The first two operations were O.K.  However, Valencio, the contractor,
lacked experience working with Flo-Coat.  As a result he did not utilize
the proper proportion of water in mixing the product and sprinkled
water on the applied coating during the curing process,  which was not
specified  by the technical data sheet.at temperatures below 90 degrees
F.    The result was very undesirable, because the the final coating was
non-uniform in color.
Valencio agreed to come back to correct
his job when weather conditions were appropriate.  Unfortunately, I
have been unable to contact him either by phone or e-mail for over a
month and a half (since late August).  One  phone that does work
(240-5561-4100)
gives the message that no incoming calls will be
accepted.  Therefore,  the ratings of "F" have been earned because the
work is incomplete and the contractor has lacked common consideration to
stay in touch and complete the job as promised.

Both my husband and I were very pleased with CJ and his team!  We had our old asphalt driveway replaced with a concrete driveway as well replacing our old slate walkway with a stamped concrete walkway. We couldn't believe how organized they were.  They were so quick, efficient, knowledgeable and just overall a great team.  They cleaned up after themselves each day.
he gentlemen who stained my walkway was a true artist!  I with the four color option which was a bit more expensive but definitely worth it!  The stamped walkway looks like real stone!  Its amazing.  A what a savings compared to real stone.Highly recommend CJ and team!

The quality of work was not up to my expectations. The sidewalk is already cracking.

Our concrete walkway and steps were installed in June 2010. The job looked great when completed and I was pleased with Val Pires' customer service. But nine months later, there are two cracks in the walkway. One splitting the steps from the walkway and the other diagonally across the walkway from side to side. Based upon information on the company website, this could be due to excess water mixed in the concrete or structural failure. (Note that the work was done on an extremely hot day, and excess water may have been added to the mix to keep it pliable. Val even commented on his difficulty working with the concrete that day.) I attempted to contact Val, but his website and business phone number were taken over by another company (Best Patios/P & C Masonry.) The new owner, Ardolino, believes that the previous owner had to leave the country indefinitely. I sympathize greatly if Val had to leave for a family emergency; but customers have no idea why he left the country. And we are all customers are left without recourse. Also, it is misleading to use the Best Patio phone number and website, to find an entirely different business and contact.

Val arrived to give me an estimate within 2 hours of my request. He worked well with Town official and Town Inspector when we encountered unexpected building permits, etc. Job was completed as scheduled.

They show up on time. Right before they started to work we decide to have a thin layer of stone put underneath the storm door and they no problem with that request. We had talked about it earlier but we were uncertain we could replace the storm door in the smaller opening. They were willing to change out several stones for us, a courtesy which made it necessary for them to return an extra morning. Even though the owner was not present during the work we found it necessary to work through him in order to expedite these changes. They also returned after they were payed in full to put in some asphalt in order to make a even transition with our driveway at our request. There is a sunken spot in the lawn where the trailer sat but it is not a big deal.

They did a great job. They were very professional. I had a lot of rainy weather at that time. So, they had to keep postponing, which was quite understandable. I spent about $6800 on the job. I have no source of comparison for their price. I will use them again in the future.

Val was prompt and came to my house to provide an estimate. He came again to review the site of the work prior to it being done and he was quite polite. The original cost estimate was $3450.00 and when I asked about discounts for Angie's customers, he indicated that he was giving me the best price. I had gotten estimates with other contractors and his was the most expensive. The others were not that much cheaper, but, because he was prompt, professional, responsive, and the reviews were good, I went with him. Unfortunately, the quality of the work was sloppy at best. He said it would take them 2 days to finish the job and it did. I was out of town while they were working and when I returned, my yard was a mess. I was told that the concrete truck would come up the driveway, but whatever equipment was used, was also driven through my front yard. I had asked Val what I needed to do to help prepare for the work, and other than moving the outdoor lights, he said nothing. To my dismay, my azaleas, my hostas, and my herb garden were damaged during the process. If I had known that these plants would have been a problem, I would have removed them myself and covered my herb garden. The workers did re-seed the yard and put hay over the damaged areas, but they did not fill in the dirt where the vehicle was driven across my yard and they put the seeds on top of the soil where the concrete dust was. Of course, concrete damages the soil and there is no way that the grass was going to grow well in the damaged areas. When I complained to Val about this, he did send the workers back out to redo the front yard. They came back within 2 days. So, I did appreciate his responsiveness. But the bigger problem is that my stairs are not even. The base and stairs are slanted to the right, the stairs are not evenly spaced, and the craftsmanship is very poor. None of the edges or corners are straight. Its just sloppy. I just don't understand. When I brought this to Val's attention he indicated that the concrete was drying fast and that they did the best that they could. Well, anyone who is a professional at mixing and pouring concrete should know how to do this and make sure that the stairs are even. You should also know which type of concrete to use for the job and that concrete that dries too fast for such a large pour is probably not the best option. Either way, they are the experts and should know. I asked that he take some money off, so we agreed that the price should be reduced by $500.00. I could have asked that they start over, but I dont have the confidence that they would do it right the second time. I am going to have to get someone to come lay flagstone or some other stone to even out the stairs and level them. Even from the street, you can see how uneven everything is. I am quite disappointed and will never work with this contractor again. Perhaps they are good at patios, but they are not good at pouring concrete.

