I hired Chuck several years ago through Angie's List and found him to be responsive, courteous, and professional in installing the proper hook up to replace an outdated rangetop stove. After a recent malfunction with a circuit breaker, my immediate instinct was to call Chuck. Regrettably, it seems the level of service and attentiveness he once provided has declined. He returned my initial phone call promptly, advising that he would follow up and set up an appointment. Two weeks later, after repeated calls and leaving a message, I have yet to hear back. Very disappointing given how well the previous experience went.

I'm torn about posting this, because I found Chuck to be very friendly and easy to work with. A few months ago we scheduled for Chuck to come out and give us a quote on installation of motion sensors around the house. At first he was going to come on a Saturday, but a job he was working on went over and he had to postpone. That's fine, it happens, and he more than made up for it by offering to come out on Sunday instead, which is probably his only day off. We took him up on his offer and he came out and provided a very detailed walk-through of our property and made recommendations about what he would suggest installing, and explained how it would be done. Mostly it involved motion sensors, but we received an education about different ways to approach a solution. He also suggested an outdoor standing lantern lamp (I probably have the terminology wrong) that comes on at dusk and goes off with daylight. After the walk-through we requested quotes via email on several portions of what he proposedof the options he proposed. Five days later he called back and said he'll get us a quote soon. Another week passed and we hadn't heard back so I sent a reminder email. Another week passed again and I sent another reminder email. He replied that the weather had messed with his scheduling but he hasn't forgotten and he'll have something to us shortly. Six more weeks passed and I sent one more reminder and received no further communications. We'll never know if the lack of responsiveness is due to the fact that we didn't select some of the more complicated (and costly) solutions he proposed... It's a shame -- because our rating is based purely on the lack of follow-through and professionalism.
Description of Work: We asked for a quote to install motion sensors around the house. In the end, we never received a quote, although Chuck had come out and performed a detailed walk-through and proposed different potential solutions.

Description of Work: Chuck fixed an outdoor light fixture on a post that had been there for over 30 years (made in Mexico, the design and appearance made it worth preserving). Needed rewiring (he had to do that back in his shop) and a new photo cell. Putting it all back together was difficult due to lack of uniformity in the component parts, but he did a very nice job at a fair price. My neighbors were very happy on an earlier job, and recommended him. Although he missed the initial visit, he was very punctual thereafter. Chuck showed real interest in restoring old lights that on the basis of appearance ought to be preserved.

After the reference we received, we called Mr. Miglio, who had me describe the problem. He asked several diagnostic questions and then suggested some repairs I could try myself before he needed to come to the house. I tried his suggestions, but since they were not successful, I called him back as he told me to do. He then asked a few more specific questions and said he and quot;couldn't come todayand quot; because he needed to get a specialized circuit breaker first, and he'd call once he did. This was the day after Christmas and I said there was no hurry since the outlets affected were not interfering with our lifestyle. He called the next day and said since we lived so close, he could stop by later that morning. He was there as he told us he would, checked out several outlets and said he could probably take care of the problem by replacing the circuit breaker. He did explain there was a possibility the repair might be more costly than he expected. Happily the necessary repair was just as he thought. He could have easily had us believe an expensive job was needed and we'd have never known better. After checking the price on the circuit breaker box and adding the labor, he gave us the bill, saying he wasn't including a fuel charge since we lived so close to his office. I found Mr. Niglio to be very honest and professional. He remedied our problem quickly at a very reasonable charge. He also volunteered how we should keep the outside Christmas light plugs protected from moisture and the best way to do that. He's very knowledgable as an electrician and very conscientious as a person. I would never hesitate to use and recommend him in the future for any electrical work
Description of Work: The work we needed done required replacing a circuit breaker. We originally called our "handy man", but he said the problem required a professional electrician. Since we had never used an electrician before, we asked the plumbers we've used for many years, Master Mechanical, for a reference. They quickly gave us the name and number of Mr. Niglio, saying they recommend him highly. I've since spoken to several friends who say the same.

