CHIMNEY'S UNLIMITED

It was easy. They checked the system. They briefed my on how it operated and what to look for. No problems.

Dave arrived promptly and called me when he arrived so I could leave work to meet him at my house. He had already inspected the two chimneys from the roof, and installed new chimney caps in the 10 minutes it took me to arrive home.
In the house, he layed down a canvas tarp to protect the floor. Dave was able to find the dead squirrel that had fallen down the chimney and remove it without much trouble.
We never had work like this done so we didn't know how much of a mess it would create in the house. Dave was careful and there was no mess.
The price might sound high to get rid of a dead squirrel, but most of that was installation of the stainless steel caps. The squirrel removal was only $25.
Overall, I was very pleased with their service.

Called numerous vendors, they all wanted an arm and leg. I called Dave and he gave a reasonable estimate, told me when he could do the work. Although he didn't call again - he showed up exactly when he said. His workmanship was excellent, polite, professional, and cleaned up my whole fireplace. Did a great job.

I was noticing that when it rained a lot with high winds, I was getting water in my fireplace even though the chimney is capped off (work previously done by Chimneys Unlimited when I bought the house 3 yrs ago). I called Chimneys Unlimited and was given and estimate to have the crown replaced and the mortar repointed. Since I have a sandstone chimney, which is very porous, Mr. Meyers proposed an overhanging crown where water would drip off the top of chimney. I had gotten a quote from someone else and they just proposed putting a sealant on the existing crown and nothing about repointing the mortar. I talked in great detail to Mr. Meyers about this and he explained that the existing crown has separated from the chimney and that just sealing it would probably not solve my problem as the water would just roll around the edges and be absorbed into the chimney. I agreed to have his work performed and the work he did looks great and he did it in a timely manner (he had a cancellation), although he said he is very busy right now (8/7/08 - due to increasing fuel costs people are switching to wood). There haven't been any great rain storms yet to see if the work was successful, but I'm hopeful the issue is resolved.
