The cat is doing fine.

They work us in quick, the quality is good and we like the people there. We like them but quite frankly we don't use them all the time because of the prices. We use A Cat Practice Inc for special needs.

I was a little hesitant to use a Cat Practice for a second time, because when I brought him the first time, which was for a dental cleaning in July 2012, I was required to leave the cat, and I was not allowed to observe the dental cleaning.  Nevertheless, A Cat Practice is close to where I live, so when my cat became ill during 2015 I brought him back for a diagnostic exam.  While the technician at A Cat Practice wiped down the counter where my cat was examined, the examination room floor was covered with cat hairs and the other counters were very dirty.  The veterinarian who performed a diagnostic exam concluded that my cat has irritable bowel syndrome.  Despite administering the prescribed antibiotic, my cat's symptoms persisted, and so 10 weeks later I decided to bring my cat to a veterinarian at The Washington Animal Rescue League, who performed the same type of diagnostic exam.  However, this veterinarian spent much more time feeling the cats underside, and informed me that my cat has a hard, kiwi fruit sized, cancerous growth in its belly.  I think that such a large growth should have been identified during the earlier examination at A Cat Practice.

A Cat Practice is a great cat-centric vet to go to. We recently got a kitten from a shelter who had fleas, ear mites, and a respiratory infection. The Cat Practice was able to give her medication for all of her issues, and took the time to check her out. They gave her a really thorough ear cleaning and gave me information on flea prevention and the next steps. Since she was so ill I called on Monday to make the appointment and they were able to see her the same day.

The cat vet at this location was fine. However the receptionist got into a loud unprofessional argument with another client. The receptionist was so rude that had I been her employer I would have fired her on the spot. She was so loud and the interaction made me feel so uncomfortable that I will never return again.

"I am very sorry to hear about your experience. Our records indicate that you were seen last back in October 2013. Are you writing about the correct office and time? We would like to address the employee that was on that day so if you could please confirm that would be very much appreciated. We look forward to hearing back from you and trying to fix the problem."

Great experience overall! Everyone there was very courteous and professional. They were a little behind schedule for my appointment but that is to be expected from time to time. I chose a cats only practice to take advantage of the added expertise that comes with focusing on one type of client and I was not disappointed. The absence of dogs in the waiting room created a slightly less stressful environment. My cat was allowed to get acclimated to the exam room for a few minutes prior to getting checked out. Dr. Puscheck was very knowledgeable and gave me some great advice on keeping my cat healthy. I found the price to be very reasonable. I definitely recommend A Cat Practice to anyone looking for a place to take their favorite feline.

While I've only been using the clinic for two months, it seems like longer because one cat developed a life-threatening urinary blockage that required quite a bit of follow up and all three cats had overdue dental work performed. Mostly, the cats have seen Dr. Puscheck, who is great with them. She's very thorough (for example, she took time to call the emergency clinic and the other veterinary clinic that had seen my obstructed cat, requesting that they fax their records of the incident, before she developed her treatment plan), very gentle with the cats, and is genuinely interested in working me with to do whatever it takes to keep my big boy healthy in the future. I think their tendency toward being thorough is what drives up the price, but it is a fair balance in my opinion. My other two cats had pre-dental blood work with an annual check up then the teeth cleaning with extractions which, in sum, set me back over $1200. I also really like the techs there as well. I recommend this clinic.

My 16 year old cat had been losing weight for awhile and I wanted to get blood work done to confirm my assumption that she has hyper-thyroid issues. I called first to get an estimate for the exam and blood work. I was quoted approximately $240. For the appointment, we saw Dr. Lisa Puscheck. The paperwork she brought in with the quote for the "gold standard work up" was approximately $100 higher. I told her I called to get a quote and miraculously, one of the techs came in at that very moment with a different piece of paper with the quote I was given. I asked the doctor to explain the difference between the two quotes and what came in the "gold standard package". As I listened and then clarified that there really was no difference, her only response was, "yeah, I guess you're right." This seemed super shady - offering different prices and for no difference in service??
When the blood work results came back (on time, as promised), Dr. Heather Dearie called to discuss the results and all options. She was very helpful. Ultimately, we decided to purchase the medication for our cat from them. I picked up the two prescriptions and came home. A few days later, I noticed that one of the prescriptions was missing about half of the tablets. It was supposed to contain 30 pills but didn't even last me a week (2 pills/day). I called them and they told me to come pick up the rest. No explanation was offered. No apology was offered either. So I picked them up that day. When I got there, a tech handed them to me (no charge) and I asked if they had any explanation as to why half of the prescription was missing. She said, "well, mistakes sometimes happen." Again, no apology. I understand mistakes happen but this was a big one. And a sketchy one. And no apology.
We will see through this diagnosis with this cat but will not return beyond that. I appreciate honesty and they don't seem to have it.

