We had an ongoing relationship with SilkRock for about a year. We initially contracted with them to redo our kitchen and proceeded to add projects including building a closet, and refinishing our basement. Initially the quality of the work was excellent. I can say without hesitation that Michael Morgan is very talented. Our relationship broke down when SilkRock agreed to remodel our basement and gave us an estimate of ten days for completion. Four months later the project was not completed. The work that was performed was largely completed by subcontractors without the supervision of Michael or anyone from SilkRock. Needless to say it is substandard. The paint is peeling off the walls. Lightbulbs are dangling from fixtures that were not completed. Trim is not installed in some areas. We have also been contacted by a subcontractor complaining that he was not paid for work he performed for SilkRock on our property more than 6 months prior.  Our disappointment in the drop in the quality of work that went into our basement was compounded significantly by the delay:  we received constant assurances that work would be completed by a date certain, only to have the deadline pass without anything being done.  Likewise, we received countless promises that problems with the work would be fixed, only to be left holding the bag.  We gave Silkrock the benefit of the doubt, but in the final summation, we believe they made promises they knew the couldn't keep, and still took our money.

SilkRock finished our basement: updated windows, door, put hardwood floor in, moved washer and dryer to a different room, fixed walls and put baseboard heat in.  Overall I was very happy with them. My only concern was that the work ran quite a bit longer than they originally estimated. There were a few delays because they were working on another project along with mine and they had to wait for parts several times. I just thought they would be done sooner. Other than that, the quality of work and professionalism was excellent. Now that it is done it is beautiful and is done well. They didn't take any short cuts. They happen to live in the area and that is one of the reasons I selected them along with their reasonable prices. I have their assurance that if something is wrong they will come back and take a look. They were communicating with me throughout, even when there were delays. I will use them again in the future, but will ask for a more accurate project duration estimate.

I was very happy with them. Most of the other companies I called didn't call me back. I actually didn't pay anything because the first time I used them the work wasn't permanent so they came back to fix it. It was around $100 the first time. The job went well. The first time they came it was for water damage.

They started in early October. They spent a lot of time with us talking about different design options. Miguel is the guy that we are working with. He has really great, new, and fresh ideas. He has good attention to detail and thought about things that we wouldn't have thought about. We are really happy with him so far. We would definitely recommend them. They came in around the same price as some other people that we had bid on it. They probably spent more time with us talking about what kind of design options we had, which we appreciated. The project is taking much longer than we anticipated which is kind of frustrating but they are working so it is not that they are just not showing up so we can't complain too much. It's not done yet but we have no complaints so far and we have been happy with them.

They are doing a good job. They are very thorough and flexible. They are currently moving a bathtub in. They are very professional. I am spending $7000 on the project. I will use them again in the future.

SilkRock was my last hope - all the so-called experts told me that something was wrong with the pipes, or the panel itself, replacing cartridge with supposed "hairline" cracks, and bascially beating on the unit, without a clue as to how to take it off the wall and inspect. SilkRock came in - identified a broken supply tube, and in less than 2 hrs, including the trip to the store, saved the day.

SilkRock came over to assess the space, and then provided us with a detailed, labor-only contract, along with an estimate of material costs. Demolition began within a week. At one point, it became necessary to remove and replace a wall. Since this was not in the contract, and because the contract I signed did not include installation of ~45 s.f. of tile wainscoting (an item that was discussed, but omitted from the contract), we paused work for about a week to negotiate an addendum. In all, the addendum increased labor costs by about 10%, and was partly necessary due to unforeseen circumstances and partly due to my own oversight. Here I will emphasize that SilkRock is extremely transparent in their contracting procedures, and more than fair when it comes to doing things not explicitly on the contract but necessary to do the job right. After this little hiccup, the work proceeded and went straight through to the end. Overall, the job took about 8 weeks, including the pause, the Christmas/New Year holidays, and delays attributable to vendors (and my own ordering mistake). This was slightly longer than the window identified on the contract, but I was very pleased with the pace of work and the number of helpers brought in to do the work, and SilkRock structured the work so that it did not impinge on our day-to-day life. We are extremely pleased with the result. I have some experience in the building trades myself, and I will say that I learned more than a thing or two from watching SilkRock work. (They were also open to my suggestions about how best to proceed, and communication was very good at every level). I was very impressed with the level of detail and craftsmanship that went into constructing our bathroom. I will mention just a few examples about Michael's work that stood out to me. (1) Michael does not just frame out a wall willy-nilly. Before he drives a single nail, he carefully plans everything that is going to happen in connection with that wall. For instance, he framed out an opening to accommodate a 48" glass shower door. Six weeks later -- after installation of hardibacker, thinset, tile, grout, trim, and nearby electrical outlet -- the unalterable glass door arrived and fit into the space exactly. (2) Michael is very creative at coming up with architecturally appropriate matches, even if he has to build them up out of odd parts that he mills on a router himself. (3) Michael is very sensitive to the appropriate ways to install natural materials like wood and stone - he matches grain, color, and pattern with an eye to a high quality finished product. (4) We brought up an original, 100-year-old door to use as the bathroom door. It was the wrong size, the wrong shape, and had decades of bad paint on it. Now that Michael has finished working with it, the door sits in its opening with a uniform 1/8" gap on all sides, it is level, plumb, and square, it opens and latches perfectly, and it looks great.
