Mr. Kosok was in my home for 4 hours to change a switch plate and work on an issue with ceiling fan. The wall around the light switch was damaged and the light no longer worked. The ceiling fan repair was also a miss. He charged me $405 and when I reached out about the damage and light no longer working he told me to call an electrician and blew me off. I admit I was wrong to write him a check without checking his work but I was hurrying to pick up my daughter from school. He was kind and friendly, spending much of that time talking at me and my baby. I was in a hurry to get him out of my house and to pick up daughter on time. This was in January 2020. I’m just now writing this review because I recently found the receipt and wanted to warn others. He was kind and quick in responding to request of service but there is no integrity in his work or cost. I will also add he left 3 small screws and a mess behind on my floors which is dangerous in a house with small children and a puppy.

I had an interior door that didn't fit in the frame. Karl was able to modify the crooked frame so the door closes properly. He also created a support beam for a kitchen bench, fixed a sagging ceiling in my carport, and gave advice regarding existing cable lines in walls.

Eddie did a fantastic job. Always answered my calls. Showed up on time. On the roof job all that was required was to repair one tile. However, Eddie went out of his way to repair the roof vent because he saw that it was ready to come loose if we have a strong wind. He did that at no extra charge to us. I would recommend Mr. Fixit without reservation.

Karl arrived on time, spent less than 15 minutes here fixing both door problems, and charged $20 based on his $80 hourly rate--very reasonable, as many folks would have charged a minimum 1/2 or full hour for the visit. We will definitely keep him in mind for future handyman projects!

He is pleasant, thoughtful, but rather slow.  Said he had put many gates together, but took over three hours to install three  off-the-shelf gates, with two requiring a piece of wood as an extension.
Response from MR. FIXIT HOME REPAIR
"There were several reasons this job took a while: It was difficult to hang the rack on the wall because there were no studs in that part of the wall, so I had to put in many anchors to make it really secure. The screws that came with the kit to secure the TV to the wall were the wrong size, so I was unable to complete this task. (I showed her the length of screws needed.) It is difficult to attach baby gates securely to large openings on a staircase when there is a high baseboard. I had to carefully cut several pieces of wood of varying thicknesses so the gates would fit well. Also, I carefully attached the gates so when they are removed, the holes can be easily patched and will not be too visible. (I explained all of this to [member name removed] when I was doing the work.)"

Walt is an excellent communicator.  Very responsive to emails and phone calls.  He arrived at the house as scheduled.  The job turned out very well.  I was very pleased with the results especially with the window that was about 15 feet above the floor.  The shade at that window also required a motorized device that operated the shade from a remote control.  It worked perfectly.

Karl was wonderful! He did arrive 10 minutes late but traffic in my neighborhood is awful and we had reconfirmed the appointment earlier in the week so it was all good.
I have a dripping faucet and was hoping it might be repaired. We agreed to his spending a few minutes to take it apart to see if the fixture could be salvaged but not wasting any more time on it if it looked like I should just get a new fixture. He showed me the non-standard parts that would need to be replaced, with no guarantees it would actually fix the drip so I decided i will get a new faucet and have him come back.
The latch on the door is something you would think I could do myself, but it turned out to be complicated because my door frame is metal. Karl was able to get it to work but offered to come back and epoxy it if it doesn't hold up. So far it is keeping my cat out of the closet so I am happy.  The broom repair is something a handy person could do but anytime you mention wall anchors i would rather just pay someone and it turned out much better than if i had tried to do it. I am really glad I had him do the smoke detector as well because it involved being on a ladder and putting connectors on wires.
Karl did not mind the minutiae so I did not feel embarrassed about being a feeble homeowner. He was very pleasant and interesting to chat with and I felt totally comfortable with him in my house.  He did not waste any time yet was very thorough. My list took a little less than an hour. I feel I got my money's worth.
I am definitely hiring Karl again. I am glad that I have someone in my neighborhood i can call for odds and ends!

Miguel is a very good communicator and uses email to set up appointments and send invoices which helps sooo much.  He listens carefully and tells you when there is something he would have another person do.  He came with a helper so that there were two people there working at the same time making the job go so much faster.