I moved here from San Francisco about a year ago and it was time fro my cats to get the check ups and shots. I started calling around to vets in DC and was getting quoted a $70-90 exam fee and $20 - $40 per shot . WHAT?!?!?!? That's almost double what I paid in San Francisco, absolutely ridiculous! I talked to one of my coworkers and she absolutely raved about A Cat Practice, a little further away but where she has been taking her baby for years.
I called on Monday 10/28 to find out pricing and make an appointment for 2 cats for their check up and shots. $117 for visit and shots and if I brought both cats in at the same time I would get a $10 discount on the second cat! Score! Now to make an appointment, knowing I needed a weekend appointment I expected to wait a few weeks so I asked for their first available Saturday appointment for 2 cats. Their response, "We can get you in this weekend, would you like a morning or afternoon appointment." What, really?!?! A Saturday appointment for the same week! Even better.
When we got there, filled out what I could of the paper work, handed them all my cat's history and they pulled out the rest. Went into the exam room and both my cats were immediately at home. On the counters, table and chair; exploring everything. The tech came in to take their temperature and weigh them. No need to pick them up, the first cat jumped right on to the exam table! Such an easy visit on both my cats, we were out of there with in 40 minutes. Unbelievable. Everyone there was genuinely interested iin my cats and their health. I would highly recommend A Cat Practice to anyone... now if I could just find a good cat sitter...

They gave us suggestion on types of cat food to use to help her gain weight and provided some medication to use when necessary. Our cat does not like going to the vet at all, becomes physco city and requires sedation. This cat clinic used a kitty gas mask to sedate her, which was really beneficial because she came out of it all at once. Unlike other vets that use injection and certain parts of her body would gain feeling before others which terrified her. They were very friendly.
Response from A Cat Practice Inc
"Thank you for your review. Glad we can help you and your kitty feel as comfortable as possible even when its not the greatest thing to go to the vet for any animal. Look forward to seeing you all in the future"

I have a 14 year old manx male, he can be very grumpy when taken to the vet and has been a sedation only cat at other practices. The staff at a cat practice knew right away how to handle him in a gentle and nice manor (he is very aggressive). They gave me an estimate for the total cost of $325 which they call their senior special. They informed me they would try to work with me and him so he would not be sedated and I dont know what they did but he was very calm for the exam and vaccines. They let me stay with him the whole time instead of taking him to the back. I saw everything they did to him with the blood draw which I found really cool and nice.(cause you never know whats going on in the back). After everything was done my grumpy old man still had a little protest but no one was harmed and I was very impressed with the staff and the Doctor. I definitely recommend this practice to all feline owners. There are no dogs, very clean, nice place. Nothing but good things to say.

I called in the a.m. because my 16-year-old cat had not eaten in three days, was barely drinking water, and was becoming weaker and weaker. The vet I had seen a few days earlier at another clinic did not return my urgent phone calls, and I could not get an appointment. When I called A Cat Practice, they gave me an appointment the same day. Dr. Reidy was excellent. Although they were unable to diagnose the cat (blood work was fine, xrays showed nothing), we discussed options and and alternatives. She provided appetite stimulant, anti-nausea, antibiotics, hydrated the cat, basically did everything that could be done in the way of treatment without further (and expensive) diagnostics. In two days, my cat was almost back to normal. Given the cat's age and the lack of diagnosis (I decided not to do ultrasound, since we're not going to treat it if it's cancer--she's too old), we know that she is likely to have recurring problems, but for now everythin is A-OK. Dr. Reidy said she would call in two days to follow up, and was true to her word. I called her again about a week later to talk about what to do next, since we're not sure if future treatment would be needed. She took the phone call right away, and answered my concerns and questions. Whatever happens from this point forward, I know that Dr. Reidy and the people at A Cat Practice are there to help us get through it one way or another. I have confidence in her ability and her advice, and most of all, she's there when you need her. I can't recommend A Cat Practice enough.

The office staff were friendly and professional. It was nice that there are no dogs and no dog smell, I think that made it less traumatic for my skittish cat. The vet was good with the cat and did a physical examination. He explained clearly what he thought the problem could be, how he might determine a diagnosis and what treatments would be available for different problems. I was contacted by phone promptly when the test results were available and given a detailed description of the results and some advice for initial treatment and potential follow-up treatments if that didn't work.

They are great. They are a little more expensive. I have had friends say they are expensive but they are so good. I have found another vet close to me that I think is good and I use more frequently. They interacted well with my cat. I have nothing bad to say about them. They had to put 1 cat to sleep. I think they are great, the other location is just closer to me.

The visit went very smoothly and I never feel like I'm being rushed when I visit this vet. They take their time to carefully look at the cat, explain the next steps and options to me and answer all my questions. And they are a "cat only" practice so one can assume they know what they are doing. I believe they do!

I oddly enough found the Cat Practice just looking through the phone book. I'm glad I gave them a call, because they are a warm, cat loving group of people. They know me and my cats on a first name basis, and have treated them for a bunch of ailments. I am always able to get an appointment when I need it. They have a great range of hours for those who have to work for the day. All the staff is courteous and knowledgeable, adn the genuinely care for your pet.

Everything went well. The only remark I have is that we were not told at the front desk that the cat was going to be visited by a part-time vet, who immediately qualified himself as such. He then turned out to be extremely professional, courteous and attentive.

I have been taking our cat to A Cat Practice for several years now - both for regular checkups and for specific treatment. In the case of the hyperthyroidism (and as always), the staff has been extremely competent, patient, and friendly. I highly recommend them.
