Daniel Krienbuehl Contractors Inc
About us
Daniel started his construction career in 1983 as an apprentice in Switzerland, Europe. There he learned from experienced old school carpenters how to timber frame and build log houses. Cutting mortise and tenons for structural posts is still something that's done today. Since the late 80's, Daniel has learned all about the ever-changing U.S. construction industry. Daniel started his own remodeling company in 2001 and has since designed and built many additions and remodels in and around Montgomery County, MD. Due to years of experience, Daniel is able to make design changes that make construction easier and cheaper. He has proved himself to be a great communicator so that all parties involved in a remodeling project work as one. His ability to plan, schedule, and execute projects have made jobs less stressful and more rewarding for his clients. Things most frequently mentioned in client reviews are that Daniel and DK are staying within budget, getting the job done on time, are responsive and available, have clean and organized job sites, and are experienced. "Hi [member name removed], Thanks for writing a review. Sorry that we were not the right match for this project, but we hope that everything worked out for you in the end. Best, Daniel"
"Our records show that we were contacted by the Customer on April 4, 2012. We agreed to do a site visit on April 10th at 7 PM. I don’t remember being late for the meeting. No drawings or specifications were on hand to price the work accurately, so we based the estimated cost on similar projects we did in the past. We submitted a written estimate to the Customer's on April 16th. We have never heard back, by phone or email, until this post (7 Months later). Please do not hesitate to contact us. We will respond as quickly and accurately as possible. Daniel Krienbuehl"
And go to it did. The very next day they were on site starting demolition, and by the end of the week there was a big hole in the kitchen that eventually turned into a big bay window. Construction proceeded apace for three and a half months. Daniel had his crew there every single day, as well as subcontractors as needed. He did a great job coordinating all the work, and we kept busy making sure that we had chosen all the materials he needed. While there were some oddities about how our house was constructed that caused changes in the plan, Daniel handled those with grace. Even things that went wrong were taken care of, for example when the painters accidentally primed some wood paneling we were planning on not painting due to the cost - Daniel got them to paint it all at no additional charge. Everything finished right on time and within the budget we had agreed upon in advance, absent some changes we asked for along the way. We couldn't ask for much more than that, and the high-quality of the work was just a bonus.
A few words about Daniel - his background and formal training is in construction and building (in Switzerland, where he is from), and he is very experienced in the area. He is laid back and easy to deal with, and kept us very involved in the process, which worked for us (the other contractors had more of a "choose some stuff from our showroom, and we will have you over when it was done"). In fact, he had us out at the site almost every day to go over what had been done the day before and what was being done that day and in the future. That let us catch problems early and have a say in how to fix them. He also only works on one site at a time, and while we were waiting together one day for something, he told me how he had to pass up some higher paying work because he had already committed his time elsewhere. This just shows his high level of integrity.
He has great subcontractors. They did high-quality work.
I would absolutely recommend Daniel for other work, and have already done so. We happen to be done for a while, though we have some other smaller projects we will ask Daniel to bid on in the future.
During Construction: Daniel was on site every day and if needed would meet with us to review the progress and to inform us of coming events. We were very informed throughout the entire process. They started the project on time and finished on time and within budget. They kept our house amazingly clean, especially given the amount of work we had done.
Post Construction: The quality of the construction is excellent and seamlessly flows the existing portions of the house. Daniel was happy to provide contact information for his suppliers and sub contractors for a couple of items we needed to have done after construction. Now, 6 months after completion, Daniel remains available and responsive to answer questions and make recommendations.
I would absolutely use Daniel again in the future and have recommended him to everyone I know who is in need of contracting services.
Two days before he was to do the job, he called and asked if he could come over to bring the ladder, and also to take one more look at the space just to be sure he would have everything he needed and to remeasure so there would be no surprises. By doing that he discovered that the beams that the stairs were to be installed between were placed a bit too close, so they were going to have to do some work to get them pushed out to make the stairs fit. It was good that he knew that in advance. When the day came for the job, Daniel and his crew showed up bright and early, exactly at the time he said they would, and started right away. As the day went on, I was sure there was no way they were going to finish it all in one day and would have to come back, but they proved me wrong! And they even finished up at a normal 'end of the day' time - 5:00. I was very happy with the job, and his whole crew. They were friendly and courteous and worked very hard! I baked them some cookies at the end of their day to thank them!!
I would happily recommend Daniel to anyone needing any kind of work done inside their home. I hope to be able to have him help me with some additional projects in the coming year.
He provided several references to flooring, fixtures, carpet, doors and other items so that I could research on my own. Our basement was unfinished so we started from scratch. His workers were punctual and courteous even bringing their own microwave for lunch as not to disturb the homeowner. They worked quickly and cleaned up after each day. The subcontractors were courteous and punctual as well (sometimes early) working very quickly to finish the job. The quality of the work was excellent. Daniel responded very quickly to any changes, modifications, questions I had by personally taking of care of the issue or having his subs respond to any issues. For example, the doors were installed with brass hinges. I sent Daniel an email asking if they could be replaced with nickel hinges. Without question, the next morning, his workers were replacing the hinges and door knobs with the nickel type. This attention to detail and attention to the homeowner is why I would use Daniel Krienbuehl contractors again.
UPDATE: I have received a return phone call and have a scheduled appointment. Unfortunately they could not make an appointment for another 2 weeks, but at least I'm not in a hurry to get the project completed. I will update again after I receive their estimate.
"I am sorry that I missed your call. If you still need our services, please feel to free to contact us anytime and we will call you back. Regards, Daniel Krienbuehl"
