College Hunks Hauling Junk & College Hunks Moving

WOW. This was the most stressful move I've experienced. There is NO way to contact customer service prior to move. An offshore call center simply repeatedly says they will pass on your messages. (We did not get confirmation of pack out date until one day prior -- were freaking out that entire move would just fall through. .) Day before move, we were quoted double the original quote. Kids who showed up were super nice, but told us they'd just found out about the job an hour prior. Boys were young- one just out of high school. They did their best and were working hard, but it took longer than anticipated, so at one point we just called it quits (because $$ was adding up) and ended up still having to move a bunch of stuff ourselves. A lamp was broken and two black oil stains were left on the white carpeting in new apt. Ended up paying close to original quote (bc I think rep knew I'd lose my mind on them ) The local rep was THE nicest guy, but he just kept talking about how "someone really dropped the ball on this one." Yup, sure did.

I had the worst move of my life thanks to college hunks. I was moving out of an apt/storage unit into a house. They came to my apt to do the estimate and estimated about 4-5 hours. I asked if they needed to see the storage unit and they said no. The day of the move they were over an hour late due to my "team getting switched" They had 3 guys at the storage unit and took 3 hours to move out of a 10x10 unit, which was loaded in 1.5 hr with 2 guys. Once we got to the apt they started loading and realized the truck they brought was too small and would have to make 2 trips. Now it's 8pm. We both left to go to the house around the same time and I waited an HOUR for them to arrive. They were loading stuff into my house in the dark. We got back to my apt at 1130 and then couldn't finish because it was quiet hours. My bed was still at my apt but none of my things, so then I had to drive BACK to the house again to get my stuff and stay at the apt instead. We had to finish the move the following day where I only had pieces of furniture, and it still took 4-5 hours. They initially tried to charge me FOR BOTH DAYS when they estimated wrong, brought the wrong sized truck, and took hours longer than it should have. They also sprung on me their additional coverage plan which is another $250 dollars which was not explained or given to me in the original quote. The standard coverage is 60 cents per pound which is nothing. I will NEVER use college hunks again and have told every person I know to not use this company. Terrible customer service, not efficient, poor communication.

This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with a company. I have worked in the service industry for over a decade and I have never personally interacted with a company with WORSE business practices than this College Hunks franchise. Not only did they destroy over $2k of my furniture & belongings (unrepairable & needed completely replaced) they also damaged every other piece of furniture we own and other belongings, showed up over 2 hours late (& tried to charge me for that time), took almost 3x the estimated length to move & charged me for it, deliberately dragged on the time by taking personal phone calls & breaks throughout (on my dime, not the company's), deliberately moved slowly throughout the move process, and the movers complained to me about how the company sent them without "sufficient supplies" including tape, furniture covering, dollies, etc. The company refused to effectively communicate with me during the move. I received one return phone call (AFTER contacting corporate, the franchise would not answer or return any phone calls) during the move and was dismissed & told they would "handle it" when I asked for support from management with the poor quality of the movers. Absolutely nothing changed after this conversation. They also accused me of lying about the movers 2 hour late arrival time until I told them I had text & phone call evidence. I was told at the end of the move (late in the evening because the movers took 3x longer than estimated by the company), while in a loading dock alone with two men (I am a small female) that I had to sign the receipts for the move or else they would not leave the property. After expressing concerns about the charges, they were persistent that they would not leave my home until I signed the documents. I have received two email responses (again only AFTER contacting & filing a complaint with corporate because the franchise would not return any phone call or email communication). They were dismissive of any complaints beyond the damaged furniture (which they only reimbursed $.60 on the $1 per state law despite destroying my furniture so that it was unrepairable & unusable). They did not acknowledge or address any of my complaints about the poor quality of service and the deliberate effort of the movers to extend the hours I was being charge for by taking personal phone calls, taking frequent breaks (on my dime), and displaying minimal effort (I ended up stepping in & moving things myself because they were moving so slowly). The movers also refused to disassemble or wrap any of the furniture for the move (despite this explicitly being a guaranteed service provided during the move). I have spent over two months trying to communicate with this franchise to find a resolution before posting this review but they have refused to communicate with me since. I would do everything possible to avoid using this moving service. The Better Business Bureau has received many complaints about this franchise but they are not BBB accredited so there is nothing that BBB can do to assist. If you look at all of the negative reviews on this franchise they are exactly the same - makes me very skeptical about the positive reviews that made me choose this company for our move. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS THEY DELIBERATLY SCAM PEOPLE.

We recently moved from Bethesda to Germantown and used College HUNKS ([*** Link removed ***] - Rockville location, 240-328-6221; Patrick Lucia was our move consultant. He, along with all the others (packers, move day movers, etc.) were prompt, professional, and efficient. Easy to work with and reasonable. Parker was our lead mover!!

