Dec 2014
It's almost the end of the year, so I'm cleaning up details and it looks like they have moved from their prior office on Mayo Rd. in Edgewater.
Anyway, I contracted Sellars Concrete to replace a badly cracked and sunken driveway at on of my rental properties.
They came out on January 2, 2014, demolished the old concrete and did site prep, which took about a week. Then the concrete was poured on a day when the temperature was just above freezing and the concrete was too stiff to be poured so more water was added to increase the workability.
Normally concrete is designed with a certain workability, which means it can be conveyed to the pour site using smooth rounded chutes and still maintain its composition and not segregate. Adding more water to make it pourable or looser usually causes segregation, not to mention the adverse effects of the additional water on the strength of the concrete, slower setting times and increasingly prone to cracking.
Not only did the concrete take a long time to set, but a month later, the cement washed off the surface exposing the aggregate (segregated) and developed a long diagonal crack.
I called Jason and mentioned the problem. He came out to look at the job and agreed, said he would cut it out and repour the concrete. That was in February . . . fast forward to June, I call again and still no action until I call once more in August. They must not have been busy at the time so Jason sent 2 men over with a bag of concrete dressing to correct the problem. They only did the part with the crack and aggregate is still visible elsewhere, and looks like an ancient Roman artifact. So I call again and left messages, again and again with no response.
There are more responsive concrete contractors in the Annapolis area, I suggest due diligence.

Some advice to any new customers: Do call Sellars for any concrete work you may be considering in the Washington - Baltimore Metroplex.
Do ask them for advice on any aspects you may be unsure of. It will be good, it may save you money, and they will explain in detail why they would suggest it.
Don't try to keep a straight face when Site Inspector and quot;Tankand quot; shows up. He's limited in the Social Graces Department, not the brightest bulb in the Canine world, and perfectly (obliviously) adorable.
