Wow-- I wish I had seen the other reviews on this site before hiring Dan Kugler. I can relate to a lot of these bad experiences, so I guess I shouldn't take my experience so personally. I do not recommend unless you have the most simple of projects. Our space is a little more complicated, so we wanted to hire an expert to take care of everything-- measurement, recommendations on what would work for the space, installation. Here we are, one year later, and we still do not have functional blinds that we paid well into 5 figures for. When they say that "Val" (who turns out to be the Mrs. Kugler) will call, or order something, do not count on it. It seems she has also "lost" all the records related to the numerous service visits from the installers. We have given them ample opportunity, and in the end, we are having to manage this project. I am not a blinds expert, but I have to become one to make sure I get the product I purchased. Installers are great, but do not trust this company. I will (fairly) update this review as this process continues. As of today (Aug 11, 2017), we do not have blinds that work. Dan measured for our blinds in August 2016, installed October 2016, numerous visits since then from the installers/servicers (who are great and do the best they can with dysfunctional office support). Update 9/1/17-- we have new blinds that appear to work. Tough to get too excited, since we've felt this euphoria before during the past year, only to have things go wrong. So, for now, we are cautiously optimistic. From all of our many interactions, we believe that the underlying issue was the following. Dan measured the space wrong for this type of blind. Maybe it was a product he hadn't worked with before, but I'm only speculating and I don't know for sure. It's his actions of not taking responsibility for that mistake that is inexcusable. When the panels were too wide and knocking into each and the window frames around them, it was getting the panels off track. Add to that the fact that they were also too long by about 2 inches, and kept getting caught under our window frame. One of Dan's many customer service mistakes was stating that we needed to call our building right away, implying that it's the windows' fault. The windows never changed; they were they way they still are when he came to measure. Apparently, Hunter Douglas wanted Dan to pay to have the blinds re-cut, and he wasn't willing to do that. I suppose it was much easier to have the customer (who paid five figures for the blinds) live with defective blinds that were crooked and didn't always work. In the end, we had the service guys call the office on speaker phone while they were still standing in front of the situation and work it out within earshot of us. They somehow managed to have Hunter Douglas cut the blinds more narrow. The "fix" for the extra length was to have them programmed to stop short. It was a compromise that my husband and I made, keeping in mind how we would most likely use the blinds. We won't have full functionality of the blinds we paid for, but we have something that works (touching wood). Bottom line-- if you aren't in a hurry for functional blinds (ours took one year to this point), you have a flexible work schedule that allows you to be home numerous times at times convenient to Dan Kugler's office, have the project management skills to take over when the office isn't doing their job and not being in communication, then this is the company for you. One more mention for the installers who are the poor, poor, hard-working customer-facing guys (to extremely frustrated customers) who eventually figured out the solution. They were fantastic to work with, and it would have been much easier just to work directly with them this whole time if they had the authority to make the changes they suggested.

It was a terrible experience. They did not live up to what they said they were going to do. They kept lying about when they were going to finish the work and they never really did come through like they said they were and so we had a terrible experience with them. They held our money for a long time without providing us what we paid for. The price was not as important as the fact they didn't come through and they kept telling us a bunch of stuff about why it was not coming through and it didn't and finally we just had to just terminate the whole thing. They did not want to show good faith by installing the equipment that they said they were going to but didn't until they were paid upfront. We felt that they were irresponsible and unprofessional and we reported him to the Montgomery County. They kept our money for a long time and then whenever we said that were is the shades they are coming. We had to get another vendor, we this or we that and its going to be here. I said look we need to just come to a head here what's the story here because it took months and then he said well they are ready and I said well then you need to install them before pay the final bill on it. He did not want to do it. He wanted to be paid for them before they were installed. We had given him a good face deposit to get them but now he wanted to be paid so we felt that was just unconscionable. I guess he felt because we were so annoyed by the fact he took so long. He may have felt that he was not going to get paid or something like that. I do not know what his motto was. I even had him come over here and I said Dan look you have failed so far to do deliver. There is no purpose in me paying you right now from the merchandise that I haven't seen. I will pay you on delivery installation and acceptance when you come and install the merchandise now and wouldn't do it. I said okay well then you need to give me my deposit back and we need to go find somebody else to do it and that is what happened and it took a while to get that back so there is nothing positive about Dan that I can think of.