The owner, Val Pires, came to our house within a day or two of my call. Great first impression! Helped us develop our rehab concept and gave us a contract estimate. After several weeks of considering the work to be done, we asked Val to return and firm-up the design to include a driveway extension and a new walkway. Finalized contract on August 30 and started work on September 25. Completed all work, including tile work, on October 3. On all area of lawn that were disturbed during the process, fill dirt and top soil were added where needed and reseeded. On October 5 we received a surprise bonus of ten Chrysanthemums and two Azaleas which Val's crew planted where I requested. Val was on site virtually throughout each work day and personally did a lot of the concrete finishing. His work crew was very industrious. They were clearly very experienced and knew exactly what had to be done at each step in the process.

Outstanding! Valencio Pires (President of V&A) arrived as planned to give us a quote and provided us with an affordable option that met our requirements. Val scheduled the team a few days after we approved the work. The team arrived on time and did an outstanding job completing the work, leaving the entire area in much better shape. They cleaned up very well, planted seed and straw in the surrounding area and left everything looking great! While this was a small job, I wouldn't hesitate to use them for larger projects. They were - by far - the most professional concrete company that I dealt with while getting quotes.

Working with Val and his company was a completely positive experience, from the first phone call to the completion of the job today. I needed a new walkway for the front of our house and decided to go with the exposed aggregate. I had a deadline for completion, Val indicated that his company could meet that deadline. He kept me updated on a regular basis as to which day they could do the job. Weather was somewhat of a factor in our situation. Val and his crew arrived this morning and began their work immediately. The soil that was dug up for the sidewalk was placed exactly where I wanted it in the flower beds. The crew was very courteous and cleaned up every bit of soil from the driveway, front porch, as well as any extra clods left on the lawn. The men then leveled out all the extra soil in the flower beds and placed extra soil on the outside edges of the sidewalk for a bed of plantings. They then put the yellow tape up at the entrances to the sidewalk to remind us not to walk on it for now. The sidewalk is stunning!!

The job was done in an excellent, professional manner. Before starting, we discussed with the company owner options about finish, grading and how to conceal 4-5 trash bins at the top of the driveway. Throughout this initial discussion, Mr. Pires was patient, gave us a number of options to consider and explained in detail how his crew would carry out the project and clean up afterwards. On the day of the installation, Mr. Pires and his the crew arrived on time and carried out the installation in a smooth and unruffled manner. They spent a lot of time on preparation of the new base for the concrete and on carefully spreading and grading the poured concrete. I was particularly impressed with the fact that Mr. Pires was present for much of the duration of the project, with the focus on cleaning up after the job and the attention to detail, such as on the replanting of the grass on the side of the new driveway. My wife and I, as well as our neighbors, were impressed with how the new driveway looked and we would be happy to recommend Mr. Pires's firm to others. We certainly plan to use him for any future projects.

V & A provided a prompt estimate and provided helpful suggestions on installing a concealed location for garbage bins at the top of the driveway. On the day of the project, the crew arrived on time, worked very professionally on the project, and cleaned up very thoroughly. Val Pires, the company's owner was at the work site for much of the time.

Mr. Val Pires and crew did a wonderful job. He was one of the few contractors who immediately understood the grading problem and offered solutions. He was very honest and upfront and provided quality service. He and his crew were very punctual and knew what they were doing. Even more impressive is that Mr. Pires was present on site and worked along side his men to make sure everything was done to his satisfaction. He offered suggestions on how to improve the look of the flagstone walkway which turned out to be much better. Upon completion, the men cleaned up the yard and replaced everything to its original location, and planted grass, so that no additional clean up was necessary.
