Jill Kahn grew up in a family-owned fabric design business started by her grandfather more than 50 years ago--a still-thriving enterprise now run by her dad and brother. After many years in the interior design field as a shop at home decorator for Hecht's, Macy's and Bloomingdales, Jill decided to follow her calling by continuing the family tradition, and Jill Designs was born. Jill Designs serves Baltimore, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's Counties, Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Viriginia. Your home should reflect your personal style. Your window dressing could be the crowning glory of your décor. Do you know the look you want but are uncertain how to make it happen? As a good designer, I believe it's important not to impose my ideas about what I think you need. We were having most of our house interior painted and carpeted. We had some idea of color schemes, but felt we could use an outside opinion. Jill was available on a per-hour basis within a day or two. She came to our house, bringing her color cards. She listened to our tastes and our ideas, then made polite suggestions. We then bought some paint samples and met with her again. This crystalized our thoughts, generally along the bolder themes she had suggested. Our contractor has nearly finished the work, and the colors and themes look great.

It was an unbelievably smooth process. From my initial phone call to Jill to the completion of the installation, all went according to the schedule Jill had created. The window treatments were installed after the painting was completed. The installation was perfect.

She seemed like a nice company to work with if you had more money to work with, but she was too expensive. She came out twice. She charges hourly and I wasn't able to afford her services. She was energetic and friendly. She was eager to have a business relationship. Her price was good and reasonable if you have the money. She gave me some good ideas.

She was fine. She is just like a consultant. She did not do the installation of the blinds. She did not do the upholstery either as she referred us to somebody else for that work. I went with her because she was a good consultant with colors and design. She brought all of her supplies with her. She did not do the work but she did the recommendations.

Jill responded immediately to my initial request for information and we set up an in-home consultation. She was extremely friendly, listened to what I wanted and was very patient as we went through fabrics and designs. She was easy to work with and struck a balance between what I had in mind and her professional opinion. The final product was amazing--exceeded my expectations. I was shocked at how much they transformed the rooms, everything feels finished now. The material and craftsmanship are gorgeous, so I couldn't be more happy!

Jill is a talented professional and a joy to work with. The job consisted of a full redesign of a family room and consultations on kitchen counters and lights for the family room, kitchen, and dining room. She worked within my budget (about $25,000 for everything) and gave me a lot of value for my money. In addition to designing the room, she recommended excellent contractors to do the actual work. Jill is very knowledgeable about materials and other construction related aspects of a renovation/remodel. It was especially helpful to be able to discuss the pros and cons of different kinds of counter tops, window treatments, floor coverings, and other materials throughout this process.

Great! Jill has a great sense of color and style and was able to give me a short list of workable wall colors, as well as helped me select terrific blinds for the renovated office, which was formerly a garage. She suggested putting in a new window and was helpful with ideas about built ins. I am very happy with the Siena Clay color we chose for the walls and the blinds are perfect. The price quoted is mostly the blinds, and her hourly rate for decorating consulting is very reasonable. Jill is delightful and very responsive.

Jill immediately responded to my initial inquiry. She was very accommodating with my schedule, by setting up a weekend appointment. She made recommendations on window treatments and the best method to install the window treatment across the three windows. After the order was placed, the installer came to measure. Window treatments were ready ahead of schedule and installed on time. Jill, as well as the installer were professional and prompt. The installation was completed in less than one hour. The window treatments look great and are very easy to use. I am very satisfied with the service and window treatments.

I received a partial delivery and installation of some valances and all shades and bedspread on March 8, 2008, 4 to 6 weeks, you do the math. The bed spread was not what we ordered it cost $1000.00. I received the rest of the valances on April 3 2008. Again, you do the math on the initial 4-6 week promise. During this whole time there was little communication and when there was Jill always had an excuse; never was it her fault always someone else's. She was elusive at all times and the only time she came by was to get another check. She would bring her children with her and ask if it was OK; they watched TV while she presented me with another bill. The experience, to be kind, was bad and expensive.

I PRIDE MYSELF ON MY TIME-SENSITIVE, CREATIVE AND QUALITY WORK. DUE TO THE IMPORTANCE OF EACH OF MY CUSTOMERS AND THEIR DESIGN BUDGETS, A RE-MEASURE IS A STANDARD PROCEDURE FOR ME. BECAUSE OF THE MEMBER’S FRUSTRATION, AND AS A GESTURE OF GOODWILL, I HAD TWO BEAUTIFUL THROW PILLOWS MADE FOR HIM AT NO CHARGE. DURING CONVERSATIONS WITH THE MEMBER, HE EXPRESSED A DESIRE TO HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL WORK DONE DURING THE REDESIGN. I SUGGESTED TO HIM A WONDERFUL CARPENTER. THE MEMBER TOOK MY ADVICE AND USED HIM. THE MEMBER TOLD ME WHAT A GREAT JOB HE WAS DOING AND TO HOLD OFF DELIVERY OF THE CORNICES UNTIL THE JOB WAS DONE, WHICH I DID. THIS APPEARS NOW TO BE AN ISSUE. THE MEMBER WAS SO WARM AND WELCOMING TO MY CHILDREN, EVEN OFFERING THEM CHOCOLATES AND TO WATCH TV. I AM SO SORRY IF THIS UPSET HIM IN ANYWAY. THIS IS MY COMPANY, AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME. I WISH THE MEMBER WOULD HAVE TOLD ME ABOUT ANY DISAPPOINTMENTS HE MAY HAVE HAD."

Excellent experience. Jill and I met several times and were able to review and discuss selections. She was very open on the cost impacts of changes and alternatives to selection. After the order was submitted it arrived on time and the installer was able to install it at my schedule. I am very satisfied with the installed blinds.

Jill came to our house to get a sense of what we needed and what our price range was. She was very easy to work with and has made lots of good suggestions throughout the process. She brings fabric samples, paint colors and pictures of furniture to our meetings and always has a range of options on hand. She took us to a design store to help pick out furniture after she had narrowed down some choices for us. We're just about finished now and we love the results. We could never have done this without her. She has a great eye for color and did a good job of learning our tastes. We were also very happy with the work of all of the contractors she recommended.

Jill had great ideas for the different rooms in our home. In the end, we decided to focus on the living room and dining room for cost reasons, but we will probably follow up with other rooms as well. She helped us select a style and fabric for the Roman shade. We were very pleased with the results.

Jill was quick to set up a consultation, which I appreciated. She had lots of window treatments books for me to look through so that I was able to find the perfect window treatment for all the rooms we needed them in. She was easy to work with, full of great suggestions, and respectful of our needs and financial constraints. It was a pleasure to work with her and we're very excited about our order! Jill helped with window treatments when we moved into our house almost 4 years ago, and we still love the beautiful shutters we purchased from her at that time. I would definitely use her again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to friends.
