We received absolutely superb emergency services at an extremely reasonable cost from Flood Smith. To provide context: Our neighbor's pipe burst on January 15, 2016, which was the day a historic blizzard was scheduled to hit D.C. We found out that the water leak had flooded our basement/crawl space area in the early afternoon, just as the snowstorm was beginning. The water was filling the space at a rapid clip and had already caused our boiler and hot water heater to malfunction, such that the home was without heat and hot water. I quickly researched water extraction companies and found Flood Smith, which had excellent reviews. I called Ray and explained the situation to him, convinced that he would never be willing to drive into a blizzard to help out. But Ray immediately agreed to come and set our right away to gather the necessary equipment and make the trek to our house. Ray realized there was a chance he could get caught in the blizzard and be unable to drive home, and he planned carefully which vehicle to bring to maximize his ability to drive in the snow. Ray kept me updated on his progress and his timing, and he arrived at our home in record time considering the poor road conditions.
Once he arrived, Ray set to work pumping out the water, which was many feet high in the crawl space area. He was professional and proactive in dealing with the situation. We really appreciated how he clearly explained what he was doing, what his next steps would be, and why he was taking those actions. Ray was able to extract all of the water from the flooded area. He also helped us reset our hot water heater so that the house wouldn't be without hot water during the course of the blizzard (which ultimately shut down the city through the weekend and for several days into the next week).
Our neighbor's burst pipe had also flooded another home, and Ray went over there after he finishing extracting our water to see if he could help those neighbors out as well. They had another company helping them, but the company's equipment was working quite slowly. Ray pitched in to help get the water out of their flooded basement faster.
After he was finished getting the water out, Ray set us up with dehumidifiers, and he subsequently performed remediation measures in the flooded area to guard against mold.
Ray performed all of this work at an exceptionally reasonable cost. He could have charged us with an exorbitant emergency services rate considering the situation we were in and the weather outside, but he was clearly focused on helping us out and getting the job done rather than trying to profit from our misfortune.
We could not be happier with the services we received from Flood Smith. It was bad luck to have our house flood right as a blizzard was hitting the city -- but we certainly had a stroke of good luck when we found Ray from Flood Smith to help us solve the problem. I would unequivocally recommend this company to anyone.
I have had yet to meet a company in this industry that had customer service on their priority list. FloodSmith had to be the first, they were extremely courteous and very helpful. Explained the process to us step by step and showed as the progress as they moved along. We would definitely use them again.