After talking to several electrical contractors we decided to go with Niglio and Son. Chuck Sr. and Chuck Jr. came out and walked through our new house while the house still had only the studs. They provided us a very fair estimate to wire everything. They also added a sub panel on the second floor. The attached all of the fixtures (lights, chandelier, wall scones, door bell, ceiling fans, etc.). After the original walk through I dealt primarily with Chuck Jr. I got the feeling that Sr. is turning over the keys to the business to him. I cannot speak highly enough about their professionalism and communication. Chuck Jr. made several recommendations about things that I would never have thought of. They wired the entire home, not just with power but cat5e and coax to wherever we wanted. We needed a few things adjusted after the house was in the finishing stages and they came promptly to do so. Chuck Jr. even pointed out an issue with our plumbing that the plumbers missed and we had to get fixed. Niglio and sons know their stuff and flat out are great guys. I would not say they were cheap but I wouldn't say there were overly expensive either. I did not mind not selecting the lowest bidder and choosing Niglio and Sons simply because of the attention to detail they provided. The quality of their work is awesome. They went above and beyond in some places. I cannot recommend them enough. One thing I would recommend is if you do select them as your electrical contractor to ask Chuck Jr. for his cell phone number. It seemed the best way to contact the company. Not that I really had any issues. It just made life easier.
Description of Work: Niglio and Sons wired our entire house with electricity, installed a new sub-panel, provided cat5e and coax to every room, installed every fixture, every outlet and wall plate, our doorbell, and all of the lighting.

Chuck Niglio was great. I told him that I wanted the recessed light replaced because it had quit working. He said he might be able to fix the light without having to replace it and he did! Also, when I told him I wanted a wall switch replaced, he asked me a series of diagnostic questions to make sure that the problem was with the switch and not with the ballast of the florescent light fixture. Then, he made a great suggestion about adding an on/off switch for the attic fan in case we had problems with it. Finally he told me he would come on Saturday, June 30, 2012, if possible. I called him Friday afternoon, June 29, to see if he was going to be able to come on Saturday, and he said he would. (This is one days notice, mind you, since I originally called him on the morning of June 29.) The DERECHO had other plans. However, Chuck called me Saturday morning to ask me if we could delay until the following week as he was trying to help his neighbors deal with a tree that fell on their house. On Monday morning, July 2, his workers came on time and did the work they were supposed to do. The ONLY little criticism my husband had was that they left the striplings from the wires on the floor in our basement when they replaced the switch and only put in one screw on the outside plate. But then, the electrician came back to tell us he had found a replacement screw and was going to put it in when he realized my husband had already replaced it with one he had. So, my guess is that the clean up and missing screw business would have been taken care of by the electricians if my husband hadn't jumped in on the project before they were finished. All in all, I had a great experience with Niglio and Sons.
Description of Work: Chuck Niglio did quite a bit of diagnostic work during our first conversation before sending two electricians out to my house. The electricians hooked up a new attic fan (which was installed by someone else) and installed a separate switch for it. They replaced a light switch and fixed a recessed lighting fixture that had quit working.

Chuck seemed great at first... he came recommended, showed up on time, and seemed very capable. But he never called me back. In fact repeated phone calls and emails to him went without response. I guess he didn't want my business...

went horribly. the fan wouldn't fit. they installed it on the wall instead. manufacturer said it should never be installed on a wall. was making noise. they drilled holes in the side of the unit so it wasn't returnable. they cut huge holes in the drywall all over the place - way bigger than they should be. instead of putting the vent through the roof as discussed, they connected it with the dryer vent in the adjacent room! overall horrible job. stay away! their prices were very high and the work was extremely lousy. refused to pay them. they offered to buy the $200+ vent/fan from us since they damaged it and we couldnt return it. we were left with almost $500 in drywall repairs just to get back to where we were, and we still didnt have a fan.

Chuck was great! I called in to get an appointment. We had new tenants due to move in to our rental home on the weekend, when we realized that half of the lights in the house didn't work. Presuming the worse case, we called NIGLIO and SON. After describing the problem, Chuck asked a few questions and suggested I call the Pepco first. His prognosis was that it was probably an outside line problem. He didn't want to unnecessarily charge me for the visit. A Pepco service agent called us about 6 hours later from the property with the exact same results that Chuck had predicted.

