Unlike the other companies I contacted for this repair, they charged $65 just to give me an estimate. The guy who came out to give me an estimate was professional, but then it all fell apart. First it took a long time to get the initial estimate (for a replacement). Then it wasn't itemized. When I got the itemized bill (for a replacement) I realized that I was much better off repairing the existing door. When I asked for an estimate to do just that, I got no response. I sent several emails and even called once (left voicemail). No response.

Working with Blaine was a disaster. Although they were very punctual and seemingly knowledgeable at the time they provided the original estimate, their advice was poor, their workmanship was very poor, and whenever a problem occurred they were slow to respond and offered only partial or second rate solutions. For example, they forgot to have the factory drill the hardware holes into the door. Rather than sending it back to be done properly , they insisted on doing it themselves. This would have been ok with me, except that they didn't measure and drill it quite properly, so the deadbolt hardware was slightly misaligned with the hole for the bolt. Rather than start over which i thought would have been appropriate since i paid for the new door, i think they shaved the deadbolt hole to make it slightly larger in order to force the bolt to fit, and it has never really functioned properly. There were many similar issues throughout the process of having a window and door replaced, were a problem in the repair arose and Blaine's proposed solution was second rate. They repeatedly shirked responsibility and blamed the problem on the fact that that i was doing a repair instead of a full new installation. But they are a window repair company! And initially they assured me a repair was a perfectly reasonable option. My biggest problem, however, is that 2 years after the original repair (which cost roughly $3500) , I am again having the same problem that was the reason i did the original repair in the first place - which is that water is leaking in from the second story door i had replaced. The molding below the door is wet and rotting, and i am afraid the problem is more extensive because in the most recent rainstorm the floor by the door was wet, and we had significant water in the house directly below the door that was replaced. But when I called and asked them to come and assess the situation, it was more of the same - I was told the next available appointment is 4 weeks out and there are no exceptions - which in my mind is basically the same as saying don't involve us. Blaine had an A+ rating on Angie's list which is why i hired them. We have done extensive home projects and repairs and they are without a doubt the least professional and lowest quality work we have ever received. Choosing a copy based on yelp reviews would have been a better bet.

First I had to wait for a contract in the mail and then sign and mail it back, took over a week. They should updated their system. Then they ordered the part and that took maybe 3 weeks. The repair men were courteous. Replaced balancers but said they couldn't get latch to catch easily. Noticed the windows flew up on their own before they left, they acted like the adjusted the balancer and latched the window with a screwdriver and left. They said the latch couldn't be fixed. I didn't try opening it because I was concerned about re-latching it. It turned out the window still flew open. Home inspector came a week later when my house went under contract. Said I needed to get latch fixed and fix second window because it was too hard to open and close. Called Glass Co because Blaine had already said they couldn't fix the latch and that the other window was fine. Glass Co was able to get the latch fixed and get both windows to work properly for $180. No more window flying open.

They were prompt, listened to my problems, knew exactly what to do, communicated an inexpensive price quote (considering what had to be done), and did an excellent job installing my replacement window. I asked them to look at another window that had a lot of molding work, which they gave me an inexpensive quote on and I will do it another time. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn they can replace sliding screen doors, I will have that done also at a later time.

Great job. It took a while to get the parts, but the end result was worth the wait.

The installers were very professional and efficient.  However, the initial window measurements were taken incorrectly for a couple of the windows, and this caused the installation to be delayed by a couple months.  In addition, the Provia Concord Series screen sashes are flimsy and very awkward to use.  This screen must be lifted all the way up to the upper window sash, in order to able to open the glass sash behind it, because the storm window track doesn't have any intermediary notches for securing and holding up the screen.

Blaine Window Repair came by my rental condo for an initial assessment of the job on 2/29/16.  I was charged $65.00 for the initial assessment. I was told it would be a week to get the estimate back.  I called back a week and a day later to get a status on the estimate and I was informed they were doing some research on a part and they would have the estimate ready that day or the next day, which would be 3/9/16. I still did not get the estimate by 3/9/16 so I called back on 3/10/16, and was told they were still doing research on the part and I would get the estimate that day or the next. Still no estimate so I called again on 3/11/16 and was told they hopefully would have the estimate ready within a few hours. In the meantime they were going to send me the estimate minus the mysterious part itemized  in the estimate, and guess what, I still have not received an estimate.
They told me three times they would provide an estimate the day I called and I never received an estimate or a call back explaining the situation.
In addition, the technician took the broken springs and other parts from all of the window so even if I wanted to get another window repair company to do the job it would be tough for them to figure out what the replacement parts would be, maybe impossible.
As far as I am concerned they now owe me $65 and some broken window parts (to have another company look into the repair).

Prior to re-cording the windows the company representative performed an imprecise swab and dye type test on one window, and he informed me that the test show the presence of lead.  As a result, Blaine Windows charged me several hundred dollars extra for lead containment procedures.  I subsequently had the whole house tested by a DC certified lead based paint consultant company for less than $200. .  The consultant company sent paint samples taken from my house to a lab,, and the test results showed that none of the rooms in my house exceeded the EPA thresholds requiring lead containment procedures.  I strongly urge you to have your house tested for lead paint by a lab and not rely on Blaine Window's imprecise swab type test.  Reference certified lead based paint consultant company DC  http://doee.dc.gov/lead

In addition, the lead containment procedures used by Blaine Windows included the window repairmen closing themselves in each room of my house by shutting and sealing the doors and not allowing me into the rooms or able to see what they were doing in them.  This was really obnoxious, and the Blaine Window estimator should have informed me of this beforehand when he was at my house to perform the swab test.

Screen replacement went smoothly.  They had some unexpected difficulty with one of the windows but worked at it until it was fixed nicely.  For the patio door, they found that they were unable to repair it as envisioned and that it needed to be replaced.  After discussion, they adjusted the price appropriately.  They worked hard and did a nice job overall.
