The piano technician was very friendly and punctual (to the minute). He tuned a piano that we recently acquired from a family member. The piano had not been tuned in years so we knew this was going to take some work. The technician did a great job of giving the piano an initial tuning and recommended additional work on the keys at a later date, which seems reasonable considering the time passed since the last tuning. He even went the extra step of calling his office to date the piano since it is an antique. I appreciated that a lot.

It went great! It took three visits because the piano needed lubricating before it could be tuned and there was no additional charge. We are thoroughly satisfied and would most definitely use them again!!

The piano needed tuning badly. The technician arrived on time, tuned the piano, and recommended that the next tuning be done by a specialist within his organization to refine some of the piano movements in the upper register.

It went very well. Very clean, very quick. He has tuned it a few times in between as well, and they've always been excellent. Always on time as well!

It was wonderful! They were extremely professional. They overcame adversarial circumstances, steps. They were on time, clean. They were perfect! They set the piano up, were congenial. They were 100% professional! I am a professional pianist and have been playing for 40 years and know what a good piano sounds like!

After one month I called to check on status. Parts had not been received and main tech on vacation. No date given for when work would be completed. Steinway can ship these parts within days. Understanding that I was not satisfied with this breach of promise and waste of over a month of my time, the owner offered to refund my deposit and return the action. Still waiting for the refund of my deposit and may have to contact my Visa card company for action.
Response from Schaeffer's Piano
"Customer was told that parts may take up to 60 days to come in. At the same time, we were servicing the Embassy of Peru's Steinway, and Georgetown University's Chapel's Steinway. Parts were ordered at the same time for ALL Steinway pianos (appx. $18,000 worth) from Steinway, and customer was upset that it took too long to receive parts. We agreed to disagree, and returned [member name removed] piano action (which he received) and credited his $2,000 toward his credit card. Apparently, the credit card company took a long time to credit his card (which we feel prompted this review from him), but as of this writing we know he has long received his money. When we have to order parts from Steinway, we know it takes a long time to do so. Notwithstanding, we initially told customer that it may take up to 2 months. We would much rather have done the job and have a happy customer, but there's nothing we can do if the parts had not come in yet. Besides, when a customer calls in and demands that we do something about servicing his keyboard action regardless of the disposition of the ordering of the parts, and proceeds to bombast an innocent employee with disparaging remarks, made it very simple to politely return his action and refund his money; which is what we did. There is nothing we can do but to politely inform the customer that the parts have NOT come in, and we will oblige him to the best of our ability if he cannot wait for said parts to come in. We are happy to be able to offer our side of the story here too. Thank you."

Bare bones operation. Basically two guys willing to lift pianos and a truck. They were 1/2 day late. No calls. Had no paperwork. No plan or equipment other than brute force. That said, the two movers were courteous, and got it done without any significant issues. A felt backing to underside of piano was torn from one leg when sliding it into place on a carpeted surface. Not a significant issue.

They sell pianos and they also offer piano tuning. Sometimes you get a free piano tuning out of the deal. You can sign up for regular tuning with them after the purchase. I have had the tuner guy come out several times. He is very punctual. He comes to my house and tunes the piano really well. He gives me a lot of information. He talks quite a bit, but he does a good job. It’s fun to hear him play. He is very good at what he does. He is a conversationalist. I spent about $140 to $150 for the last service. It was the recommended standard service. There was definitely nothing extra. I don’t believe there is any discount version. I haven’t done any comparison shopping on the price.

People with Schaeffer’s Piano Company are very knowledgeable. Their knowledge is very well rounded. My piano was made by my grandfather. Only two were made and the people from Schaeffer’s Piano Company seemed to be very familiar with it. They did the appraisal on it for me. They have also stored my piano when I was overseas. However, I think that they stopped storing pianos couple of years ago. The people that come out to my home are always very pleasant. I would use them again in the future if required.