Cost of job was about 30% higher than the estimate. He showed up on time, but apparently was dependent on the "helper" who was supposed to be there only half a day; however, the "helper" seemed to have knowledge and did majority of the work. I understand the "helper" has since moved out of the area. I would not have any confidence that Mr. Fixit could handle a job on his own or has any one with experience to help him now that the "helper" is gone. Even though the "helper" did most of the work, he made wrong cuts in the framing materials due to lack of knowledge on how to work the table saw and there seemed to be much discussion as to how to progress in the job, all of which was time  charged to me. In the middle of the day, right when the stairs were ready to be put up, Mr. Fixit left to pick up his wife, I was not charged for his time, but was charged for the "helper's" time, which he spent rigging up ropes to get the stair unit up into the attic by himself (they were very heavy) and then he could not proceed without help, so it was not fair to charge me for time that would have gone faster if two people were available to do a two-person job.
I prepared the area so it would not get dirty (paying for the materials myself), which I am glad I did because they did not do much to take care with the mess outside of sweeping. Left small things for me to do, such as reinstall the smoke alarm, clean the walls they marked up, take down all of the materials I put up to protect the walls and floors, and paint the new trim. Also, all the debris was left for me to dispose of, he even seemed hesitant to supply the construction-grade garbage bags, I am surprised he did not charge me for them. Job took 11 hours, was estimated for 6 hours. It was almost 9:00 pm when they left; they did not want to start early in the day because the "helper" was coming from Baltimore, even though my intent was to hire someone who was nearby where I lived so travel would not be an issue, so much for that plan.
I felt taken advantage of, though perhaps I was just tired at the time, but my reaction has not changed in the weeks that have passed. The quality of the work was acceptable, but I would not use them again. Too far off the estimate for both time and money and after paying all that, still had things to finish myself. There were no surprises in the job, so I would have expected a more accurate estimate from someone who is supposed to know what he is doing and, by his account, has done "lots" of thee types of jobs, which was not at all apparent to me. To be fair, I did not call and voice any of these issues, just wanted to move on and be done with it, but in fairness to the Angie's List readers, am providing my feedback.
Response from MR. FIXIT HOME REPAIR
"I have installed numerous attic stairs but this job was unusually complicated; cutting old beams and installing new ones in an old house is challenging. Therefore, I discussed with my helper how to make the new beams strong, to safely support the attic stairs and the weight of a person climbing up while carrying something heavy. Installing attic stairs always requires two persons, and I always use ropes to lift and install the new stairs for both safety and convenience. When I first gave her the estimate, I had explained that because it was an old house, it was difficult to know the exact cost. I also asked her how she wanted to dispose of the debris and she asked me to put it in trash bags and said she would dispose of it. She was annoyed I left to pick up my wife, but I had explained to her I had taken my wife to the emergency room the night before, my wife was unexpectedly admitted, and I had to pick her up to drive her home that day. Even though my wife had been hospitalized the night before my appointment to install the stairs, I did not cancel the job. When it was getting late, I offered to come back the next day to finish the work, but she was eager to get everything done, so we stayed late to complete the job. After we swept the area, I offered to do additional clean-up, put up the smoke alarm, and paint the trim, but she said it was not necessary. Although one of my helpers has left the area, I have other experienced, competent workers who work with me. As she said in her review, she never expressed any dissatisfaction with my work at the time or afterwards. If she had, I would have addressed her concerns. I always go out my way to satisfy the needs and wishes of my clients."

I've hire Mr. Kosok for numerous small jobs around the house and he has always delivered.  He is on time, works hard, is courteous and pleasant, and the price is fair.  This job was no exception.  He came to examine the damage, purchased the materials, and completed the project in one day.  I recommend him highly.

He was punctual and eager to work. His work however was messy. He didn't have the professionalism/experience to identify all aspects of the job. Not just plastering/patching up water damaged areas but also paiting ceiling upon completion. He had to return several times to finally complete the job and didn't clearly state the whole process.  I believe he has skills to do minor repairs but don't expect him to do a clean professional job of bigger projects.
Response from MR. FIXIT HOME REPAIR
"[Member name removed]’s ceiling was badly damaged by the water leak. I explained that it would require several visits to complete the work because it takes several days for the spackle to dry before it can be sanded and painted. I have repaired many ceilings, and this one had been poorly installed and badly damaged, and therefore took a lot of time to repair properly. I always cover all surfaces and clean up thoroughly when I am done. He wanted me to paint only the kitchen ceiling and not the adjoining dining room ceiling. It is very difficult to get the color of new paint to match old paint even if you use the same paint. I had worked on [member name removed]’s house several times before on other projects, and he always seemed pleased with my work. I completed the work on his kitchen ceiling more than two years ago and until now, he had not expressed any dissatisfaction. In addition to the work on the kitchen, at the same time, I installed a medicine chest and two towel racks which he did not mention in his review. I charged him a total of six hours for repairing and painting the badly damaged ceiling, and installing the other items, which is very reasonable. I pride myself in all aspects of my work and satisfying each customer’s wishes. I am very sorry [member name removed] was unhappy, and if he had told me at the time, I would have worked with him to completely resolve his concerns."
