Ron Janeski installed the moldings around the windows(6).He then proceeded to do the door trim. When I saw the trim on the doors,I did not like how they were done.Ron refused to change them.I called into work to tell them I would be late to talk to Ron about it,but Ron did not show up at his usual time(9:30).When I called him he told me he had to be somewhere else that day and had told me the night before.not true.So I missed a half days work and nothing happened at my house.Met with Ron the next day.worked everything out.gave Ron the 2nd installment check. When I got home the next night,I noticed the baseboards were an inch too tall and would never meet up with the orig baseboards by hallway steps because of the diff height.I pointed this out to Ron the next day and he said he couldn't please me and turned around and left.I called him several times but he did not answer the phone till later that day after 3 or 4 attempts.Asked him to come n the morning so we could come to a solution and get this job finished. When he arrive,he was not willing to change anything about the baseboards even though they were clearly too tall.He would not budge on anything.Said he would never be able to please? me.I begged him to please finish the job.Ron refused and then had the audacity to ask for his final check!I now have a half finished job and am out $1600.Would never use this 'contractor' again.
"The agreement was to install trim around the windows, doors and install baseboard on the 1st floor. The custom trim was to be built exactly like the existing trim on the 2nd floor. There was no trim at all on the 1st floor when I started. I spent the first 2 days gathering materials and working in between rain storms being my equipment needed to be set up outside. By the 3rd day I had trimmed most of the doors. The 4th day when I arrived the customer seemed agitated because although I replicated the trim from the 2nd floor, the ceiling was low over 1 door. The existing door in another room was shorter than the others, the ceiling over another door is low and the wall is not plumb. I explained to her that I built the trim exactly the way she asked me to. I took the time to explain to her that these issues have nothing to do with the trim that I built. Finally she understood and asked me to move to trimming the windows. On the 5th day I recieved a phone call in the morning from the customer wondering what time I would be there, I told her around noon. She then sent me a text message asking me not to do any more work until we talk and asked me to meet her at 5:30. We met, again she seemed agitated with the way I built a window sill. We came to an agreement about that. On the 6th day I trimmed all the windows. On the 7th day I built and installed the baseboard for more than half the project using the exact measurements as the upstairs trim and using the base shoe and base cap that she chose. I showed up on the 8th day and she was agitated again saying the baseboard is too tall and wanted me to tear it all out and re-do it. I explained that I built it exactly the way she instructed me and that I was not going to replace it for free. She stood staring at the floor for about 10 minutes insisting I tear it out. I left hoping she would realize that I built it the way she asked me to. I soon recieved a phone call from her but did not answer it because I was driving. She did not leave a voice mail. A few minutes later I recieved a text message stating "could you meet me at my house tomorrow morning? If you really want to quit, we will settle up then. I hope not. I would rather find a solution. Please let me know". On the 9th day I arrived and there were roofers and siding people working on the house occuping the area where I set up my equipment each day. I explained to her and her husband that I have a family to provide for, she has asked me not to work 2 different days and now I can't work today because of the workers on the outside of the house. I needed to go to another job where I could work. They insisted that I stay and finish the project. They said that my work was beautiful, everybody they showed was impressed and that I was a perfectionist. They admitted that they made a mistake and forgot that they raised the floor 1 inch and that is why the baseboard seemed high. They said that everything looks fine. I proceeded to gather my tools and equipment. I asked to settle up for the $280.00 of materials that I gave reciepts for 2 days earlier. They said they were not going to reimburse me for the materals. I then gathered some of the trim that I had purchased ($38.06) and proceeded to my truck. I then heard something hit the ground behind me. It was one of my tool boxes. They had thrown it out the door at my back from about 30 feet away almost hitting me. I left the job about 85% finished. They had paid me for 66% or $1600.00. Our agreement was labor plus the cost of materials. So the trim that they are accusing me of stealing is actually mine. As for the pictures of the receptacle and the light switch, she never told me she had an electrian coming to move them until after I built this trim around them. I agreed to leave a full piece of trim that would be installed after they were moved."
We had Ron come out to give an estimate as well as two other contractors. Ron called the same day with an estimate after he went to home depot to get prices for materials. Another contractor never called and the other took over a week to come back with an estimate which was much higher. Ron was extremely attentive to everything we wanted done and was honest. about what should be done. We asked his opinion on several things and he never tried to add things just to get more money. I could tell the moment Ron called later that day that he was a go-getter and wanted the work so we hired him.
Ron came with a helper and they both worked very hard and were more than accommodating to our busy/hectic family life at home. We are also gearing up to move so we had boxes everywhere that they had to work around. We have a toddler and dogs so there were a lot of working parts to clear out space to let them work but they were more than happy to work around our lives. Every time we bumped into Ron we were met with a smile and never heard a complaint from him even though I am sure we got in his way plenty of times.
Ron and his helper worked at our house for 4 long days, he provided all the material except the screen door to the back porch and the carpet to be installed. The total price was extremely reasonable and Ron does FANTASTIC work. He even went above and beyond and touched up extra areas in the bathroom of poorly laid sheetrock from the previous owners.
I couldn't be more pleased with Ron and his helper, they were great and we would hire them in an instant if we were moving around this area. I highily, HIGHLY recommend Ron.
"You were a pleasure to work for! You went out of your way to clear the areas needing work of moving boxes so we could do our job. We always felt welcome and appreciated working in your home. Please feel free to call again! Thank You! Ron"
I had put out job requests to 4 contractors, and this one was the only one who replied. I'm sure glad he did get back to me, now my repairs are complete and I would use him for other jobs. Have also shared his info with my friends.
-installing new flooring in a previous home
-installng a drain in a basement stair well (in this instance Ron saved us $2k+ by installing a drain vs replacing Bilco doors).
-Painting master bedroom and bathroom
Ron seems very busy, however he has been honest about his availability and has kept his word when it comes to scheduling. I will continue to happily seek out Finger Lakes when I'm looking at repairs and upgrades to my home.