An excellent experience. Chuck Niglio is unfailingly responsive in terms of advice and scheduling--and is an all round great guy who values his customers. The workmen he sends know what they are doing and get the job done promptly and courteously.
Description of Work: I have used Niglio's twice, once to install a kitchen light and once to repair some wiring in our family room. On both occasions Chuck Niglio could not have been more responsive and helpful and the young man he sent out to do the work was both very polite and very competent. I was very impressed by the firm and the owner. The work is done promptly and at a reasonable price. Chuck and his staff are very helpful with advice and never try to upsell services. I will call them whenever I have any needs in terms of electric or lighting.

They were first grade. The overhead lighting florescent fixture in my kitchen gave out. So, they came out and made a recommendation that I use a new fixture of incandescent type. They made the recommendation even though they didn’t have any interest in it. They could have fixed the old one, but they suggested the new fixture for my long-term benefit. It worked out terrific. They were the nicest and the most responsive people I had met. The work cost me $130. I bought the fixture myself. Today, the new fixture looks terrific; it looks better than the old fixture. It is very efficient and luminous. The guy, who I dealt with directly, was great. He sent out great youngsters to do the work. I have decided to use them as my electricians in the future.

Probably one of the best experiences I've had with a contractor. After needing this work in order to move in to a recently purchased home, my wife and I were struggling to find an electrical contractor. I called Niglio and Son on Friday afternoon and they were able to come out Saturday to perform an estimate. Deciding that we wanted them to do the work, they pulled the permits on Monday, and were able to fit us in on Tuesday morning! Everyone I have dealt with at Niglio and Son has been more than accommodating and helped us in every way they could.
Description of Work: Niglio and Son performed "Heavy-Up" work on our house in Takoma Park. They showed up right between 7:30 and 8 in the morning, exactly when expected. All the employees were very professional and took care in doing the job right. We were very impressed with the work, and our new panel box looks and works great!

I called Mr Niglio and received a prompt call back from him. We then scheduled a visit to my home for an estimate. During the visit, he walked through and reviewed the work I requested, and made suggestions about other items that needed attention as well. A few days later, he called back and left a message with the estimate. It took some doing to get in touch with him and schedule a date for the work after he left the message with the estimate, but a few weeks later we scheduled a date. I was impressed with Mr. Niglio's professionalism. He was prompt and thorough. I will definitely call him for future work.
Description of Work: Mr. Niglio installed two motion lights in my driveway. He also installed a new 220V circuit for an ac/heat pump unit and an additional circuit for general use in a room of my home.

I called to obtain a price quotation to install a track lighting system. The person answering the phone indicated I'd receive a call back later that day from the owner. The owner called about two to three hours later. When I described the services I needed, the owner indicated he'd call again later that day after he checked his schedule to find an opening when he was available to provide the quote. The owner never called again.

Very Well. The owner, Chuck Niglio, was very professional and honest with his assessment and work. An assistant electrician who did all of the outlet replacements worked quietly and quickly.
Description of Work: Replaced six dimmers, 30 outlets, 12 switches, added two can lights, corrected a bad breaker by installing a new split breaker, added a new outlet, and rewired three appliance lines putting them each on their own circuit.

Overall, it was a good experience even though we did not exactly get done what we wanted done. But I have to say, we didn't pay for anything other than the work that Chuck did. We fully intend to call Niglio's and have more work done. We will buy a new fan and have them install it. I got the sense that I was fit in for today and they didn't want to disappoint me by not showing up. I commend that. I will give an A for overall experience because Chuck did the best he could with what was presented.
Description of Work: Chuck, who I believe is the son of the owner, arrived to fix an outdoor fan, a broken doorbell, put in a phone line in an upstairs bedroom, and change some electrical outlets. He was very nice. Unfortunately, he could do very little of the work I wanted. On the other hand, he was very honest about what he could not do. The wiring on the outdoor ceiling fan was very brittle and he felt that trying to fix the switch would make it worse. He suggested we buy a new fan rather than invest in fixing this one. He could not find the problem with the doorbell. We live in an old house and he could not locate the transformer for the doorbell. He suggested that we purchase a battery operated one that operates with chimes in a remote way. There were no problems with the outlets. He changed four old outlets with no problem. He said he would come back to do the phone lines at a later time because he did not have phone lines on the truck and the job is more involved.
