The only thing that went wrong was that the Whirlpool refrigerator that was delivered turned out to be D.O.A. It lit up, but never got the least big cold. I blame Whirlpool for this, not Ferguson. Anyway, Terry arranged for quick replacement of the refrigerator, and all was well in time for the open house. Ferguson handled everything efficiently and professionally. No regrets. And if you want a fancy oval-shaped bathtub...
At some point at the early stages of our interaction we had questions. We sent emails and left phone messages. The phone messages were not returned for more than a week in some cases. The email was not returned for a month. The issues we wanted information about were cost/quality trade-offs. Also when an issue of credits for returns arose, again there was almost no communication (see below).
At our second or third appointment we were asked to pay for everything up front -- about $3,400. The items didn't show up until late May, many weeks later, and not all items were there.
There was a big problem with the contractor's design for the bar sink area. The cabinets proposed by Ferguson would not fit our needs. By the time we had found the correct cabinets, other items had been ordered (and paid for) that would not fit with the revised design. This is where the "returns" issue arose.
Without knowing what countertop we would use in the bar area, our rep had convinced us order a sink, a faucet, and a cabinet. When we subsequently found a cabinet that would work in the space, we had to decide on a countertop. The Ferguson's suggestions were ridiculously expensive. We went to the place that puts the sink into the countertop for Ferguson's and learned that we could save a lot of money ($500) by using one of their remnants. But the already delivered sink would not work with this material. We were told to return it. On the day I returned it I also bought the replacement sink.
But Ferguson's would not simply credit me for the one sink against the new sink. My credit card was hit for the new sink. The returned sink credit did not materialize until one month (literally) later. (Later we discovered that they impose a "25% restocking fee." which they did not charge us in the end, we think because they are trying to keep our contractor's business.]
Then there was the shower door fiasco. We placed our order on April 22. In late May the materials from Ferguson were delivered to our house. A shower door was not among the items. Our contractor assured us he knew where it was. In fact, he didn't. Our rep never told us its status and as late as July our contractor's number 2 man went to Ferguson's to get the door, and that is when he learned that Kohler had a problem with the glass for the door and it was "back-ordered." Since our project was complete except for this door, we had to go find another. The rep should have known about the problem and informed us much sooner.
Finally, there was the faucet in the kitchenette area. Again the faucet that the rep insisted we order was the wrong size for the sink.
Which leads to our conclusion. Ferguson's is an order taking operation, not a "kitchen/bath design" operation. Their business procedures are not customer friendly, and we would urge others to think carefully before using them.
They have good selection of accessories. You have to take an appointment to get the kind of customer service you need; you won’t get it without an appointment. I would use them in the future.
