entire staircase, basement up to second floor. During Phil's inspection of the job before providing me a quote, Phil noted that the walls had been papered over by the builder without any primer but just a thin coat of white paint sprayed over the drywall. Over the last 15 years, wallpaper removal was a laborious, DIY effort. The 19 foot height of the stairwell was beyond my abilities. Phil gave me a detailed, al la carte quote, so I could decide how much DIY I wanted to do vs. how much it would cost to have him do everything.
When I called Phil, he said he mainly does remodeling now, but he did keep a painter on his team to do occasional painting jobs. Ron showed up early on each of the three days that he worked in my home. He basically spent three days on a ladder in a confined space during a heat wave.
He cleaned after himself and tried to prevent excessive sanding dust by curatining-off with vinyl drop cloths and tape the area where he was working. He used the minimum of chemicals to remove the dried on paste, and vacuumed daily as he worked, and removed each day's trash as he worked.
I consider spending $1000.00 for the removal of wallpaper to be a significant expense. However, I can honestly say that the three days and $1000.00 was a much more than fair exchange. Phil Lazus' work made it possible for the stairwell to be painted in a matter of two days (primer and two coats of fashion color paint). Having done it all DIY in many rooms of my home, I know that the stairwell would still be half-done, months later. Phil Lazus, in my experience using his painting services, ONLY does quality work and he charges for the quality and speed which he can provide. Lastly, be aware that many painters just flat out refuse wallpaper removal work.
Phil and his team attended to every detail, pointing out issues before they became problems (the medicine cabinet we'd bought that was too deep to fit over the sink), conscientiously addressing the door that wouldn't quite close smoothly after it was painted (I hadn't noticed), and the hinges that weren't the same metal finish as the bathroom fixtures (I didn't realize that it would bother me until after he had changed them). The final product can only be described as dazzling, with every beautiful detail exactly as we wanted it.
