I spoke to them on the phone and made it clear that I wanted an estimate only for the work. Every other company I dealt with gave an estimate over the phone. But Safe House insisted on sending someone--strike 1.The technician showed up for the appointment. I showed him what I needed. He gave me a quote and said he had the new garage door opener in his truck ready to install. I said, "Thanks, I will think it over and get back to you," and he said there is a service charge for coming out to the house. I told him I never agreed to that, particularly since I spoke to the representative over the phone who never mentioned it. --Strike 2.  I felt bad for the guy, since he came all the way out. So I told him to show me the model he had in the truck, still in the box. I checked it and told him I had a quote for the same model from another company for a lower price. But I would let him have the job if he could match the price. The technician hemmed and hawed. He could not match the price, so I agreed to let him do the job for more so that it would be done today. When he finished, he handed me the remote to test it. Everything worked. So I asked him about a second remote. He went back to the truck and brought out another remote and said it would cost $50 more. The remote just happened to be keyed to my garage door. I pulled up the garage door model on my phone and showed him the picture with 2 REMOTES in it, and told him this model comes with 2 remotes strike three. He hemmed and hawed again and said he had only quoted me the price for 1 remote. I said I agreed that you would install everything that is in the box. He kept hemming and hawing, so I told him to take everything down, put it back in your truck, and leave. At that point, he changed his mind and said he would give me the second remote for free. I pointed out that the second remote was part of the kit, so it was not free. I will not recommend any company that tries to squeeze you for more money or rip you off.

Ronnie was quite responsive. He first reached out to me via text and when I told him I found someone already, he said to just let him know if I still needed him. Well, the other guy bailed out on me before he would even look at the job and I got back to Ronnie, who was able to come over and fix the situation fairly quickly. He was polite and professional.

Other guy from other companu came yesterday and told me needed to be replaced 3100 for ne garage door and mechanism safehouse came today figured out door had been paintef causing it to stick and was able to fix for 200 dollars and told us if we want to update 2 sensors would only charge us cost of parts

I was first contacted by a rep from Safe House (calling from a MD area code) the night I listed my request. Fine. Was given a 9am-12pm window for a visit and â freeâ estimate, which usually means that whoever shows up will do their best to negotiate a price on-the-spot to get the job locked down. (Sub)contractor calls me next morning and we arrange a visit window from 9am-12pm the FOLLOWING morning. To make a long story short, although the handyman was a â nice guyâ and â guaranteed his work for 3years,â he nevertheless showed up at the tail-end of the window (12pm), gave me a wild estimate for just replacing 4 pulleys ($5 special at home depot), 2 cables and a spring, and THEN, after he was done with the main repairs and as he was making adjustments an hr or 2 after showing up, he made 2 attempts to upsell me first on a new motor (saying my current one is â no good,â even though it was working seconds before he pulled...the wiring...which I SAW him do), quoted replacement costs of 500, 600, & 700 bucks (outrageous considering the cost of a brand new motor of $150), THEN after I refused his motor upgrade, he goes and tries to upsell me on new Magic Eye sensors, saying my current ones were no good. Get this...I saw this dude actually just TILT ONE SENSOR UP, to block its signal (I caught him doing this, so I went in after, moved the sensor back, and said, â oh you mustâ ve hit it by accidentâ ), then I saw him switch up/play with the wiring again, swapping placement of the wires for send/receive sensors on the motor... Keep in mind...NO WIRING NEEDED TO BE TOUCHED FOR THIS JOB, but there he was....messing with the wiring. Maybe he needed to do all this to troubleshoot an off-balance door, maybe not. He probably shouldâ ve just started off first by making force and travel adjustments to the motor itself. So altogether, it was REALLY HIS BUSINESS BEHAVIOR, of trying to upsell by using tricks to make like things arent working properly, coupled with his extraordinarily high price for this job that bugged me the most to the point where Iâ m now less forgiving of his less-than-professional work. The job he did, craftsmanship, etc...while itâ s fine and is â what works,â or is â good enough,â itâ s by no means 100% professional (cables were just tied in a knot around termini, rather than fastened down), and when he was done, I not only cleaned up after him (as a PRO, even if someone offers to clean up, EVERY job begins and ends with cleanup), but I also had to redo the wiring for the door control and keyless entry panel, as neither were working when he left. This was perhaps the MOST annoying thing - that the work wasnâ t technically complete - especially considering that I paid a Pro price for what was really Basic Handyman service. Like I said - the guy is a nice guy, someone you could crush a beer or two with, BUT before trying to command Pro prices, he seriously needs to step up his game in workmanship/quality, and NOT use cheap parlor tricks to upsell merchandise & service. In this game, word-of-mouth gets you further than slippery business practices (I almost felt like he used to run an auto shop lol)
