Arco Painting & Remodeling LLC

I received a text from German a couple of months ago asking if I had any jobs for him to do.  I have used Arco painting in the past, so I asked him to come and give me an estimate on the interior painting I needed in my 3 level town house.  I had several other companies bid for the job as well.  German came out and worked up an estimate that he e-mailed me several days after coming out.   It said he would do the entire job with Labor AND materials for $2,350.  That was about 100 more than anaother company quoted me, but I have used Arco in the past and they did good work, so I accepted.  German asked for a 50% deposit to "hold the date and paint".  Ok, so based on the quote, and the fact that the deposit was for "holding paint" I assumed (apparently incorectly) that "materials" doesn not include paint.  I guess "materials" means drop cloths, paint sticks, brushes, whatever.  Everything BUT paint.  This was NOT made clear to me in his estimate.  So, after going back and forth the majority of the evening, German agrees too split the cost of the paint.  Ok, I really have no choice at this point since he has cashed my deposit.  I ask him for an estimate of paint.  He says a maximum of 9 gallons at about 30 bucks a gallon.  Ok, so that is going to be 135 dollars more.  Well, after finishing, he leaves me a bill on my dining room table that has $270.00 in Home Depot and Duron costs.  When I asked him if he remembered our deal is response was  "It was ONLY 9 gallons I had enough flate white for the ceilings from another job".  Huh??  What has that got to do with our agreement??  At this point I was tired of arguing with him  He was supposed to do another job for my on the roof, but I just told him to forget it.  He pretty much burned his bridge with me.  I figure this little  episode over $270.00 cost him about a thousand dollars in future work I have to do at my house over the next 6-8 months..
It's a shame too, because his crew did a great job with the painting.  I have no complaints about how the job looked.  One minor complaint would be that they cleaned their brushes in my kitchen sink, and didn't do a good job of cleaning the sink afterward.  There was also one little missed spot in the bedroom, but nothing I can't fix with a small brush.  So, if you decide to use Arco, make sure to get an itemized list of "materials" prior to accepting the quote. 

We had water entering the home during heavy rain and it was showing in the walls but not the ceiling or windows/doors.  This was  a fully renovated home we purchased in May of 2012 which shocked us as to how we could have a leak like this. 
German visited the home, looked at the damage from the water and spent a few hours inspecting the outside of the home. After his inspection he produced pictures and line items of what was causing the water damage.  It was very specific and visuals from the pictures really helped me understand what was causing the damage. 
He walked me through the damage and what had to be done to repair the concern areas.  He provided an estimate for the work he could see and began work shortly after. During the repairs he noticed poor workmanship and an even bigger problem with how my outside wall was built.  The builders put siding on studs and skipped the plywood and tyvek.  This made the leaks even worse because even though there were gaps in the workmanship on the outside, the inside of the walls weren't providing any protection from the elements. 
German could see how difficult this was for us and was able to provide us with a very reasonable quote to complete the already agreed on work and to fix the wall with the proper materials. Since the work was completed we haven't had any more water damage and we feel very satisfied with his workmanship. 
He and his team were always on time, worked hard and kept my home and yard clean.  They were respectful of our schedules and of the budget.  He completed all the work he committed to and never went over budget.  It was an extremely refreshing experience to work with someone who is so professional.

My husband and I have used Arco for over 10 years. In fact, we do not work with any other company for our painting, small renovation work, gutter clean-up, or yard work. We can always count on professional service from German, the owner, and his crew. His dad started the business and that's how we started with the company. We love Arco!!
