I submitted a form on Angieâ s list and many companies contacted me telling me they had to send somebody for an estimate and it would be until a couple of days later. Jorge contacted me and said he could come over that same day, send him a couple of pictures of the heater pump and he gave me a quote right away. He came that same day and finished the job as well. J Gill Construction did a complete makeover of our below grade basement. Services included installing an egress window, new luxury vinyl flooring, relocating and installing a new bathroom, all new electrical wiring, built in cabinets and so forth. The J Gill team was professional, punctual, and knowledgeable. Because of his (Jose the team leader) building code knowledge and attention to detail, we passed all county inspections without any deficiencies. The owner of the company is personable, offers good suggestions, and will work within your schedule constraints wherever possible. I highly recommend this company to everyone and will hire them again if needed.

Overall we are satisfied with the job J Gill construction has done. I had some concern about finding a good contractor before based on some stories I heard, especially on the punctuality and quality. I am glad that I chose J Gill company. As we walked through our basement with Jorge, and told him our ideas, he gave us a lot of good suggestions on the layout. His team showed up nearly every day at 7 am, and it was easy to talk with them about small modifications. The project was finished on time, and the quality is great. We like our new basement. I would highly recommend J. Gill company.

Nothing but positive things to say about J. Gill construction. The craftsmanship of their work is top notch and they are highly efficient in executing the project plan. Beyond the aforementioned positives, for my basement reno, what I appreciated most was the fact that the team was ALWAYS on time. Often, they would be waiting in the driveway by 0630 and they would always start working by 0700. This level of consistency makes life so much easier to plan around home renovations! One additional tidbit of import: I had to part ways with another contractor that was doing sloppy and slow work on a hardwood flooring install and kitchen renovation upstairs. I inquired with J. Gill and they were not only able to take over the work from the other contractor, but they completed the remaining flooring install (cleaning, prep and install of 850sq feet) within 24 hours. For comparison sake, the other contractor took 96 hours to install 150sq feet. Needless to say, not only are they professional, but they are also lifesavers! I have already recommended them to a couple of my colleagues at work and will definitely use them for renovation projects I have in the future! Very happy in Laurel, MD!

I feel there was poor communication between the contractor and myself. I also feel there could have been a better conveyance of the timeline from the beginning. The workers were great and I feel they did good work.

I would highly recommend Mr. J. Gill's company. I submitted request on service magic for basement finishment, invited 3 companies for proposal, and selected J. Gill construction because they have many years of experience and their proposals are detailed and reasonable. The work lasted for 4 weeks and the workers showed up timely everyday, did everything professionally. The job was done well. Mr. Gill himself was on site frequently, and can always be reached by phone. He accompanied me to Home Depot twice to purchase customized items, and he was very patient, offered many good suggestions. Overall, highly recommended.

Gill & Ortiz construction did a fabulous job on the two bathrooms that were in a pretty dire need of repairs. Jorge from Gill & Ortiz construction came out for the contract negotiation and gave us a reasonable quote. He was very courteous and profession and managed the job in a very competent manner. He gave us timely updates and worked with us on any problem that arose. He finished the job before time and on budget.

Jorge was very efficient, friendly, cooperative and helpful. He did our job to our complete satisfaction and we look forward to using him again as our needs arise.

Project took longer than anticipated, but we expected this. Handled roadblocks well. Did need constant supervision (done by my wife). Accepted and corrected mistakes immediately. Would rehire without reservation.

An exceptional experience. Superior results. Contractor was flexible, yet met commitments scrupulously. Our new bathroom is a work of art. Worth every penny.

Received three quotes - two were at $80K and one at $44K.....so, we hired J. Gill at $44K. The work consisted of ripping out the existing basement rooms, etc., and totally finish 900 square feet including a full kitchen, bathroom, and adding laundry service for the main floor. Electrical work included adding a 16 breaker expander panel, 16 recessed lights, 20 outlets, and three hardwired smoke detectors. All Plumbing for bathroom including below foundation dranage pipes, and kitchen. Duct work for five vents. Flooring - Pressure-treated subfloor with bamboo hardwood flooring on top. Exterior work included a new entrance door plus enlarging two windows through a concrete wall and adding one window to bedroom wall. In other words a complete in-law suite. Of course, accepting the lowest bid required some compromises. There were several misunderstandings, changes to the original contract for modifications, constantly overseeing the quality of the work, and cleaning up after the workers left every day. Be ready to give up your two car garage for the duration of the construction project -- that's where all of the tools and materials were kept. In summary, the price for the remodeling job minus appliances & cabinets: Gill Construction quoted at $44K and finished at $48K. The value for the money was excellent and we are pleased with the final result. And, sometimes paying more ($80K) doesn't get you a better product. We would strongly recommend this firm - as long as you have some personal time for onsite oversight. If I have another project, Gill Construction will be my first choice.

I will use them again for any re-modeling I do.