Overall I think they did a good job wrapping up and moving everything...except they couldn’t disassemble my bed frame (their standard tools were bulky socket wrenches and didn’t fit) and the guy they called in to help basically told me it was a weird bed and that I could go myself and buy a wrench at ace hardware...what customer service! despite paying several hundred dollars for movers, I drove back the next day with a simple 10mm wrench to take the bed frame apart and move it myself. Seriously, this moving company doesn’t have a single toolbox with some small wrenches that could have been brought over to the move site when their standard tools didn’t work. Maybe it is a “weird bed” but seriously, a 10mm wrench is too much of a specialty tool?

I would never recommend this moving company. They severely damaged my late husband's desk when attempting to reassemble it. Screws missed their mark, causing damage, screws placed where they didn't even belong, "left over" screws found in a drawer. They are refusing to pay because the desk is made of particle board. I don't care what the desk is made of - shoddy workmanship by whoever attempted to assemble it is what caused the damage. The fact that it is particle board does not absolve them of responsibility.

Booking an appointment online is simple and love the convenience that it gives you a price range. Also the option to either donate your items or simply junk it. I received a call confirmation a week prior to my scheduled appointment (4/6/19 9am-11am) and a 30 minute call prior to them arriving. Abraham & Devin did a fantastic job cleaning a shed full (plus more) of junk. Both were professional, easy to talk to and efficient. Definitely worth the money!

Punctual and professional

Do not use this franchise for your moving and hauling needs. This is a franchise location that is getting business due to the strong marketing of the brand College Hunks. As you can see by the mixed reviews you are not guaranteed consistent service of a stress-free experience. The owner of this franchise does not care about his customers experience and due to the brand gets consistent business so he doesn’t care about your positive experience. I requested service on 5/7/18 to haul bags of clothes, two bookshelves, a couch, a crib, a computer table and some boxes of miscellaneous items. When quoted on the phone from their corporate call center I was told a full truck is $580. Looking at my items (see pictures) I knew this would not be a full truck so I collected more bags of clothes. The movers upped the price from the top quoted price of $580 to $762. Being that I had to go out of town for work the next day I had to go ahead and get it done for the additional $182. Hostage tactic because the mover had a binder with a flyer with this price printed for a full truck. So they do not use the prices that is quoted when you call the corporate office to set up the appointment or get a quote. The movers arrived at 9:30 and left at 10:07 (see pic of receipt). They threw in the items in the truck all kind of way and then left. They said they were going to break down the crib and that was going to be an additional $15 for labor. Well he waived it but before you think it was out of the goodness of his heart take a look at the picture. He just broke it (see pic). Due to them throwing the items in any kind of way and not packing it neatly like corporate advertises they said the truck was full and left leaving a many of the items including one of the movers tshirts (I have no idea). They left the place a mess with items all over even though it was neatly packed when they got there (see pic). I took a picture of the so called packed truck and you can see that it wasn’t full. Even if it was the stuff they left behind could have fit. Also when I called corporate to complain they said that they generally charge a ‘cap’ fee of $100 to fill up the top. Again this franchise branch is a joke and they do not care about providing a stress free experience. When I asked the movers about the other getting the other stuff done he was like let me call my manager so he had to leave the room to do so. They left and called back an hour later to say they gonna charge another full truck fee or something like that. They were there from 9:30 – 10:07am! They made $762 in 37 minutes to haul some bookshelves and bags and leave the place a wreck. The manager never answered his phone, voicemail was full, corporate couldn’t get a hold of him. Corporate ended up rescheduling another truck to come out the next day (yup, I still had to travel for work but was totally inconvenienced cuz I needed the stuff moved) for an additional $400. The manager reached out to me the next day, but because he cares so much (and yes, now I am speaking fluent sarcasm) sent me AN EMAIL. Not a phone call to mitigate but an email defending his position and why I am not entitled to a refund or adjustment. He doesn’t give a **** and is sitting somewhere in the lap of luxury from his positive income flow due to the advertisement and branding of College Hunks. Like I advise, do not use this branch for services. They are capitalizing on the brand and are not providing consistent quality service. Use another company it is not worth the headache and it is definitely not a stress-free experience.

Larry, Dwayne, and Kwame are AWESOME. They give a whole new meaning to the word Teamwork. It made my day with the service they provided. Would definitely recommend them and use College Hunks Rockville again.

My College Hunks, Adam C and Eric L, were the BEST! The guys were on time and so easy going, friendly, and helpful. They went out of their way to work with us. We were still bringing boxes to the site as they were carrying things out of our storage unit. They even went across the street with us to our other storage unit to pick up the last 5 boxes. They did a great job, quickly and efficiently, but taking care with things. They reassured me where my things were going. They indeed made the experience "stress free" as advertised! Thanks Adam C and Eric L! You are the best! Thank you! P.S. Cost was based on the space we took up in the truck. We FILLED the truck. Plus, we had them do part of the packing into boxes for a very reasonable hourly fee.

Nelson and Carlos C. were great. They made a last minute trip and removed a mountain of packing material very quickly.