I had such a terrible experience with them.  We've had excellent experience a couple of times with them and that's why we continued to do business with them.   The last experience was the worst one which they lied to us about when they were going to produce the blinds.  Then they finally said that the blinds were being produced and then they told us they weren't because it was the wrong color wood.  This dragged on for months and they were holding our money.  He kept lying to us about when we were going to get them and then he wanted us to pay more money upfront before he delivered them which I was against.  Then the whole thing well apart and we parted company.  I still didn't get the shades and we just didn't feel like we wanted to do business with them any longer.  It was a very unsettling experience.  I would tell people not to ever do business with them.  I thought their price was okay but they just couldn't deliver.  I will never use them again and I even reported them to the Montgomery consumer protection people.  It was absurd because not only did I get a lie from Dan Kugler himself but his wife was lying and every time I called to her I got a another story about why it wasn't happening or when it's going to happen.  They just didn't stay truthful to the customers.  It's unfortunate and I don't have any first hand experience or knowledge other than what I've heard which is here saying I can't go by that of some negative comments what other people have made about them but I know mine has been totally negative on this last go around.  I could never do business with them again.

Then we go to our suppliers and they give us an estimated shipping date. We go by that to schedule. We had some issues with miscommunications and orders not coming complete which would then become a process as well. We return the items- go through several departments and then hope our merchandise will come as ordered so that our customers can be satisfied. Unfortunately since there are many steps this can be time consuming. We would love to show you how we have implemented new systems so that there is more quality control and there are less miscommunications.We are very sorry but would like to show you that we are about customer service and we will be accountable for our actions."

Dan was recommended as a supplier for my new home. He met me at the location, brought all the samples with him, asked me about my personal tastes, then helped guide me into the right selection for me and my home. I ordered shutters throughout the house and they look fantastic. The shutters are wonderful -- I get compliments on them every day. And, the prices were reasonable too -- for shutters you can't really beat the price I got for high quality, lifetime warrantied shutters. The installers did a good job. They were on time and were for the most part professional. The only thing I didn't like was that they came by the night before the job to try to drop off the shutters and basically told me they needed the garage. Hello....I JUST moved in. My garage was a mess and filled with boxes. I had to spend time clearing stuff out of the way and had to move a car so they could stage in the garage. Not a huge deal, but when you've just moved in...it would have been nice if they told me in advance.  Other than that, they were punctual, polite, careful, thorough, and they cleaned up after themselves (and even broke down a bunch of my moving boxes for me).  After the job was done, it just looked like perfection.  I'm happy with the results and I will recommend them to friends.

Dan Kugler and his wife Valerie are the worst!  I ordered 8 shutters from them.  The first 5 were fine but last 3 were took forever!  Several months went by and every time I called for a status, I was told that Valerie was sick or her kid was sick or some other excuse as to why she could not pick up the phone.  Her husband never called me back either.  Finally, after months of waiting, Valerie called to tell me that they had a problem with the manufacturing of the shutters (which I found out she had know for 2 months by then).  The manufacturer got involved and I was assigned someone to take care of the problem. After 3 tries, the manufacturers rep finally got it right 10 MONTHS LATER! Of course, after that, Valerie called me but only to ask for the money I still owed.  Their customer service is awful and I will never use them again or recommend them.  I am just glad that I had someone else do the rest of the house.

Dan's consultation was perfect, he kept me from making some silly mistakes in my selections. He was very patient and willing to work with my budget. They called to schedule the installation right when they said they would, and the installers were friendly, fast, and professional. Dan even called me that night to confirm that I was happy with the job. I'm extremely happy with the job they did!

I have written before. The proposal was provided in Oct. 2008. He stated the product was mfg. in CA. It was mfg. in China. Lead was to be 6 weeks. Product showed up after christmas. Product was the wrong color. Had an independant consultant come in to analyze and agreed that Dan Kugler was in error. Asked him to rectify the problem. He stated it was his fault. Suddenly, the return calls ended. No-one came to our home. The shutters are still sitting in our garage and I just won the claim against him!

WE ORDERED IN JUNE 2004 AND ALTHOUGH WE WERE PLEASED WITH ALMOST 90%, OVER ONE YEAR LATER THE PRODUCT WE ORDERED FOR OUR KITCHEN DID NOT WORK OUT - IT WAS RE-ORDERED TWICE AND CAME BACK WITH THE WRONG COLOR.
