We prefer to shop at small businesses rather than a big box store whenever possible. So we went to Dan's Fan City in Rockville. The store manager, Jon, was helpful at first. We explained that we needed a true white ceiling fan to go in our newly renovated kitchen where the ceiling and trim had been painted white. We went with the Quantum II because it had a more modern look but mostly because the box was labeled "Pure White." It wasn't cheap at $299. Our electrician came the next day to install it. We left to run an errand and when we got home we looked up and were shocked to see that it was as far from 'pure white' as it could be. At best, it was almond colored. We had to pay the electrician to uninstall it and then took it back to Dan's Fan City and explained what had taken place, only to be turned away and told by Jon that he would not give us a refund because it had been installed. If ALL you sell are ceiling fans, you should know which are a true white and which are not. He blamed us for not opening the box before we left the store. Really?! How dare you tell us that you back your products and provide customer service better than box stores do and then refuse to refund our money???? Home Depot or Lowe's wouldn't have hesitated to do the right thing.

I was looking for a ceiling fan for my dining room.  My decorator recommended Dan?s Fan City in Rockville and I found they had a good selection.  After making my purchase which included the fan, flush mount, globe and light kit (all sold separately), I had my electrician install it.  I knew immediately I had made a bad choice and had him remove it.  The electrician was very meticulous in repackaging all the items.  When I went to the store to return it, or exchange it, I was told that since it had been installed it was considered a ?used? fan and Louie (the store owner) refused to refund my purchase even though it stated right on the receipt that all returns must be accompanied by the receipt.  Louie was completely unsympathetic and offered me no options.  I was not told nor were there any signs in the store indicating that all sales were final.  Their website even claims a ?no hassle return policy?.
I contacted the main company and was informed that the Rockville store was an independent franchise and thus could set their own policy.  The woman I spoke to attempted to intervene on my behalf and was unsuccessful.  However, she was able to make arrangements for me to return the light fixture, globe and flush mount so long as all the parts were there.  I went to the store when Louie was not there so I would not have to deal with him and found that the other individual was very pleasant, helpful, and cooperative.  He examined the contents and found that there were a few small parts missing so I returned with the fan box where he found the missing pieces.
The woman at the main company offered an unusual option.  She suggested that I send the fan to her and that she had a source who would sell it but at a reduced price.  This is what I did.  The fan sold right away and I received a check for the amount he was able to sell it for.  The main company did not retain any of the money for their efforts.
Will I ever to return to Dan?s Fan City ? no.  While they have a good selection, be sure that what you purchase is appropriate for your situation and do not have it installed until you are certain.  The fan I purchased was much too large for the room and the globe was too small and did not cover the light bulbs.

Overall it went very well. Ask for Jon Reeve to help with your selection. I would recommend that you allow an hour or so to make all of your decisons -- there are that many options to choose from!Dan's store is stacked high with the components in boxes. I recommend you open your boxes before you leave the store.When we got home we discovered that of two "identical" light kits, one took standard base bulbs and the other candelabra base bulbs.Also for the third (stand alone light) the initial light assembly did not fit the bowl correctly. However dans also stocks a variety of parts so they were able to rectify this.Also with such a large variety of choices, they do not always have everything in stock -- we had to wait a couple of weeks for the color of decorative trim on the lamps that we wanted.

Great. We were greeted with a smile and actually the fact that someone talked to us at a store was a nice change. The store employee helped us choose the right fans for us, including the size of the blades and the finish for the base. He carried all the parts to our car and left us with a business card just in case we needed help installing the fans, which we didn't.

After seeing a ton of fans and getting a neck ache from looking at the models we were completely confused as to how to find a simple fan with options such as style and look for my wife and remote control and dimmer for me. Dan's Fans took us by the hand, asked us questions on how we were going to use the fan and why we wanted certain aspects. In a matter of minutes we had a complete custom fan for the same price as the big box stores.

THEY WERE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE CASABLANCA FANS AND ALL THERE MODELS. THEY REPAIRED THE FAN AND DID THE JOB VERY QUICKLY. THEY WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE.
