As first time home buyers and new professionals, my husband and I decided it would be wise to get our taxes done by a professional for the first time. Despite having an appointment, we waited nearly 40 minutes to see our preparer, who was Jordan's son. He was a nice guy who seemed very competent and well-versed in the federal/state tax laws. We left with the promise that we would receive a call when our complete tax packets (federal and state) were ready for pick up. We didn't hear a peep for a few weeks and, upon calling the office, were told that they had been ready for some time. They provided us with the original and a copy of each return and envelopes to mail them; we could not file electronically because of our new home buyer tax credit. Prior to mailing the packets, my husband reviewed them and noticed a big mistake on the federal return. They had put part of his income under my social security number. We called the office and they prepared corrected copies for us to pick up and mail off. Six weeks later we received a letter from the IRS stating that they were missing required documentation related to our home purchase. I called the office immediately. Jordan answered the phone. I told him the situation and he said (paraphrasing): "you need to bring down the documentation and we'll send it to the IRS for you." I expressed my dissatisfaction that we would probably have to wait several more weeks to get our return. He interrupted me mid-sentence and said (again, paraphrasing) "well, you would have had to wait some time anyway because you had to send it by mail!". I then told him about the previous mistake as well. When he asked who my preparer was, I couldn't remember the guy's name off the top of my head and said that it might of been Jordan. He said "no, I'm Jordan" in a somewhat annoyed tone. He again asked that I bring the letter and documentation down to the office and that I call before I come so that they could be ready. Okay, I get that mistakes happen. But NOT ONCE did Jordan apologize! No, I'm sorry. No "I'll talk with the preparer". NOTHING! Forget any kind of discount or refund. Very unprofessional!
